Christmas Trees

We have a fake tree. I prefer real, but both DH and I have allergies, as does my Mom, and my nephew, so it is just not worth it to make everyone, us included, sick.

I'm beyond sentimentally sappy...I refuse to have a real tree because I feel so bad for them. All those trees cut down and lying forlornly by the side of the road in the weeks after Christmas, a few pieces of tinsel clinging to the dying branches...

No, they don't have a recycle program here. They go to the landfill.

I broke down and got a real 3 times in the past 13 years for my son. I grew up on the artificial kind.

I broke my vacuum cleaner cleaning up the needles and MAN, needle is a good word for those things if you've ever stepped on one!

My Mom bought me a beautiful artificial tree back in the 80s that NO ONE can tell is not real. I'm back with that....

I'd actually prefer a real tree but, I'm allergic to them & so are other family members. Something about being in an enclosed space with them actually makes my mom lose consciousness.

Plus, having a fake tree to re-use every year is cheaper.

I like having a real tree. Fake trees do not hold enough challenge - they don't like to fall down, don't have to have presents moved to be watered, don't drop little needles everywhere. They can be arranged "just so" without holes that require creative cover-up with tinsel and ornaments.

Fake trees are for wimps! (that's a joke, not intended to offend.)

Real all the way. There is nothing like walking through a nice Christmas tree farm, sipping hot chocolate, and choosing the perfect tree. My entire family (Golden, Pug, Brussels, and Poodle included ) goes together Thanksgiving weekend. It's usually a 1-2 hour affair. We tag our tree and pick it up later.

And the scent of the tree in your home.... ah Christmas!

I always get a real flocked Christmas tree. It is a family tradition. The thing I'm beginning to hate about it is that the trees are looking skinner and skinner every year!!!!

Fake here for me. I remember when I was young going to chop down a tree with my dad. Once we started moving, that became impossible so we got a fake tree. That tree has been in our family now going on 25 years. I think this year we may just have to replace it sadly

DH and I bought a fake tree when we first got married. It was actually cheaper for us to buy fake.

Every year we say we will buy a new (fake) tree and every year we dont. I swear our fake tree has the Christmas smell, it is so old it even looses its needles. So, it is like having a real one

Plus, we just are cheap

Always real for my family. My dad built a 1ft. high platform for the tree to sit on ages ago. We have a large family so there is more room for presents this way. Plus, it allows the dog to get to the front window and makes it a little easier to water. That platform has been in use for about 20 years now and no trees have been lost to date. The ceiling is very high so they get about a 6-8ft tree. After Christmas is over, the tree gets chopped up and used as firewood either in the fireplace or in the fire pit in the back yard.

DH & I usually don't get a tree unless we're not going to my home for Christmas. When we do, it's always the most pathetic, scrawny "Charlie Brown Christmas" tree that we can find on the lot. DH feels sorry for them and wants to give them homes.

Fake all the way!
We always had a real tree growing up and the first few years we were married. What a mess, the cutting of the trunk, the sap, the needles, the endless watering..forget it, I bought an artificial tree and would never go back to real!
I light a Balsam Fir Yankee Candle and call it a day.

I prefer the fake. We always purchased a real tree until we bought a home and now have the storage for a fake tree. Its nice not to worry about needles and the watering and disposal.

We have a 9ft pre lit fake tree! Too many allergy and asthma people in our family to get a real tree.

Fake trees for me. I have 2 very nice pre-lit fake trees. We used to do the real ones but it was too much trouble. I hated spending hours trying to get it straight, getting cut by the needles while putting the lights on, the tree drying out 2 weeks before Christmas, and the horrible mess to clean up after Christmas.

It wouldn't be Christmas if I was stuck in ICU with a severe asthma attack!

Therefore, artificial only for us. And no - you can't tell. We had a XMas party a couple of years ago and I was burning the pine candle from Yankee and several guests actually commented on how beautiful our real tree was. They had no clue it was artifical since we had the smell

Even without allergies, there is no way I'd mess with a real when I can have just as good looking a tree for less money, less mess, and no struggle.

I'm curious about this too, I never bought a tree with the pre-strung lights for this reason. Plus I like lots and lots of lights on my trees and the pre-strung ones never had enough to my liking.

Have you tried lately? I got a Costco tree and it has way too many lights for me! I turn the lights off to bask in the romantic glow of the tree lights - but I can't tell the lights are off! IMO, when you can read by it from across the room - it's too bright!
