Apparently Cingular has "sold" it's list of cell phone #'s to various companies. I had heard this a few months ago & registered my husband's phone on the "Do Not Call: website. I forgot to register mine, as it is hardly ever used-big, big BIG mistake.

Edited: In the last two days I have recieved several pre-recorded sales calls. I only answered a couple. Phone numbers that I didn't recognize , I just did not answer.I have also recieved about 20 calls from people I don't know-did not answer. I used a reverse phone directory and looked them all up. :confused3

It just cost me a small fortune to dump Cingular......I had a 2 year contract that was not even 3 months old........."They may have more bars in more places......but they sure weren't in mine!" I know all cell phone companies have some problems but I found Cingular to be the worst! Also their customer service is lousey, they are rude and very condesending. So this issue does not surprise me one bit.

I'm lucky that I've never had a problem with Cingular. I did sign up for that no call list thingy as soon as it came out. So far I haven't had any issues. Sorry for those that have. That's a bummer.

I wonder where those bars are, because they sure aren't in Minnesota either. I hate Cingular. I have 4 phones and I am too cheap to pay $800 to get out of all the contracts, so I will suffer for one more year. NEVER, EVER will I have Cingular/AT & T Wireless. We had T-Mobile for 3+ years and never had a problem. We've had nothing but problems from Cingular.

Tell me about it!!!! I had a customer service rep (I use that term loosely) "helping" me with the screw up on my bill. After explaining it to her about 10 times she still didn't get it. I told her "nevermind...I'll call back and get someone who can understand".

Well, she CALLS ME BACK ON MY HOME PHONE and proceeds to curse me out!!!!!!  :sad2: I immediately hang up but she calls me *3* more times!!! I threaten to call the police and hang up. Well, someone else from Cingular calls me back and tells me that there was a misunderstanding and they are required to call back until the problem is resolved.....yeah right! :sad2:

Needless to say...I got about 6 months of free service.

ETA: That they do have the best reception around for my area. I still have them b/c my hubby works for the railroad and it is a MUST for us to have good reception.....we also get a huge discount.

Cingular bought out my beloved Suncom here in Virginia. Cingualar's whole spiel was that they would honor our Suncom contracts (unlimited anytime minutes for $50). Well when I got my first bill of $267, I called and no one would help me. I got the second months' bill of $378 and almost had a heart attack! After many rude calls to their customer service depart., I found a WONDERFUL customer service rep named Sandy who knew what kind of plan I was supposed to have an fixed my bill.

I also keep getting calls dumped in places I always had service. They have not made me happy at all.

I love cingular! I never have dropped calls, always good reception. TMobile on the other hand I couldn't even use in my house since once you entered a building you had no signal! I had to stand in the middle of the street to use tmobile, I wouldn't use them again if you paid me to!
I had one screw up with cingular when they switched from AT&T and they cleared it up AND gave me 250 extra minutes for my trouble.

I also hate Cingular. However, it's the only carrier that reaches to my house.

In August, they gave my cell phone number that I've had for 7 years to a company. I missed getting my bill that month and called to find out where it was. They assured me that my number had never been mine, it belonged to xyz company, there was no way they would have given it to someone else without approval, etc. Ugly and rude do not begin to express how the numerous customer service reps and managers were to me. My phone stayed working because the other company was paying my bill. My number was part of 100+ numbers they had so they had no clue. After three months, I finally got it switched back to my name. I had 10,000+ rollover minutes. I have gotten back 1000 so far. I was guaranteed it would be fixed on the last bill...but no.

we have had the same phone #'s for about 8 years or so with AT &T wireless never had one telemarketing phone call on cell phone. Cingular bought out AT & T and within days of the switch the telemarketing phone calls started for both my DH and I. I am disgusted. I need a new cell phone but have to convert to Cingular to do it. I might just switch I'm not sure yet.

I'm having a problem with my former AT&T phone. I got it at the end of June last year with a 1 year contract. I got a discount through my employer. Everything was going fine. Last month after I went through security at the Atlanta airport, I noticed the time had stopped on my phone (they put my purse through the x-ray twice, I wonder if it was damaged). I reset it and it started going again but it's losing about 5 minutes a day. Plus it runs down very fast. I called Cingular about it since it should still be under warranty. They confirmed it was under warranty but they no longer have my phone in stock. They would replace it with a "state of the art" regular size phone, not a flip phone like I have. If I wanted to "upgrade" to a flip phone, it would be $35.99 plus I have to sign a 2 year contract. What? I haven't used it much since then since I haven't been traveling, I'm trying to decide what to do. I got something in the mail with the same upgrade offer, but I have to get a minimum $39.99 plan, not the $29.99 (less than that with the discount) I have. I was looking at the plans on their website and they no longer list the $29.99 plan. I don't use it much, mostly when traveling, 200 minutes per month is enough for me, I don't need more minutes to buy the $39.99 plan. I was at Walmart today, they had a battery for $22. I figured I would buy it to see if that's the problem. I charged it up tonight, we'll see what happens. Since my contract expires at the end of the month, I think I might look around. I must have a "I need a new cellphone" look, I was stopped at 2 different counters in the mall today trying to sell me one! T-Mobile has a $29.99 plan but I've heard people had problems with them.

I got so fed up with the mainstream of cel phone companies, that I decided to quit my AT&T and then AT&T/Cingular company (contract was almost over and I "got" myself out of continuing any contract timeframe).............and got a trac phone. I am not big needing many minutes so I needed to liberate myself of "them". I would like to be brave and liberate myself of tv service too....but that may not come.
They make me sick.

 We were with SunCom...they were bought out by AT&T...then they were bought out by Cingular. Cingular was honoring our contract with AT&T....then I lost my phone and we had to get new phones and sign a Cingular contract to start over. We were supposed to have the family plan with free mobile to mobile minutes...got my first bill and we were charged for our minutes. Got that figured out. Then, I've been getting charged roaming minutes because we've been roaming off of a tower in TEXAS! I'm in Louisiana...in the capital of Louisiana so it's not like it's small, middle of nowhere town! We're not even that close to Texas. I don't worry about it because we have no roaming with our plan, but still.

Thanks for the warning. I think I registered my cell phone number, but I need to double check. I need to register my dd's cell phone number while I'm at it.

I had Cingular for years while in FL and LOVED them! Great service, never a problem, billing was okay, never needed customer service until I moved to VA. Found out they didn't own any towers in this area (now they do!) Paid the killer price to get out of that contract. I still miss them! When I was looking for which company to go with here, I was told forget Suncom! Calls dropped like flies. Now Cingular bought them out. I'll go back to them when I'm sick of Verizon. Haven't been happy with them in the year I've had them. Another year to stick it out.

I am VERY annoyed with Cingular. After my father passed away in February, we closed his Cingular account. I've been getting automated calls from Cingular three times a week for the last three months trying to get me to reactivate the account. It makes me so angry! I've called them a dozen+ times (and DH has called just as many) and explained the situation. They give me the same old song and dance . . . we're so sorry, we'll take you off the call list . . . blah, blah, blah .... Then, the very next day the calls start again! JEEZ!

thanks for the post! All the more reason to keep the call blocking thing we have from the phone compnay!

I never got any dropped calls when I had Suncom. I live closer to Richmond but never a problem when I was driving down to the beach for work. Cingular drops calls ALL THE TIME and never beeps to let me know I'm talking to myself either

I am so glad that many others have had the same issues with Cingular, at least it makes me feel better that I spent that money to dump them. I was originally with Sprint, but when ATT and Cingular merged I thought that the service would be better.....I couldn't get any calls at work or most calls would be dropped, so I am back with Sprint even get a discount through work and have not had any calls dropped, not only that but the bills are so much clearer to read. One poster said that she had huge bills with Cingular I did too............and I hardly ever used the phone, it's more for emergencies that anything.....trying to make heads or tails of the bill was a major headache, and forget about customer service, most hardly spoke English much less understood it!
