BTW, does anyone else think of John Secada when you think of cicadas? I know they're pronounced differently, but still... lol (You say cicada, I say secada...)

Anyway, they lay their eggs in the trees, correct? So then what happens? How do they get into the ground? Are the trees going to be "raining" cicada babies??

We were just discussing cicadas in Kansas this week with Sarah's inlaws. They live in Topeka. I was told they lay eggs in the trees, then they hatch and fall to the ground. Her mother in law said at times it does feel like it's raining little bugs. We were talking about this because the "17 year cicadas" are due to swarm this summer. She said it lasts about 6 weeks, then it's over for another 17 years. We don't have this in Colorado, so I was fascinated.

all i have to say is -- it only lasts 6 weeks? WHEW!!!!!! it must be almost over, then. ::yes:: :)
