Christmas Shopping 2010

The Air Hogs sounds really cool. My DS wanted that for Christmas but I was deterred by the price for what it is....I did get him the night vision binoculars and I got him a digital voice recorder that I think he'll really like-he's been bugging me to borrow an old tape recorder I have.

Thanks again for the advice on the binoculars. They arrived today and look really cool!

Glad to hear it was helpful!

And I did put out my hand on thoughts and videos of the Air Hogs Hawk Eye. It is very much like the helicopters of before, but, with a video camera. It's really a lot of fun. You DO need to be patient while learning to control the helicopter if you have never used it before, but, once you get it... You're good to go. The newer price drops are helping make it an easier choice to consider.

Did you get the Target toy catalog? Got some good ideas from there. DD1 mentioned that Loopz game and then I saw a few possibilities for DD2. Coupons in the catalog are good until Nov. 24. Now I'll just have to figure when to go pick up stuff. Maybe next week if I can swing it.

Loopz.

Ah... Loopz.

Get it. It's a modern 3D version of Simon. VERY cool stuff. I've been all about it since seeing it at the Toy Fair this past year. And for some of the going prices ~22-25 of recent days, it's pretty reasonable. What makes it fun is the multiple game play modes. It has the simon stuff, but also has been in "reflex" mode amongst a music game play mode and others.

I was researching the Kindle and came across the Pandigital Novel 7" Color Multimedia eReader does anyone have any info or opinions on it?

From what I saw on it, it's an android based tablet reader. Android like the iPhone alternatives in the smart phone world. The google phones. It's based on Android 2.0 and 3.0 is coming out soon so it's a little bit behind in the OS version there...

That said, it sounds like it is a hacker friendly device. And I don't mean hacker in a negative way, but someone that links to tinker. From there, it sounds like it is open to all sorts of fun stuff to hack around on ...

For the normal user, it sounds like it is good, but, can be a little laggy. For $200, you are getting close to the price of the new Nook color which is $250 and I think it is coming out November 19th.

Given the choices, and if the additional bucks were there, I would get the Nook without hesitation.

The Kindle is a great choice as well, but, the nook is all about books AND other things. It's also android based.

The Kindle is all about books and does it well. Very well. But, that is the primary focus.

The nook color will have all sorts of features and will be more of an iPad-ish device than a Kindle straight ebook reader. I would strongly recommend searching the net for Nook Color and see what you think.

(but, again, Kindle's are an excellent choice as well.)

Well finally got a few things done. You all inspired me to get my lazy butt moving :rotfl: So far I have...
DH: Chiefs slippers
DD13: Highschool Hoodie, Tinkerbell pj's, snuggie, ordered a personalized art kit, necklace for SS
DD11: 2 pair of (go green) pj's (one for christmas one for her birthday right after Christmas), snuggie, ordered custom part of Minnie outfit
DS10: Megablocks Halo command set, skater pj's, hoodie, snuggie, stuffed animal for SS, scrub a dub rubber ducky doll for bath (this was big on his list as he loves anything rubber ducky themed and still loves bath toys)
Secret Santa B8: Halo megablocks set
Secret Santa B4: thomas Mega Blocks
Still need...
DH: tons of stuff no idea what
DD13: Acoustic guitar, shoes (moccasin) and more SS's
DD11: Doll, DS game, possibly new cell phone (if gma and gpa get it I need to think of something else), leggings and long sleeved T to go with Minnie outfit, SS's
DS10: Large tub of Lego's, new Diary of a wimpy kid book, more SS's
Secret Santa B8: light up and sound toy gun, mighty beans, Lego's or Megablocks
Secret Santa B4: Thomas play set, Cars set (maybe race track), cars slippers

DS11 is not quite as far along but his list is hammered out. All that is left to buy is a camera, upgrade his cell phone, and pick up his Kinect and games next weekend. He loves Wimpy Kid books and I plan to get him the latest book but need one other so they each get 2... ideas for a kid who ONLY has enjoyed Wimpy Kid and Narnia series??

Both my DD9 and DS11 have loved the Percy Jackson series.
They rarely like the same books but these were a super hit in our house.
Check them out.

Ok..........Ive been reading this thread for sometime trying to get suggestions for my kids DD17, DD14, and DS4. I did have a couple things stashed in the closet for DS..........other than that I had nothing which is so unlike me. Usually I am way far along. So you motivated me to go out last night and do a little shopping.

I got DH: a pkg of XLT undershirts with the $10 off coupon from Penneys for a total of $9.99 plus tax. (Normally $26 for 3 shirts uughh)

DS: The dog pillow pet from BBB for $16.xx (used the $5 off $15 coupon)
The Handy Manny Construction Playset for $24.xx (On Sale at Target)
Toy Story 3 DVD/Blue Ray for $16.xx (Used the $8 coupon)

I already have the Leapster 2 for him along with a couple of games.

I wanted to get him the Maters Tall Tales DVD, but thought $17 or $20 was a bit much for a movie that is 38 minutes long.

I want to get some make up for my DD14, but she has had skin problems that the dermatologists cant determine, so I want it to be natural, and hypoallergenic, etc. Any suggestions?

Its not a lot, but its a start. I thought I saw online yesterday in something from Walmart that they had a microwave for $29. I was going to get that for DD that is going off to college, but all the ones I saw were $49 and up. So I will keep my eyes peeled for that.

Okay well I will be getting this for my DD10 and DD11 so the Pandigital Novel should be okay then right? I have found them for $179.99 where the Nook will cost me $249 which is more than I can afford comfortably. I did find the actual Kindle for $139 but is it better than the Pandigital Novel?

For drug store options, I highly recommend neutrogena products that are both hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic. If you're shopping at department stores, then Clinique is another good one, but be careful with foundations...make sure you get non oil-based products. As far as lines to stay away from: Mac. I see a lot of contact dermatitis/facial dermatitis associated with this line. Unfortunately, it's the line that most teenagers gravitate to because of their fabulous colors. Hope this helps...;)

My DD(11) also likes the Percy Jackson series. I told my SIL that she could buy her the first book of the new series for Christmas-Lost Hero. I got her the Percy Jackson blu ray-we haven't seen it-hope she likes it.

Had a wrapping day today :cool1:. It's rainy & cold here today so I turned on Christmas music and wrapped the things I already have, which included a few "Santa" gifts since they are are together gifts for DD and DH (the Wii and some accessories). Usually Santa doesn't wrap!

Wanted to add that I just started using the Sally Hansen & Carmindy make up..it's paraben free and has worked well for me so far...and I tend to be on the oilier side...her blush is good and it's cheaper than what I was using from Clinque...you can go to Carmindy's site and look up the products if she is interested.

My DD10 just told me she wants some of the Monster High dolls for Christmas and I can't find any of them anywhere!

Ohhhh.. 10 and 11.

That's a tough one.

The V.Reader may not be a bad choice... if they were a little younger.

And I don't know your opinions on iPod Touches, but, you CAN get Amazon and Barnes And Nobles apps and have access to the entire Kindle and Nook ebook line! Along with the dozens of other things... But, those other things may be too much?

The Pandigital Novel is ok. It's just... it's kinda a knock off brand product. But, wouldn't make a bad choice for kids. It's just that it behaves a LITTLE like the off brand product that it is (from my understanding - no hands on).

BUT.... if you want to get it... Get it at kohls during one of those super duper discount days. That's a great way to get it for cheap! Add some kohls cash and you have a bargain!

And the kindle is great, but, it's not really a kid's toy per say. But, it is really nice. And that new wifi only model at 139ish is a great deal.

You can go to target and touch and see the Kindle models in person these days and make the best choice for you!

The kindle plus will be in screen glare and overall usage and smoothness.

The Pandigital will have the most flexibility plus color, but, with an off brand kind of feel and experience to it. I think you know what I mean?

Sigh.

:)

That pains me to see ... but, alas, I am justed.

They are out there. You just have to know how to look. Sorry for the cryptic message.

Monster highs are hard to find! Is it the plush one??

Monster highs are hard to find! Is it the plush one??

DAHHHH

:(((((

Sigh.

I hate seeing this.

:-(

There are ways to find it in stock.... ways that will even tell you when and where.

Oh!!! I forget who was asking about this, but Kinect's are actually a good deal at TRU starting tomorrow :

$50 Gift card when you buy Kinect and one of these Games (Your Shape, Motion Sports or Fighters Uncaged)

$20 Gift Card when you buy Kinect

$20 Gift Card when you buy a Kinect Value Bundle

One Gift card per guest and they activiate 6 hours later and expire 1/31/11

If you store still has stock, get it NOW and return/rebuy tomorrow!

And so I don't get accused of anything, I would prefer to put this out there - check etoys.

My recommendation may not be valid by the time you see this though.

I don't know Ed but I can guess why he said that. I imagine he knows where those toys are in stock but he can't say because he's already been told not to advertise his site. So he's probably frustrated because he wants to help, but he can't. I'm sure it was not aimed at you.

Well perhaps, if he spent more time promoting his site in places he CAN advertise effectivley, his might be SOLD OUT too!!!!!!!!!!! Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa:rotfl::rotfl:

*** Ahhhh! Edited to add, that I see what happened now. Was banned, but sounds like he/she was very helpful to some. My apologies, it seems that I read it differently than it was intended!

Well, you know stock fluctuates quite a bit for everyplace this time of year. Maybe some sites have them today and won't tomorrow, or they were out yesterday and got more today.

Regardless, I'm glad that Ed has decided to spend some of his time on here - I've been enjoying the reviews. I have an older child and I find it hard to shop for my younger niece. Between Ed's reviews and everyone else's lists I'm getting great ideas from this thread.

Not meant that way in the least bit.

Just my own frustration at myself for trying possibly to be too specific in my help in earlier posts.

What you said! :) Thanks for putting it in clearer way.

It's he ;) There was a picture before of this he to add a bit of credibility and to try to help promote that I really, really am "real", but, I think I went too far. But, you went back on that already so ...

Thanks!

Who knows. Maybe I can come up with some way to advertise here (mods? owners? anyone out there? ping / pm / whatever me and maybe we can talk about that as an opportunity?) and I can continue to help in a way that makes sense for everyone ... and keeps everyone happy!

And if anyone's interested, and still doing the Bakugan thing... The new one is more of the same as before, but, bigger and crazier!

And my 2 year old LOVES the pop on pals we checked out.. But I will say this. She really loves the overall toy in the amusement park form.... It's the interaction of being able to place the pop on pals into their environments that seems to click (pop on? ugh horrible pun :D) for her. She's also on the young extreme for the toy, but, ... I look at it as kind of a modern day Weebles with a new twist?

I know that's a big shoe to fill, and it honestly is different, but, that's the kind of toy I see it as. A Weeble-ish toy / age range... But, I do need to stress... Very different toys, but it fits the same type of personality and age groups.

Does that make ANY sense? :)
