With Christmas right around the corner, I need to start purchasing gifts for grandkids and assorted neices and nephews. Ages ranging from 1 yr to 14 yrs, both girls and boys.

I am so out of touch with what's hot and what's not. Of course I would like to spend as little as possible, but I always go just a bit overboard.

I was thinking of starting one of the girls with the Monster High dolls or the new Furby Boom, but not sure if these would be 'cool' or not. Lol, they look silly to me, but what do I know. :confused3 And I have no idea about the boys.

So to the moms in the group, please help out this grandmom with what's hot and what's not for this Christmas.

Thank you

I would also check in with the parents and work in concert with them. My kids are older now, but when they were younger, as a parent I was often "scooped" by well-meaning grandparents for the cool present I'd planned to get for the kids.

Thanks. Yes, that goes without saying. I've always contacted them prior to purchase for the OK.

Check out the Disney for Families board. They have started the 6th Annual Christmas thread which is where people post ideas of what they have bought/are buying and what's hot for kids!

Well, i have an almost-14 year old girl, so I can speak to that age -

iTunes cards
makeup
American Eagle clothing
iPod speaker or good headphones
Sperry shoes or Sperry-type boat shoes
scarves in a variety of colors - especially the infinity-type loops
Nike Elite basketball socks - I think they're ugly, but both boys and girls are wearing them
phone cases - they treat them like "phone outfits" and change them all the time. the sparklier the better
The boys seem to wear a lot of pullover hooded sweatshirts
I'd guess that at least half of my daughter's friends have iPhones with shattered screens, so screen protectors and/or a gift card to the Apple Store

Mine DS is 11. We have him make a list of things and make suggestions to relatives as they ask.

Gift cards for his DS and PS3
Video games
money
He is not into clothes. I buy for my Mom and my cousin and aunt and they reimburse me. I know what they want to spend. For my we spend 50 she gives him a 100 bill which we use to buy him more stock. He gets so much as most kids do he does not need to buy anything else. We did let him use it one year to help him purchase his PS3. A lot of family members gave him money that year but he got what he wanted. We purchased the extras cables, chargers etc.

Movie gift cards are good for most ages!

I don't know how old they are, but, my almost 5 year old and her friends are really into the Disney Princess Palace Pets this year and they are already hard to find. I seem to be able to find them on Amazon and order them before they sell out (Thank you Prime!). They are also really into Lalaloopsies and My Little Pony Equestria girls.

Thanks for the info.
Which Lalaloopsies should I look for? There are so many different ones and they all look the same to me. Are some more desirable to a 4 or 5 yr old than others? I remember my little one being upset that Santa didn't leave her the right Cabbage Patch doll. She was lucky I could even find one. lol. ;)

Just had a 3rd birthday for one of the grands, and I got her a Princess Sofia dress with the crown and amulet and a doll. It was the hit of the day. She whipped her clothes off in front of everyone before we could stop her to get the dress on asap! That dress would make any little princess happy on Christmas morning. Got it all at Costco for under $30.

You can't go wrong with any of the Lalaloopsies DD and her friends love all of them. However, the ones that go on every single trip with us (car or plane), supermarket, movies, birthday parties and you can even find 1 or 2 on DD's bed right now are the Lalaloopsie Littles. These are the medium size ones, big enough to carry around and also harder to loose than the mini lol. My DD really wants this one http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=23371156

 You're scaring me! :scared:

Maybe have them make a list of what they would like for christmas; my parents have always done this not only for us kids, but now to include the grandkids;

once the grandkids make the list, then their parents can make notes
(example:
*IPOD (maybe an ITUNES Card instead; Santa is bringing the ipod))

This has always worked for our family!

I think gift cards are brilliant. I know lots of people don't like to give them, but my DD 15 loves them.

WOW! My daughter just turned 14 and I'm telling ya that I could have written this list. haha! Crazy how alike the kids are :thumbsup2

Funny. I am a mom and was reading for some inspiration on presents for nephews-i am pretty out of touch for the boys. My middle daughter likes monster high and accessories. The youngest likes Sofia, Barbies, and Doc Mcstuffin. The oldest is into jewelry/friendship bracelets, music and anything with peace signs.
