Cigarettes,Ice & Stroller News

My boyfriend is a smoker and he does not go long periods of time without smoking. He smokes before he goes in to work at 7, he "steps out" for a cigarette around 830, takes his regular break around 1015 for a cigarette, he chain smokes on his hour lunch 12-1, "steps out" again around 2, takes his second regular break around 315, and then smokes a few on the way home at 4.
So that's at least 5 smoke breaks in a 9 hour park day for us. 5 times going in and out of security. Possibly all the way back to our resort or car if they ban them in the parks altogether. That is a huge blow for smokers. It will be very inconvenient for our family, and I guarantee for many others. Especially European guests.
He's very lucky. I do not know any employers that allow such breaks. We do not. Nor does my DHs

Heck, all of the schools and hospitals in our area ban smoking not only in their buildings but in the parking lots. It is VERY hard to smoke

LOL.. maybe they'll give them some photos of types of strollers that are too big
Though really, I can't think of any stroller that would be too big if the double strollers aren't. What is bigger than those? Do they make 3 across?
They do have strollers for multiples. I guess if you have triplets or more you have to each push a double stroller.

I wonder if adding the "Cinderella" coach parts to standard strollers makes them larger than the allowed size. Hopefully.

Which is why I'm thinking this new policy is being misinterpreted. I believe they mean loose in a cooler, so security cannot "easily" see or access the bottom of your cooler.

Clear as mud.
Does this mean I can't bring ice in my resort mug?
What about a hydro flask?

Really Disney????

As a non-smoker, I'm all for the no smoking ban. I've read comments about it also being no vaping, but didn't see anything about vaping in the Disney release. I hope it also is no vaping.
I really hope Disney does enforce it rather than put out a policy that they choose not to tightly enforce.

This is a fantastic, and long time coming change!

Both the smoking sections and the giant strollers are unsafe to the people around them. Those freaking Keenz wagons are a menace.

I've not seen them at WDW, only at our local fairs, but I agree. Out of curiosity, I went to the Keenz website and there's an instagram post with two girls looking at the castle. Wondering if that will come down now.

The parents should stick a patch on for the day. I used to do it - I never smoked in my house or in front of my kids. I know it's not the same, but it'll take the edge off for the several hours in the park.

That's what I'd do. Admittedly, I don't smoke. My dad was a three-pack-a-day smoker and died of cancer at 57, so I'm not a fan, to put it mildly. But I've had day long meetings with smokers, who just lined up the Nicorette on the conference table or wore a patch for the day.

Only thing I could see with some(not all) vapors is using a pod device and trying to hide it. Happens in nearly every theme park I have been to. It makes me cringe because I actually do the right thing and go to the designated areas but you know it's going to happen.

They will. My high-schooler says kids do it in class, they just lean over and pretend to get something out of a backpack.

We're mostly past the stroller stage, although our youngest has a heart defect, so I'm on the fence about bringing one for our next trip. Even when we had two in strollers, we just brought two singles because those big ones are a pain. I can't imagine dragging one of those wagons around for a day.

Maybe Disney will put a pharmacy in and start selling nicotine gum/patches. (I'm kidding....sort of)

There's never been vaping allowed, they banned it shortly after vaping was created

Rules that apply to smoking cigarettes apply to vaping

That wasn't my point. My point was directed at the comments to bad parenting by bringing their kids into the smoking areas.
I wasn't trying to claim that no one else should be able to smell it. At least outside there's fresh air and that being in a car with it was way worse.

But it's not true. Just because you're outdoors doesn't mean the smoke doesn't affect the children. If they are in the immediate area it affects them. If the wind carries the smoke toward them it affects them. Sure it doesn't affect them as much as being in a car, but it still affects them.

As for being in a car... then you have the argument that well at least the windows are rolled down, so it doesn't affect them "as much." :sad2:

I saw the ice thing personally on my trip a couple of weeks ago. I had a very thorough bag checker and one man in front of me had lettuce, lunch meat, and "fixins" in his bag and the guy took it all out because of the ice on the bottom, he had to check it. It was kind of funny though.
I am also happy because I don't remember another trip with so many double side by side strollers. Riding the bus was hell--other people's strollers on my knees. My grandson was in a one kid stroller but I thought THAT was too big--when we started going and my youngest was in a stroller we always took a smaller umbrella stroller, not one of these monsters. The wagons are just ridiculous.

So, if you’re park hopping, you would need to discard the ce cubes before entered no the next park. Quite an inconvenience but nless they plan to set up ice stations just beyond security, I wouldn’t want to have to head to a QS location immediately after getting into the park.
On the Disney Parks Blog Mom Panel thing, someone asked a question and the "Mom" replied that yes, you could have ice in a resealable bag.

Thing is, the Disney Mom panel is not always right. They aren't official. Sadly. So even if they said that, you can get there and be told no. It would have to be on the actual rule for you to be 100%

Sorry but I do not feel bad for the smokers. Now I am concerned about where they will put the smoking area outside. I really don't want to start off my day by walking through a cloud of smoke. If I wanted to smell like an ashtray I would take bath in a fireplace.

I don't feel bad either. I get that smoking can be an addiction (I'm a former smoker), but that doesn't mean I need to feel badly that they need to walk to the front of the park if they need to feed that addiction. There are other options too. Pills, patches, gums, etc. so they can try and get through the day without. What do they do at work? I have a job where smoke breaks are not allowed and it's illegal to smoke on the property, and I know we have smokers here. They seem to manage their 8 hour day just fine.
