Christmas Lists

The only thing DD16 asked for was the last season of Ugly Betty. I couldn't find it when I was buying for her. We ended up getting her a Nook. She wants one and I had told her we would get her one if she made all A's this semester- she has worked her butt off and has 1 B and the rest A's. She has no idea we are getting her the Nook anyway.

She is getting a few other things as well but that is the 'big' gift.

I am getting nothing from my kid's Christmas lists.... but they are 7 and 5 and the list is constantly changing based on what commercial they just saw. Instead of several toys that will get played with a couple of times, and then forgotten about for the next 6 months, I am getting a Kinect for the XBox and a ping pong table for them. Mommy and Daddy are giving them the Kinect, and Santa is bringing the ping pong table and will leave a few stocking stuffers. I also have 1 small toy each so Santa will be bringing them something they don't have to share.

My kids haven't asked for much, and they are getting everything they did ask for.

DS 10 wanted a DSi to replace his broken DS. I found out after I bought the white one that white is the colour he really wants - whew, lucked out there! ;) He also wanted FIFA 11 for DS, which Santa is going to give him.

DD 9 has wanted a digital camera for a while - found a great deal at Target last month, so she's finally getting one.

DD 7 wants every cute outfit she sees , and she's getting some of them. She also wants a rolling backpack to replace her current bag that's starting to burst out and get ratty - just bought her one yesterday.

Although they haven't asked me directly for anything else, I know the girls are going to love the DS games and pendants I got them, as well as some of the smaller stuff.

My "child" is 17 and wants TV DVDs ONLY. They are EXPENSIVE though! :scared1:

I'm also getting him a letterman jacket and a DVDirect. I wanted to get him the Xbox Kinect but that'll wait till his bday.

I feel bad about not being able to buy what DS14 wants. He is a great kid, never gives me any problems and I really wanted to buy him what he wanted. He wanted Maple Leafs tickets. Well, every single game for the rest of the season is sold out, even the $600 seats which I wouldn't get anyway.

DS12 is getting everything on his list. He wanted a Nerf gun, a goalie street hockey mask, and a NHL calendar.

DS7 had a very, very long list until I realized he copied every single thing from the Walmart flyer:rotfl: He wrote "1. A 72 inch official size hockey net":rotfl::rotfl: Really, he is happy with anything so I bought him a Hot Wheels garage set, a couple of bey blades and a few activity books.

My kids are reasonable with their wish lists so they usually get what they ask for. Except for the 13yo (has one), everyone is getting an ipod touch for Christmas. Technically, they all put in for half and we're gifting the difference. Still needing a gift for DS13 to match up. Any ideas? He is a gamer and not into sports or clothing making him impossible to buy for.

Both boys want PS3 Move controllers
DS10 wants Super Scribblenauts and Lego Harry Potter
DD11 wants a flat iron for hair and an intial bracelet
DD12 wants a grey wool peacoat, knock off black uggs and some Aero shirts
DS13 asked for a Sims3 expansion pack

DD11 and DS13 are having a tough time thinking things they really desire. They are all good about earning or saving for stuff they want through out the year.

My little girls only had a few things on their list but the top 3 were all the same. An iTouch, nintendo ds, and some other handheld toy. I am having a huge problem getting them any of that at 6 and 7 years old! I just feel bad that they won't be getting their big gift they asked for from Santa. I'm thinking American Girl dolls instead... Lame?:confused3

Not at all lame. You have every right to raise your child in the manner you value. I understand wanting to encourage imaginative play and avoid electronics.
You might research and consider a DS lite (?). Most kids that age own one and your girls will feel very left out. We set ground rules over them when ours were younger and it worked out well. They could not use them to avoid social interaction.

Not lame, but you might want to consider a DS. It isn't out of the ordinary for kids that age to have one, not that you should get it bc every other kid has it. There are lot of games that are very appropriate for their age. I also think they would get more use out of them than an American Girl doll, but that is just me.

My DS11 is getting what he asked for: a Nerf Gun and the Kinect, among some other things.

My DD7 never asks for anything, she is quite happy no matter what she gets. She's very crafty and is always making things so in all honesty she could get a package of pipe cleaners and be thrilled.

I did ask her what she is going to ask Santa to bring her since we have a brunch with him this weekend. She told me American Girl Doll clothes. So, I snatched that up first thing this morning...some cute pajamas with bunny slippers since she specifically said she wished she had pajamas. She's getting a bunch of other stuff too: ballet slipper earrings, craft stuff, etc!

DD wants a Wii, she has been wanting one for a couple of years, we are finally caving in - that is what she is getting.

DS had a list a mile long - hand held GPS unit, season ski pass, Glock (yes the boy wants a handgun), different paintball gun........but being the practical parents we are, we got none of this, we got him the NetBook he needs/wants for college and his one want was Call of Duty Black Ops, we did get that.

Both kids are getting down comforters with duvets from Santa - you see, in our house Santa always confers with Mom and Dad and Santa never gets all the credit or buys the big items!
DD is getting a Twilight Jacob duvet cover, I am sooooo excited about that one item, she is going to just go gaga over it!

My DD had a DS at 6 and she had some great games that were age appropriate. If you can afford it, I would get one for them.

My daughter loves to browse the sale papers and make a list and I think we have gotten everything on it.

Squinkies
Zoobles
Slinky dog (toy story 3)
Loopz game
Mighty Beanz

We also went totally old school and got her the original nintendo. She is going to love it, but probably not as much as her father!

The things on their list that I already told them no way no how:

a pony, a farm (real one, like pack up and move) and chickens for dd 7
a dog for dd8 (and a cell phone, yeah heck no)
ds is 12 and wants an ipod touch or a ps3 or a cell phone, he's not getting any of the 3

The things they want that I am buying:
squinkies
marsmallow shooters
books
dvds
a few video games (the new donkey kong, is one)
bop it bounce and monopoly u build
halo mega blocks
new pjs and a fuzzy robe
fuzzy socks for the girls
new clothes for ds

Christmas lists have always just been wish lists at our house--never anything the kids expected to get everything (or even anything) from. Actually a couple of my son's all time favourite gifts were not on his list--so after those two years his letter the following year (I think he was 7 or 8) was basically: Dear Santa, you have better ideas than I do--please bring me something I will love:rotfl2:

DS will be turning 12 right before Christmas. He has loved Micahel Jackson for YEARS (long before it was cool to o so--he is a dancer so that has always been an appeal). He asked for a blue shirt like Michael wears. He figures he can wear it with his (too small) light khaki linen suit and that will look close to the Smooth Criminal look.
What he is actually getting for his main gift is a custom tailored (I added grow room) white suit with the blue shirt and arm band, etc designed to look just like what Michael wore. It will be one of his priciest gifts ever, but he will love it.
My kids get one big gift from Santa and one smaller item from us (plus stockings). From us he is getting something off of his list: Lego Harry Potter for the Wii.

DD will be 14 the day after Christmas. She asked for (and is getting) a new sewing machine. We splurged and got a nice one that she shouldn't "outgrow" any time soon. She really likes to make her own clothes. From us she will get satin PJs (also asked for).

I don't think it is lame. We did not have a gaming system at all until this year and we still do not have anything portable. A DS was on my son's list, but he hasn't even talked about it much--he seems to want it more because the other kids all have them than because he really wants it.
American Girl dolls can get a lot of play. She doesn't admit it to many people but my nearly 14 year old still "plays" with hers now and again (meaning changes their outfits and brushes their hair an sets up a display). You might also look at things like the Playmobil dollhouse or school. They are great for that age and will get many years of use as well.

All the Monster High dolls that she doesn't have - yes
Archery set and target - probably not
Nook - no
Pillow Pet - no (she has too many)
NO CLOTHES!!! - still getting some PJs

She is also getting stuff that isn't on her list - Monster High accessories, a really cool Silvermist doll, a nice watch, spending money, and whatever else I discover in the secret hiding spot where gifts are stashed.

DD originally wanted a Ipod Touch but then changed to a TV and DVD player for her room. And she had mentioned that she knew she couldn't ask for another "big" gift so she is wanting a digital camera for her birthday. With some very good BF sales, she is getting all three and I am still a bit under budget! So there are some CD's she wants and Spencer's has a "Jacob Black" throw that I am going to get this weekend along with some Bath and Body things (she hasn't asked for these but the Jacob Black throw will be THE big winner for her this year).

I feel like we've bought everything humanly possible this year between us and my mother. My girls are 3 and almost 5.

They are both getting Lalaloopsy dolls which is their big thing that they keep asking for. They're getting a kinect with that animal game. They're getting teacup piggies, the Toy Story trilogy, Toy Story toys, fairies, Rapunzel and princess stuff, board games... I feel like there is nothing left. My 5 year old almost got a DS but I put my foot down and said we're done.

My sons lists are getting better each year. The first year he made a "list" he asked for a giant coffee pot and a chainsaw. :rotfl: I think he was around 4 at the time.

One year he asked for stilts. I was :confused3 to say the least. I got him a kids sized pair, and he still plays with them. Go figure.

This year he has asked for the usual legos, nerf gun, wii games etc. Also thrown in the mix are batteries, a six pack of rootbeer, a drill, dove chocolates, and a belt with spikes on it.

I don't ever remember my daughter having strange requests like that. She's 18 now. She wants clothes, a bamboo tablet, a couple of anime movies, a several other things.

My son will ask for poptarts :lmao:(he had one when vacationing with another fmaily once and has had them since only as gifts--).
