Cigars on the Fantasy?

Does anyone know what cigars are on the Fantasy, where to get them and if they are any good (old, dried out, etc...). Also are you allowed to smoke on your verandah? My DH just got into cigars and was wondering for our upcoming trip. Also I assume that you are allowed to take a lighter on board.

Can't help you with what's available onboard, but there is no smoking in staterooms or on stateroom verandahs. There are designated smoking locations on each ship.

As per the DCL website:

Where can I smoke on board?
A:
Disney Cruise Line has never allowed smoking in Guest staterooms. In addition, smoking is prohibited in all interior spaces throughout our ships and beginning November 15, 2013, smoking will be prohibited on stateroom verandahs. In an effort to provide a cruise experience that satisfies both our non-smoking and smoking Guests, smoking (including the use of electronic cigarettes) is only permitted in designated areas of the ship.

On the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder, smoking is permitted on:

  • Outdoors on Deck 4 starboard side from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. only
  • The starboard side of decks 9 and 10 in the Quiet Cove area
On the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy, smoking is permitted on:
  • Deck 4 port side, aft, the outside Promenade Deck from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
  • Deck 12 port side, aft, the outdoor area that is accessible through the Meridian Lounge
  • Deck 13 port side, forward, by Currents Bar
Guests who are found smoking in their staterooms or on their verandahs will be charged a $250 stateroom recovery fee. This fee covers deep cleaning that includes air filter replacement, carpet extraction and the cleaning and replacement of drapes, comforters, blankets and pillows, along with verandah cleaning and maintenance.

We have carefully considered which areas of our ships to designate as smoking and non-smoking, and we do periodically review our policies to ensure continued Guest satisfaction.

Enjoy your cruise!

Oh, ok. I have read about others being bothered by the neighbors smoke out on the veranda so I though you could smoke out there. Thanks so much. I hate the smell of cigarette smoke (but dont' mind cigars) and we want to make sure to go by the rules.

It used to be allowed...maybe a year or so ago, DCL banned smoking on verandahs.

I tend to bring my own cigars, but you can get them in the same shop that has duty free liquor and sundries. They are kept in a humidified wall display. Old doesn't matter, because often older is better anyway. I prefer to smoke on the Meridian aft deck. It's usually less crowded, there are cigar-specific ashtrays, it has couches and tables and there is shade. Deck 4's smoking area is basically a standing-room-only hallway with wall ashtrays, and Deck 13 is packed with cigarette smokers as well as being out in the direct sun and wind.

Yes, you can bring a lighter on board. I need to pick up another cigar lighter. I'm primarily a pipe smoker, so my lighters don't tend to have the horsepower necessary to light a cigar with a breeze blowing.

When is your Fantasy trip? I'm looking for fellow cigar smokers and whiskey/whisky drinkers to hang with on our trip. Smoking a cigar by yourself can be boring unless you have a good book and a full flask.

Tell him to go outside the Meridian Lounge.

He will love it out there!

The Meridian Lounge sounds perfect! Thanks for the tip. He will probably bring a couple with him but was wondering what was on the ship. We are going the first of May. I figure I will sit out there with him and just enjoy the view (if our DS will want to go to the Vibe). My DH is used to smoking by himself though. If it isn't at least near 70 outside he is on his own. LOL!

Have a great time. We leave for Port Canaveral in 16 days.

The Lounge also has Cigars for sale. Don't remember the choices, but it is the popular brands(6-10). Tell him they cost $12-25 per stick which is double the price for most smokes shops here and triple online prices.

Bring his own!

Lounge is back of ship, covered, low wind, bartenders right on hand and you can bring your own booze!

Another reason to love Disney :)

The wife and I spend every night on the Meridian deck back in September and often I would find some time during the day to make a trip back there. It was a great place to get some quiet and catch up on some reading while enjoying a cigar late morning. As the cruise went on, more and more people found the deck at night, which could make it hard to find a seat towards the end. I had Bic lighters (since you can carry them on a plane) witch worked most nights, a few times I had to crouch behind the little service area to get my cigar lit. The service was great and server knew our names and drinks pretty quickly. However, they no longer have the cigar-specific ashtrays anymore. When I asked why, they told me that they were not being used appropriately (or they were stolen).

I don't know what types of cigars they had or the price range since I brought enough to last me the cruise from home.

My DH uses a 4 flame torch lighter. I wonder if they are allowed to be brought on the ship. I though it was a nice touch for them to put the cigar ashtrays out. Oh well, no big deal I guess. I told him to go ahead and plan on taking a few. I doubt he smokes more than 3 or 4 the entire trip so that shouldn't be a problem. Are the people that are back there in the afternoon also smoking or will the cigar smoke bother them?

The Dream had the cigar-specific ashtrays in November. I wonder if the Fantasy had had some stolen/broken/disappeared and were waiting for the next batch to come in...

If they're in the smoking area then they can just deal with it. That's the nature of a smoking area.

There's no restriction on the lighters. I've never seen an issue, and I've used multi-jet lighters before on the Fantasy and Dream.

Great! Thanks again for the info. I will pass it along to my DH. Funny how excited some can get about their new cigars. Haha I figure he could have worse hobbies. :)

You should have seen me when I got back into my pipe smoking after several years. I now have about 100 lbs. of tobacco and over 100 pipes. We won't even talk about the craft beer, whiskey, rum, mead and other bottles in several locations of both houses...

They told us they had no plans to bring back the cigar ashtrays. It would have been nice to have. It's not easy, fun or all that clean trying to put out a 54+ ring in one of those generic, blue, anti-wind cigarette ashtrays.

As for people in the back, the Meridian deck is split into two sides, one side is smoking, the other side isn't. I don't think I ever saw anyone on the non-smoking side and most of the smoking side were cigarette smokers, just a few other cigar smokers. Rarely did I see anyone during the day there, except for those that just stopped by for a quick cigarette. Personally, I don't care if my cigar smoke bothers anyone if I am enjoying it in a cigar smoking area, but I really don't think it bothers anyone that is there.

Hrm.... I wonder if I can find a portable cigar ashtray to take with me...
