FOOD ALLERGIES/ NO MEAT

Snagged an 8am ADR ....

Dd thinks we will be returning to Be Our Guest & the plan is once at MK to surprise her!
Dd (30) will be thrilled & I know happy with the food choices & dh eats anything at all.

Are there options for meatless substitutions?
I can only eat certain foods & in addition I am rather selective!

Change your title to include 'Food Allergy', you'll get more responses.

Also, it's midday, let folks get home from work.

This is the menu as of 12/17 and it includes meatless options. I think every WDW restaurant I've been to has a variety of meatless options since it is an international destination and many visitors are vegetarians.

Breakfast
(Updated: 12/17)
Appetizers/Starter

  • Pastry Plate - Assorted Breakfast Pastries
Entree/Main Course

  • Baked Quiche - Goat Cheese, Spinach, and Mushroom Quiche with a dollop of Goat Cheese Cream served with Arugula and Roasted Bell Peppers
Beef Tenderloin and Egg - Potatoes and Cheese Frittata with Broccolini and Boursin Cheese Sauce and Chive Oil
Caramel Apple-stuffed French Toast - Decadent French Toast stuffed with sweet Cream Cheese, baked with Caramel Apples, and drizzled with a Calvados Caramel Sauce
Healthy Choice - Hard-poached Egg on a bed of Arugula, tossed with Quinoa, Avocado, Roasted Vegetables, and spritzed with Myer Lemon Oil and White Balsamic Vinegar
Shrimp and Grits - Tillamook Cheese Grits, Poached Egg, Andouille, and Lemon Butter Sauce
Traditional Breakfast - Scrambled Eggs, Sausage, Bacon, and Potatoes

Thanks for your assistance.

I was thinking about vege sausages or hard boiled eggs.

I cannot tolerate in any other form.[/QUOTE

I'm having a total non techno time-worse than usual :scared:

Are there vege sausages or hard boiled eggs available?

I can only tolerate in that form?

Then folks who can answer allergy questions will chime in.

You need to check out the menu. You can call Disney Dining and have them note your food allergy & ask about potential substitutions.
My son is allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish, fruits. I always have it noted on our reservations AND I let the host know when we are seated that he has food allergies.
At that point, they usually (almost ALWAYS) send the cook over to our table to discuss his allergies & options.

I don't know for sure, but I doubt you could get vegetarian sausage at CRT. The closest I've seen to that would be the Vegetarian Italian Sausage sandwich in Disney Springs at B.B. Wolf's Sausage Co. Although I've never specifically asked for veg sausage at any Disney restaurant, it's also never been offered to myself or any vegetarian or vegan family members when we've discussed our options with the chef. As for hard boiled eggs, again, I don't know for sure, but that might be an option considering they definitely have eggs at CRT.

Your most likely accommodation will be some combo of potatoes, oatmeal, fruit, waffles, croissants/pastries, salad, and MAYBE hard-boiled eggs. They will do everything they can to accommodate you, but will be limited by what supplies they have on hand.

Did you note your food allergies on your reservation? I believe you can check boxes for those...although I believe shellfish &/or fish (I forget) are the only meats that you can put that you are allergic to. The rest, you'll have to explain when you get there.

We've eaten at CRT twice, and I'm a vegetarian. I specifically remember that when I ate there, nothing other than the designated vegetarian items on the menu were offered to me. I don't know if there is anything currently on the menu that's a designated vegan dish.

Typically if you've noted on your reservation that someone in your party has food allergies (my D does), your server will send the chef out to discuss your options with you. I followed a vegan diet for 3 years, and in the old days you could note that on your reservation (I don't see a way to do that anymore). When my reservation was noted as vegan, the chef would come out and talk to me...some would ask me what kinds of food I liked and would offer to make special (off-menu) dishes for me, and some would just point out what items that were already on the menu/buffet would be ok for vegans. In my experience, it was completely luck-of-the-draw and would depend entirely on the chef you happened to get that day. As my screen name implies, I am very shy and have never actually asked for anything special to be made for me (in fact, I hated the fuss of the chef coming over...I don't like to draw attention to myself and found it embarrassing, which I know doesn't really make sense, but oh well!).

It's my general observation (we've been going to WDW 1-2x per year for the past 20 years) that the heyday for chefs making guests special dishes has passed, the high point for us being in about 2005-2006. It seems lately that there is more of a movement at WDW for already having items on the menu that fulfill common allergy requirements, and indeed, many restaurants even have a separate "allergy menu" where it says basically, "if you're allergic to X and Y, you can eat Z dish." The one notable exception to this that I know of is Chef TJ (who's still going strong with his love of cooking special things for vegans and allergy sufferers) and a chef at Mama Melrose last year whose name I unfortunately didn't get. Other people may have experienced different things (and maybe that's because of my reluctance to be a "squeaky wheel" and ask for something different if I don't see anything I like on the menu), but this has definitely been my experience over the last decade or so...less offering of "specially made" items and more "here's what we offer for that allergy."

If I were in your shoes, given how expensive the CRT meal is, I would call Disney Dining and ask them to connect you directly to the restaurant/kitchen (I have done this in the past...I was nervous my first year at WDW following a vegan diet and called every restaurant to make sure they had something I could eat there). Again, YMMV...some restaurants I called acted like I was rude/crazy to be calling, and others were very kind and reassuring. If you know that you specifically only want to eat veggie sausage and hard boiled eggs that day (I'm not sure if that's what you're saying or if those were just examples of things you can safely eat), if I were you I would definitely call and ask them if that can be accommodated...or if they can make something else that you can eat. That ressie is so expensive that I would be very sad for you if you paid that price and then were just given a piece of bread and a bowl of fruit.

I hope this has been helpful in some small way! I wrote it in the spirit of understanding what it's like to struggle with food allergies (my D) and trying to find food as a vegetarian/vegan. :)

Yes-indeed vege sausages & hard boiled eggs were an example rather than a strict specification
But kind of go to breakfast items for me!

Thanks very much for your delightful reply :flower::flower:

I am definitely going to contact the restaurant directly.
I know we are paying for the experience-and I really don't mind that so much; I would simply like to have a few 'proper protein items!'

I completely understand about the protein...the lack of it can definitely be a problem with many restaurants' "vegetarian" or "vegan" offerings.

If you're willing, please let us know what kind of a response you get when you call...I'm curious as to how that may or may not have changed over the years.

I just asked my H if he remembers any other chefs/restaurants we thought did a great job on our last trip. Last March was the first year our D was at Disney after having been diagnosed with food allergies (no dairy/egg/soy). Three restaurants/chefs stood out to us by offering (without us asking) to make DD a special dish were Chef TJ at Trail's End (at Fort Wilderness), a youngish male chef with brown hair and glasses at Mama Melrose (HS), and a female chef at The Wave (at CR...and this restaurant, IMHO, is a hidden gem that's well worth the monorail ride over from MK). I know you didn't ask me for other restaurant suggestions, but I just thought I'd offer since we have some of the same food challenges. :)

No problem whatsoever with extra info and/or suggestions...
Thanks very much.:daisy:

On our last trip boma was where I found the most accommodating/over and above assistance.
We tipped accordingly.:teeth:

On our 2006 trip, the chef at Boma made me this incredibly humongous and elaborate "Tower of Tofu", as my FIL called it. It was all these tofu triangles, which were all cooked and seasoned differently, along with several different kinds of hummus/baba ganoush/other dipping sauces...it was one of the most delicious things I ever ate! But on our trip there last year Boma didn't offer to bring out anything special for my D (other than pointing out what on the buffet was safe to eat), and we didn't ask. Again, I think it's the luck-of-the-draw with chefs perhaps. Glad they went all out for you, though! :)
