Christmas gifts

Couldn't think of another title. I know who I am voting for as most people do because they have already made up their minds, so let's talk Christmas.

I'm trying to figure out how to word my question.
My BIL and his wife always buy FIL a nice expensive($200) gift. We can not compete with his expenses and don't even try to. But most times it makes me feel like our gift is just inadequate. KWIM?

FIL is huge into cars and especially Fords. Sorta the kind of guy who already has everything. Very hard to shop for. But BIL always buys something cool and expensive.

So I guess my question is do you have someone like this in your family. It's one part of Christmas I dread.

My father and my boyfriend. Both of them are the kind that if they want it they go out and buy it. I have to be very creative when it comes to gifts for these two.

Usually, my DH. But this year, he has already chosen his gift for himself (a$600 gift, no less). I am having a hard time coming up with things I want him to get for me. Mostly b/c he decided to go back to school and I am bringing home the bacon so anything he "buys" for me is acutally coming out of my paycheck.

No.. I refuse to be intimidated or made to feel "inadequate" by others.. I purchase what I can afford - something I think the recipient will enjoy - and if it's not fancy enough or expensive enough, that's their "issue" - not mine..

It makes me sad when people feel the way you do.. I'm sure that your FIL appreciates anything and everything you give him.. If he doesn't, that's his issue - not yours..

My brother always buys my mom a really expensive outfit for christmas every year. My mom is really more of a Kohls kind of gal, so its a real treat for her to get something out of the norm.

I know there is no way I can compete, so I just always buy her a Kohls gift card that she can use on the after christmas sales.

I don't even try to compete with other givers or the expectations of giftees.

In fact, we give little-to-nothing to the adults in our family, who are all in a position to buy themselves whatever they might want.
