Has anyone ever opted to forego the parks and simply take in the resort experience??We are going to AKV/OKW for the holidays and Im wondering what and if there would be enough to do.Anyone have an old schedule of typical events?Just trying to have a plan B in case of inclement weather/budget.Thanks!

I've never been for Christmas Day before but am going to AKV this Christmas too. We are foregoing the parks, just way too crazy to enjoy it and will be soaking in the resorts atmosphere. I love going to DVC without going to the parks. I was at AKV in September and there so many things going on that you wouldn't miss out on the parks at all. I'm not sure what is going on Christmas Day but I'm sure all the days leading up to the 25th and after will be full of activities. BTW, I was at VWL a couple of Christmas' ago (not on Christmas Day though) and Santa visited the resort for the kiddies. That was very fun.

I would call the resort and ask if they can send you a listing of activities. You may find more to do at AKV than OKW (the list of activities at AKV each time I've been was much more than at OKW when I've visited in the past).

Don't forget Downtown Disney. Again, not sure about Christmas Day but I do know that they have outside performances at night leading up to Christmas Day and that's free. We also watch the fireworks at the Magic Kingdom from either the Poly or the Grand Floridian and that's free as well. You must visit the Grand Floridian and soak it all up. They have a life size Gingerbread house and always seem to have live music. We spent over an hour there one evening before the fireworks.

We've gone for Christmas for the last 10 years. It is very crowded. MK will stop letting people in around 11-12:00 due to capacity from Christmas day until after new years. Last year I think Epcot was the only park that didn't close due to capacity.

If you want to visit the parks I suggest you go first thing in the morning, leave at lunch and return at night. I the afternoon you could visit the other hotels and Downtown Disney or take a nap to be ready for the night time.

You just need to have the attitude that nothing will get to you because it's Christmas and go with the flow.
