HELP!! At Christmas we will have been together a little over 7 months :lovestruc I have no clue what to get them. We don't spend a lot of time with our parents together due to our distance (an hour away).

I want to get them something nice but don't know where to start...dbf isn't much of a help either, lol. He told me they must really love me...they got me something VERY nice for Christmas.

Any suggestions?

I don't know what they like or how old they are of course, but...I do know that my own parents have way more "stuff" than they need already and really don't want anymore. Another poster (on the no presents birthday thread) commented that a lot of people over 60 are currenly contemplating renting a dumpster to get rid of the clutter that has accumulated over the years. That was funny...and there's a certain kernal of truth in it!

If you know that they would enjoy a certain kind of show or sports event, maybe tickets for four, with the offer of going together or them chosing another couple to go with, whichever they prefer. The Nutcracker might be really cool, or some other ballet, a play, a comedian...you know, whatever you know that they would like.

Our standby for my parents is dinner gift cards. They enjoy going out to eat, and it's always nice to have a card in your wallet waiting to be used when you have the blahs and don't feel like eating/cooking at home. Pick their favorite place, or someplace they love but consider a big splurge...etc.

Best wishes. Whatever you decide, it sounds like you can't go wrong with them and they will love it because it came from you.

I would LOVE to receive tix to go to a play or game with DS & DDIL (I know it's not the same as son's GF of 7 months, but still...) I second the restaurant GCs too.

A nice gift basket with a theme is nice-to make!

I've found very inexpensive baskets at Walmart (sometimes in red or gold) and have done baskets for DH's clients.

Do like a pasta theme-an assortment of pastas, Gourmet Pasta sauce, cheeses, pine nuts, Bruchetta sauce, olives etc. Line the basket with a red and white checkered napkin-maybe add a wooden spoon:)

Oh I like that!!

Thank you all for the ideas!

I second the gift basket with a food theme, for them as a couple.

But if you need something for each of them individually, last year we had to shop for my daughter's boyfriend's parents. I got her some pretty notecards and a pair of nice candles, and I got him the Black & Decker battery powered scissors. They were both huge hits.

Great idea!

my boyfriend and i always give his parents something like, their favorite coffee from a local roaster or a gift certificate to a restaurant that they really enjoy. at least we know they're going to use it. his parents are very picky, so it's hard for me to find material things that they would like.

If you're working on a basket, you might want to check out Cost Plus World Market. They've got a lot of great, harder to find, edibles....

Awww we don't have that around here...I miss it!

I bought his mother's gift last night. She was born and raised in Kansas and I found this company online that sells stuff made and about Kansas. I bought her 3 small gifts (a wrought iron hanging, cookies from a baker in Kansas and a candle) I'm going to put a basket together.

I am working on his dad...who is a HUGE Marvin the Martian collector. I found a watch I am thinking about. Thanks again!!
