I never feel in the Christmas spirit at home and I have been wanting to take the kids and go on a Christmas vacation the past few years. Right now we are booked for Aulani in Hawaii, but the airfare that weeks is absolutely stupid silly crazy. So I am looking into other options.

And I had this wild idea on Sunday night ... what if we spent Christmas week in the Cabins at Fort Wilderness. I checked and there are some still available. Our last two trips to WDW (in the last year) have been at Deluxe resorts. So this is a big depature for me. However, we went to eat at Trails End on the last trip and I was thinking about the atmosphere at the campground and thought that might really help me with my Christmas spirit :)

I know WDW is CRAZY crowded that week. My idea is to stay in the cabins, try to do most of our riding and WDW stuff on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday then relax more the rest of the week and maybe not even go into the parks but hang out in other places in Orlando.

Any thoughts or experiences from those that have stayed during that week?

If you go in with the mindset that everything is very busy I think you can have a great time. This includes all of the Orlando area. Patience definitely is a virtue at Christmas time in WDW. :santa:

We go every year at Christmas and there is just no place better for our family at Christmas. I agree with the previous poster that the mindset you have will play a big role in your overall experience. We don't really plan much ahead but instead go with whatever we decide at the time and the weather permits.

We've done the parks many times at Christmas and with some pre-planning, patience, and reasonable expectations it's a great time to be there. Just be prepared for all types of weather.

We live in an Orlando suburb. Going to the cabins for Christmas is one of our favorite things EVER!!!

We take decorations and decorate as much as we can. We have blow ups, lights and a Christmas tree! Many people decorate. Some go all out!!! We rent a golf cart and every night we ride around the campground and see everyone's Christmas displays.

It will certainly get you into the Christmas spirit!!! We are talking about going down again this year!!!

Thanks for all of the input. I'm thinking we should give it a try. It will be our third trip to the World this year, so no one will be terribly upset if we miss riding a ride or two because it is sooo busy. I think the kids will love the atmosphere with all of the decorations, etc. to look at.

We go the week before Christmas and leave just before Christmas, it's one of our favorite times to go to Disney. Yes it maybe busy but the weather is awesome more times then not..
I think you go and try it out to see if this is your cup of tea.
Staying at the cabins is alway nice too.
I love taking the golf cart and driving around to look at others campsite decorations.pixiedust:
