Every October our church as a "Garage Sale" (I think they actually call it a Trash To Treasures Sale, but you get the point). People bring in their "junk", some very dedicated people spend 2 or so days sort and pricing and then on Saturday they have the sale.

Well, I was there last night for choir practice. And I got there early knowing that the hall would be set up for the sale. The stuff that was there was great. There were things that had never been opened. And, I managed to snag some books before the official sale. I walked away with 15 books for $1.80 (Actually, I gave them $2 -- how generous can you be? :teeth: ). Some of these books were practically brand new (one actually had the original receipt in it). And a fellow choir member saw BRAND New LL Bean Ice Skates. She got them for $1!!! (wish I had seen them first, they would have fit me).

Any way, the point of this whole post is that you can find some great bargains at church sales. And if you're in the Montclair area on Saturday, PM me and I'll give you the church info. Trust me, you can get some GREAT stuff, dirt cheap!

I am the chair of our annual church fair, last yer for me I have no time left! Anyhow, we have what is called a 2nd time around shop that nets us about 1000 -1200 dollars, most of this stuff is fantastic and soooo cheap. I am thank-ful I have a dedicated crew that sets up and prices all of it! The morning of our fair they start lining up at 8 am for the 9 am opening and if I am a second late.....it is scary how some people get, lol.

I love going to the rummage sales at Churches. I however am going to get stuff to resell on Ebay. However, there are usually some really good deals.

I got a very nice 2 foot tall Mickey Mouse doll wearing khaki shorts for I think a dollar or two. I'll be giving to DD when we get back to the hotel after MVMCP. :)

I never go to Garage Sales.....never find anything! I did go to a neighbor's because DD wanted to. I got a Christmas Mickey Mouse in a hot air balloon (he's big maybe 2 ft. total) He has a telescope thing he looks through and it turns. It was $3.00...the guy said he didn't think it worked, I got it because it was cute and still in the box. Told DH to try and fix it and he said it worked fine!

They had so much stuff, that they extended the sale a day and were open on Sunday from noon - 3pm.

Told my bro about the sale and he went and spent 60 cents. What did he get? A Mickey Mug, a book and a LENNOX vase!

I think these are better than your average yard/garage sale as there is always so much stuff.

Funny side story...the hall in which they had the sale is usually where they have coffee/goodies after church. It also is the place where the choir tends to congregate after rehearsal, but before the service. It was pretty full of people because we were all checking out the stuff. The pastor comes in to do his usual pre-service prayer with the choir. So we're all gathered up front where there is some room. On the table there was a Furby and as he starts the prayer the thing starts yammering away and won't shut up (someone even through it in a box to try and muffle it. No such luck!) :hyper: Needless to say, the choir and the pastor were pretty much :hyper: during the whole thing. I believe the prayer ended with "and will you please shut that thing up! Amen!" :teeth: :hyper:
