I am so excited to read about your trip with your sisters! DH and I took my sister to WDW in 2009 for her birthday and we had a blast! You all are so gorgeous, by the way!

Day 4 Part 3: Boma and AKL
We head on the bus towards AKL. Its only a short ride, thank goodness. Although the bus wasnt considerably crowded and we were able to find seats.
We reached Jambo house and checked in for our reservation. We still had about 15 minutes to kill so we decided to walk around and check out the animals. Since it looked like it was going to rain, we didnt venture out too much, but I manage to take these pictures from inside and outside the Lodge. What a beautiful resort! The savannah view is definitely the way to go!

After a while it starts to pour! Hopefully we get seated soon. I checked out the gift store at Jambo house too and saw some cute safari-inspired stuff. I thought their gift store was well-stocked and had lots of things the POFQ store didnt. I guess its one of the perks of a Deluxe resort. Doesnt matter, we were headed to DTD after dinner, and I was planning on doing most of my shopping there.
So our buzzer goes off, hooray! We went back to Boma and were seated immediately. The buffet looked good, so we were super excited to try many of the different flavors it had to offer. Now, I have had some African food before. I have a good friend who is Senegalese and we have eaten Senegalese food in NYC before. When I described to her the menu from Boma, she scoffed at it saying that it was NOT authentic. (Fufu is not made with sweet potatoes!). So I knew not to expect anything that was terribly authentic, but either way I was looking forward to having an interesting twist on your regular buffet fare. Also, Africa is such a large continent there is bound to be differences between the same dishes in different regions right? An example is when my Senegalese friend sat next to a friend from Ghana at our wedding. They had an argument all night over whose version of the traditional Jolaf rice was the best LOL.At Boma, Jolaf rice was called Gilly (sp?) rice, but my friend assured me that it means the same thing. LOL.
Heres some pics of our food. Overall, we loved it! Everything tasted fresh and flavorful, which is more than what we expected from a buffet. I especially loved the different soups. Although they were a bit salty, I liked how there were 4 different soups, each tasting completely different from the other. I think the choices we had were mulligatawny, wild mushroom, a sort of ham and bean soup, which I thought was the best, and then a version of a chicken and peanut soup which I have had before. Bomas version was not bad, it was smoother than I thought it would be, the ones I have had before were chunky.

My blue glowtini drink. I liked the pink version better.

We went up several times and tried different things on each round. There were a lot of different choices! One thing that I really loved was the grapefruit, avocado and papaya salad. It sounds weird but it was good! Maybe its because I love grapefruit, avocado and papaya as separate foods, and this was the first time I've had them together. Who knew they would mesh so well? The hummus bar was ok, I have had better hummus, but its a nice touch to the buffet. The coconut rice was a lot sweeter than I expected it to be. I am used to a more savory coconut rice (I am from Singapore so I eat a lot of spicy exotic foods usually) but it was an interesting take on it. They also had more basic fare, like prime rib, sausage and peppers, mixed vegetables, pasta and regular salad bar fare, so even the non-adventurous would find something to eat.
At one point during dinner I looked over at DHs plate, and saw a small breaded patty, and I asked, Wow, is that some exotic potato pancake that I didnt see? Is it some special fried dough or some exotic fish? He looks at me and laughs and replies, Its a chicken nugget LOL. Hahaha.
So heres the nugget which I thought was something more exotic than it really is. It was good nugget though.

There were a lot of different desserts too! I couldnt imagine eating any more at this point, but I was just too tempted by all the different offerings. Zebra domes were good. A bit too sweet but Im not complaining. The passionfruit mousse (the orange dome thing) was good! I love passionfruit!

Wow, were we STUFFED by the time we left. As we departed Boma, we checked out the menu for Jiko. Definitely pricey, but the menu looked great. Maybe next time!
So our plan that evening was to hop on a bus to DTD and then take the ferry from there back to POFQ. It was still raining at that point so it was ponchos on from that point onwards. Since it was already dark out, I didnt take any pictures at DTD, although I saw these t-shirts which were kind of funny.

I saw a pair of sandals which I really liked! However, I didnt see anything else in the store that I wanted. The sandals were 39.99, but there was a 50 dollar minimum to get the 10% discount with the Disney Visa. This is kind of what annoyed me about the whole discount, in that certain stores sold different things so you werent always able to find everything you want at each store, and you end up spending MORE money just to get the discount. I tried to talk to the salespeople to see if they could combine purchases from another store but the salespeople didnt want to budge, so I just had to purchase the sandals without the discount. Boo. I also asked if I could combine it with a purchase from ESPN zone next door (the stores were connected) but they said No too.
We then went to World of Disney and I got a few gifts for my friends kids, a Mickey head picture frame, some ice cube trays and boxers for DH. I was able to use my discount there, whew. We ducked into a few more shops and wandered around for a little bit. But the rain really prevented us from doing much more than I anticipated we would.
All in all, a semi-productive evening at DTD. It was still sort of drizzling at that point. We decided we were too tired to make it to EMH at MK, so we just decided to take the water launch back to POFQ. The ride was a lot longer than I expected, but it was a very calm and quiet boat ride. On the way we caught a glimpse of the Illuminations fireworks. Back at the resort, I went to the gift store to buy more water for our room, and then we called it a night!
End of Day 4![]()
I have totally missed out on all inoventions has to offer!! I actually read some of your report to dh..just so he could hear about how cool some of the stuff is. We never have spent much time there. I think because in DL, innoventions traumatized us. See we went there when our first three were a bit younger and we would get into it and they would want to take off running. See..there...you enter through carousel of progress and instead of seats you are on a belt that rotates around innoventions. You try and watch the "show" and the kids are trying to ditch out the back side into invoventions to play with the gadgets. It was kinda stressfull..It wasn't until this last trip that I even went into COP in WDW...cause I thought it was similar. Next trip...we are going to spend LOTS of time in both East and West!
Wow, sounds like Innoventions was a blast! The virtual video game sounds awesome and definitely worth checking out next time... though I admit I've never spent much time there but your update makes me want to!![]()
Fantastic update! I loved your very descriptive report of the virtual video game. Like the other posters, I didn't even know that was there. Also guilty of not spending enough time in Innoventions.
We did try Sum of all Thrills- you explained it very well!
What a FABULOUS Day 5- Toy Storia Mania mania, Le Cellier, some major fun at Innoventions and World Showcase...![]()
Innoventions looks like great fun. I hadn't really given it much thought in our planning, I have been focused on the "big" attractions. We will definitely have to give this a go. I really like the idea of building your own roller coaster!
The Kim Possible missions look so interesting, we are going to save some time do to some of these.
Can't wait for the next update.
I've loved reading your trip report! We will be at WDW in May this year and wondered if you liked 'Ohana or Boma better. We have an ADR for dinner (and breakfast) at 'Ohana, but I keep reading mixed reviews about it. Our kids are 9, 6 & 3. Also, what did you think about being there in May? How were the crowds? We will be there the 7-14th. Thanks!!![]()
We did 'Sum of all Thrills' & loved it, but we totally missed seeing 'Runtime'!
We have to do that next time! I love your little video game character - too cute!
The KM missions were so much fun, weren't they? That is a great picture of you two with Tigger & Pooh!
I know it's been a while but I am back and all caught up! I wasn't as far behind as I thought!
We walked through the Innoventions building when we were there and it just seemed like nothing was all that interesting to us. We did something similar to The Sum of all Thrills at Disney Quest a few years ago, but I know my DBF would have liked Runtime! I'm sad we missed that one!
And I loved your pics from WS from your Le Cellier day. I have never seen that little cottage in the Canada pavilion! Although if it's down by the entrance to the restaurant, that's why...we've never eaten at Le Cellier before!
I'm really excited to read about your March trip! Sounds like a lot of fun!
Finally caught up after being gone for a couple of months! Innoventions looks like so much fun... I really need to spend time there the next time I go!
As always, your pictures are lovely!
Haha, that's so funny you read my report to your DH! I hope that has piqued his interest in returning to WDW hopefully soooner rather than later!
Hmm, it was crowded in May, much more so than September. And it was HOT to boot. A lot of rain too, but we had a great time!
Oh, no! my dd is going in May on her disneymoon. She thinks weather and crowds will be better than they were in September.I just wont tell her what you said.
I think it depends on WHEN in May she's going....If you go in the beginning/middle of the month BEFORE schools start getting out, the crowds aren't so bad. We've gone in May twice (like the 2nd week) and had really good experience with the crowd levels. It was HOT but not any worse than October, IMO.
