We are going to be at Old Key West for the first time over Easter. I read where they have church services at the Contemporary in one of the ballrooms. Has anyone attended?? What kind of clothes would one need to bring?

They usually have two Catholic masses with Protestant services between the two masses. People are dressed for the parks, so shorts and t-shirts are appropriate. For Catholics used to kneeling during portions of the mass, there is no kneeling since there are no kneelers. The priest asks the people attending the mass to sit instead of kneel. The services are usually rather crowded.

I thought I read in "Unofficial Guide" they were no longer holding services on site... :confused3

I clicked on Easter Happenings on this site and it gave me the times for the services....I guess I should call and find out for sure?

Disney used to have services on site every Sunday at the Polynesian. These were discontintued a couple of years ago. It wouldn't surprise me that they have something on site for Easter. If you saw it listed it should be happening.

Enjoy!

The Mary, Queen of the Universe is nearby, a beautiful Catholic Church and Shrine.

They did have 2 Catholic Masses and 1 Protestant service at the Contemporary for Christmas. We got the information on a sheet of paper that was slipped under the door a few days before Christmas.

However, it will cost you a bundle in taxi fees if you do not have a car! We have been at the Polynesian services and tehy were casual. Last year, they had regular Sunday services at the Contemporary, but not Ash Wed. I had not heard that Sunday Services were discontinued, just moved to the CR.

The weekly Catholic Masses were stopped several years ago but they did continue the Christmas and Easter masses at the Contemporary. The Masses are provided by Mary Queen of the Universe Shrine. The Shrine's sole purpose is to serve the visitors to Orlando (not a parish) and offers a wide variety of times. Usually their site details the plans for WDW -- this year I don't see anything. A call to the Shrine would get you an answer as to what is planned for Easter at WDW. The Shrine itself is located very near to DD and the Premium Outlets. You do need a car or transportation to get there.
Mary Queen of the Universe Shrine Dress here is a wide mix with many casual.
