Christmas tree question

Our tree has been up for over 2 weeks. I have added water daily to the stand, but have noticed a not too pleasant smell coming from the stand now. I didn't want to take the tree down til the weekend. Anyone have any suggestions on what I can add to the water to try and remove the odor??

A few tablespoons of vinegar should do the trick and won't harm the tree or the carpeting/floor.
