Christmas: Will more rooms open up?

DH and I are tinkering with the idea to go to WDW for Christmas this year. I never thought I would ever consider going that time of year but we think it might be a once in a lifetime chance to be there with relatively low crowds for Christmas!

We don't have a lot of points so our first choice would be a standard view BWV studio but of course, there is no availability right now. As Disney increases park capacity, will they be opening up more rooms at the resorts? Or are the resorts that are operating, already operating with full availability?

DVC makes all rooms available right from the beginning of the 11-month home resort booking window. The only exceptions would be rooms pulled from inventory due to planned maintenance or a member’s exchange into the Disney Collection (rooms are turned over for cash reservations). There is no inventory held back otherwise. It has nothing to do with park capacity.

So given that, your only hope for a BWV std. view studio would be if there’s a cancellation. And you would have to hope that no one is ahead of you on the waitlist. Set up a waitlist and stalk the RAT for your nights. Something may come thru for you. I would normally say that you don’t have a snowball’s chance, but 2020 is a weird year.

DVC resorts are fully open ( except for SSR which has rooms out for rehab). While I think your chances of getting a standard view studio at BWV are very small, there continues to be lots of "churn" in availability. Many still are unsure if they are ready to travel again.

If you can be more flexible in your choice of resort & view, there is still a good chance of getting something for Christmas week. Good luck!

we own there, standard always disappears quickly. Studio appears to be walked during popular times ala another of our resorts AKV

suggest you book something to have a place at the inn. Ck SSR & OKW.

then, try to flip it Via WL.

Might want to consider a split stay

another option with limited points is to book something thru CRO or cancellable at swan. Then, try to piece the res together day by day via DVC & cancel

if there ever was a year the odds are in your favor to grab an Xmas reservation Outside 11 month mark, it’s now

The pattern to fall reservations now is that more openings keep occurring, likely due to members canceling existing reservations due to Covid issues, but its a more "near" than "far" progression, e.g., there are more openings happening in Sep and Oct now than thereafter, but likely that progression will continue into other months as time passes. Nevertheless, to get a standard BWV studio at Christmas time, which rooms very often book full right at 11-months out much of the year, and have long wait-lists, is likely something with a low probability of occurring, e.g., those studios have generally not been ones becoming available for multiple nights in Sep and Oct, but likely chances include SSR, OKW, Kidani, and Poly, and at least some chances for some others..

I have booked multiple Christmas vacations and I stalk the website, here is what I have seen over the years -

People change their minds all the time about Christmas, many factors with family -and now we have the virus, so cancellations have been quite common over the years.

However, you often have to be confident and cagey enough to grab days when they show, which often means having holes in your stay for a bit.

I love the crowds and the chaos of the season at WDW. Longer hours and the most beautiful energy.

Giving you a different perspective as most posts talk about the negative slant of how crowded it is during Christmas/NYE.
