Cigs on the Internet/Cook County Taxes

You'll have a bugger of a time finding an online merchant who's trustworthy and you could wind up in some serious trouble with the law anyway. My FIL used to buy them online and wound up paying a hefty fine for it. You are way better off to go the places other people have recommended.

I have to agree with the posters who said you didn't ask for sympathy or advice so others should really stick to answering the question at hand. I just quit (yet again) 4 days ago. I think this makes my 5th attempt in 2 years. It sucks and I totally understand why you aren't ready or interested in quitting right now. I'm getting misty just thinking about a Marlboro Ultra Light 100! Spark one up for me! :smokin:

My DD (33) just quit - again - today (she's wearing the patch).. She quit about a month or so ago and lasted a week or a bit longer until she received a promotion that also entailed an enormous amount of stress.. She doesn't have to go back to work till Monday now, so she thought this would be a good time to give it another shot..

And she did NOT do this because anyone nagged her into it - tried to scare her into it - or tried to insult her into it.. It was a choice she made at a time that was appropriate for her.. If anyone had tried any of that stuff on her I would bet the family farm she would be out in the garage having a cigarette right now!

Good luck to you, Shugardrawers.. If it doesn't work this time, there's always the next time.. ;)

Oh - and the best way to insure that someone will not even attempt to quit smoking is by making snide remarks; giving them "up-to-the-minute just-breaking-news" about the hazards of smoking (like they've never heard any of that before; and announcing you "have no sympathy" when "sympathy" wasn't asked for.. If you truly want to be helpful, when someone decides it's time for them to quit smoking, give them some encouraging words instead of criticism..

Very Well Said!!!!!

Unfortunately I can't help you either. I am a smoker and used to get them off the internet until the places I was ordeing from were no longer allowed to ship to NY b/c of all the laws they passed. If we get caught we get fined. I think it's ridiculous that I am not allowed to order cigs off the internet but I can buy anything else I want.

I do have to agree with this!

I tried to quit many times before I was successful. I think I just hit the wall and I said to myself "this time...I want to quit. And I did. Slowly cut myself down to 3 smokes a day...then 2...then...blech, didn't even want the one. Not everyone can do that though.

C. Ann just wanted to wish the very best of luck and pixiedust: to your DD. It's HARD and it really sucks. I'm using Zyban and the patch and so far still want one but have been able to overcome that.

I don't know what magic thing convinces us to quit but you're right, it's NOT nagging and complaining. I just decided one day that I wasn't enjoying it anymore. It took several weeks after that to say ok, that was my last one. My sense of smell is coming back. I walked in the house today after being gone several hours and got hit with a strong smell of tobacco :crazy2: That won't go away as Dh is still smoking though I've noticed he's smoking WAY less and taking Petey out several times a night to smoke outside. I hope this is my final attempt.

Sorry to hijack your thread OP. If/when you decide it's time you'll quit of your own accord. Until then you'll certainly get no flack from me.

Did I mention somewhere in my post that I was pregnant? Cuz if I am, its news to me. Both times I was pregnant, I quit the second the EPT confirmed it and I don't smoke around the DKs.

Funny - I don't find it to be an ENORMOUS trouble to keep track of my 5 smokes a days - my mind is much more evolved than that. By the tone of your post it sounds like you need a cigarette.....

maccraven - thanks for answering my question - I'm probably closer to DuPage, I'll just do that
I didn't imply that you were pregnant. I wrote about my experience with cutting back smoking, which happened when I was pregnant.

I am glad that you are easily able to keep track of your cigarettes. I too found it easy to count to five each day. I found it to be frustrating and irritating to decide when I wanted each of those five cigarettes, so I quit.

I don't need a cigarette. I quit smoking 18 years ago, and I haven't smoked since. What I HAVE done is watch my mother die of lung cancer, because she didn't quit smoking. She didn't smoke around her children, either, but that didn't protect her from the disease. It was listed on her death certificate as the cause of her lung cancer.

It seems as though you have had your question answered, so I'll leave it at that.

A co-worker ordered his cigarettes all last year through the internet (he lives in Chicago) in January he received a tax bill that he has to claim on his Illinois State Tax. They actually have a form in the tax book, they also have one for any online purchases made that were not taxed. I guess he ended up paying taxes after all.

He said he isn't going to order anymore because I guess the bill was quite high.

Hope that helps :)
