different than the usual. We just had the same big meal at Thanksgiving. I dont know if I can bear looking at turkey and ham again. And stuffing and heavy casseroles. been there, done that. Done want traditioinal food. Would just as soon order pizza. anybody else?

One year we had soup for Christmas dinner. Each 'family' brought it a different soup. We had bread/crackers and salad. It was actually really good not feeling so stuffed at the end of the day.

One year because we had both turkey and ham for Thanksgiving, I made a big lasagna, salad, and garlic bread for Christmas...it was different then traditional and everyone enjoyed it .

For us, on Christmas, the food is not such a big deal. We usually do Italian -- stuffed shells, lasagna, a crockpot full of meatballs and a big salad...some apps, cookies and we just sort of graze our way through the day.

We never, ever, ever, ever do a Thanksgiving repeat for Christmas for just that reason--everyone is sick of it.

We usually do Prime Rib or Beef Tenderloin which, in my opinion, is tons easier than cooking a turkey and much better tasting but different strokes, right!

Our other fall back is lasagne. I prefer the Christmas meals so much more than Thanksgiving.

I'm totally at a loss for what to do for Christmas dinner. My mom wants another full turkey dinner and I just can't stand the idea. My brother wants pizza. My husband doesn't seem to care.

At this point, we're having Hot Pockets.

We usually do the whole turkey and ham thing with family Christmas Eve... but this year we're going out to our favorite Chinese place instead :thumbsup2

Well, here's where Canadians reap the benefit of our earlier Thanksgiving (mid-October)... it's long enough ago to savor a turkey dinner again!

But we are having sukiyaki.

I love one-pot, cook-at-the-table meals for Christmas. Fondue would be another fun thing to do!

This will be my second year for making a standing rib roast. Everyone loves it! And you are right, they are very easy to make.

Oh, and I also have made lasagna in the past. They enjoyed that too!

We do food on Christmas Eve - Christmas Day we just pick at leftovers.. (No "meal" on Christmas Eve - more of the type of dishes you would bring to a party..)

Italian sounds good.. Or maybe going out?
:santa:

Now we usually go out for Christmas Eve, but we used to have fondue. It was so much fun! For Christmas dinner - beef tenderloin, or some other beef roast. We never repeat Thanksgiving.

MIL does ham for Christmas dinner.

With my mom we do appetizers, usually on Christmas Eve. Lots of dips, veggie and fruit trays, meatballs, shrimp cocktail. The kids love all the finger foods, and I like that we can do crockpots and just buffet style serve.

My DH has kindly offered to BBQ. No small offer as we are in STL and they are predicting ice! He did it last year too. It was just soooo good! Really special for this time of year.

We exactly the same meal on Christmas that we do on Thanksgiving but those are the only two days of the year we eat those foods.

Not me! I was in Canada for our Thanksgiving. I think I had scallops for dinner. I am dying for some turkey and dressing - didn't think I would miss it so much.

We're doing french dip sandwiches this year. I don't think anybody is in the mood to do full-out cooking this year. I think we usually eat turkey or ham or prime rib, but its more low key, hang around the house and watch football and movies kind of year this year :goodvibes

After TG we're all turkey'd out and C'mas dessert baked out , hense C'mas day is a laid back enjoyable type day with lots of left overs ;). Our 4 adult kids take turns hosting TG, so I usually host C'mas eve :goodvibes. This year with all the kids and grands being home it'll be 20-25'ish and I'm doing eeaassyyy buffet style: pot of BBQ, meat balls, asst. finger foods, pot salad, slaw, deviled eggs, pineapple cheese ball, and the kids always bring lots of their tasty contributions. On C'mas day we'll visit my Mom and enjoy munching on her yummy stuffed ham. :)

We have ham...every.single.year. :headache:

This year, we decided to grill strip steaks and have shrimp cocktail :thumbsup2 It's just the four of us and my dad, so I don't need a lot of food.

Still looking for a potato dish to go with the steak, but that is another post! ;)
