Cigars on the Fantasy?

You should have seen me when I got back into my pipe smoking after several years. I now have about 100 lbs. of tobacco and over 100 pipes. We won't even talk about the craft beer, whiskey, rum, mead and other bottles in several locations of both houses...

I wanna party with this guy!

To echo what PPs have said, Meridian is the best spot. I personally took my own sticks for the reasons mentioned when we sailed on the Fantasy in January. There were indeed cigar specific ash trays up there, and the variety of cigars onboard was pretty modest. However, I personally found that the good people of the Cayman Islands and Mexico, who have a much less hostile view of the Castro regime than we do, were more than happy to provide me with a wide variety of Cubanos. Not that you should spend American dollars on that. Because that would be wrong. I'm just saying ... it's possible. :)

Seriously, though- there are really great hand rolled cigar shops all over Central Florida, to include Sosa at Downtown Disney. You can walk up, watch the guy roll your stick and buy it on the spot. If you have time before you cruise, a side trip to Tampa would be a great idea. Tons of great cigar places there. I can specifically name a few if you're interested.

I've *never* done that. Ever. Ever ever.

Yeah with all the good high quality sticks out there I don't understand the draw for the Cubans anymore except that they are supposed to be "off limits".

I absolutely see the appeal. I think ... though I could be wrong ... that phinz was being sarcastic. I definitely was. Still waiting for DISboards to come up with a sarcasm font :)

Oh yeah I know :rotfl: I've learned a lot about cigars over the last month and boy are there a lot of them!! It also doesn't take much to drop a lot of dough for a few either :scared1:. If your ever in Hilton Head stop in Peaceful Henry's. They have a pretty good shop.

I do hope DH finds some guys like ya'll to smoke with. Thanks again for the great info!

:surfweb:

Sorry to say if your not paying $20-30 a stick on the Islands then they are not real Cubans!

Or you're at a store that *says* they have real Cubans and doesn't but charges high prices anyway. There's only one store certified authentic by the Cuban government in Sint Maarten, so anything else may or may not be real. Not that I've ever purchased any Cuban cigars from that little Cigar Emporium shop on the second floor of a building just past Wilhelminastraat on Front Street, mind you...

Good, because that would be wrong.

Bookmarking... You know. Just in case I don't happen to be in that area soon...

I know. And the rum must be terrible too. I'd never drink it. It would taste wrong.

Speaking of doing wrong and drinking rum.... What all kinds are made in the USVI? Cruzan, bacardi, ??? Just trying to learn the culture :rolleyes1

Cruzan, Bones, Sailor Jerry and Captain Morgan. Bones is only available at the Bones shop, I believe, which is in downtown Charlotte Amalie.

Oh good! Thanks for the info. I've never heard of Sailor Jerry or Bones but will look them up.

Updated - Looks like I will have to stop in Bones! Thanks for the tip :)
