Cindy Sheehan Arrested at Capitol

Cindy Sheehan, the mother of a fallen soldier in Iraq who reinvigorated the anti-war movement, was taken into custody by police in the House gallery Tuesday night just before President Bush's State of the Union address

I'm sure they had a good reason and probably know better than we do seeing they've been "listening in" on her personal telephone conversations lately. See, it's all about "keeping America safe" or something.

Her arrest puts a whole new spin on Georgie boy's “Let us never forget the scarifices of America’s military families” quote. He should have added "...unless you disagree with me...then, we'll drag your **** to jail". Pretty pathetic...

Seems she brought it on herself. Apparently, she tried to unfurl a banner that she had snuck in to the Gallery. Which is against the rules of Congress.

Wait...you don't think that the Prez knew that she was going to be there tonight? You think that he actually wanted her sitting in the gallery with all of the cameras focused directly on her, getting her every reaction? Please...

The details are very spare at this point. Perhaps they tried to just escort her out and she resisted? Seeing as how her goal in life seems to be to gain as much attention for herself as possible, that's seems as likely an explaination as anything.

I feel sympathy for the woman, but she has to promote her cause and operate within the law/rules. She is not above them. She should not recieve special consideration, she has to be responsible for her actions to be taken seriously.

I believe she is being detained, not arrested. She brought some kind of banner in against the rules. If Laura Bush has tried to hang a "Go Georgie" sign up, I'm sure she wuold have been detained as well. But she has more class

I think I'm going to wait til the details come out. If she was able to "sneak in" something as large as a banner, the Secret Service agents who allowed her through should be handed pink slips immediately. I can't beleive that in a time of war, that gallery viewers are not searched before entry.

This from Sgt. Kimberly Schneider of U-S Capitol Police.... Cindy Sheehan was arrested in the gallery of the house floor tonight and charged with demonstrating in the Capitol--a misdemeanor. ...Sgt. Schneider says she was wearing a T-shirt with a slogan on it and was asked to cover it up. Sheehan did not cover it up and she was arrested. ....She is being processed at Capital Police hd and is expected to be released at some point tonight. The misdemeanor charge carries one year in jail.

She won't serve a day. And she got exactly what she wanted. Much more press attention than if she had just attended as an invited guest.

Ding Ding Ding. Really, she would have gotten it either way. If she would have shown up and been respectful, that would have generated a lot of press attention just by the novelty of it. Of course, she couldn't pander to her base unless she pulled something.
