Christmas gift--Gameboy DS vs. SP

Looking for something for my DS for Christmas. He is almost 8 1/2. He has gamecube and we just got that a year ago, so we aren't looking for a big new system (besides he has his favorite games on it already, lego star wars 1 and 2!!). He got a Gameboy SP 3 years ago. He has about 12 games. His sisters have completely lost interest (DD#2 has an SP, DD#1 has the model just older than that) but when he notices it he still gets interested in it. Is it worth it to upgrade him to a DS? I notice most of the cool games now are only in the DS format. The only other thing he has asked for is Legos!
I swear the older they get the harder it is to buy for them--DD#1 (14 1/2) only wants clothes; DD#2 (11 1/2) wants a drum set!

I would say either one. There is the new DS lite also. My son has a DS and uses it more than the SP. The DS lite is on his Christmas list.

I think that the DS (or DS lite) would be a good upgrade from the SP. Just to be able to play a whole new set of games would be worth it. I would take a look at the DS specific games and see if there are any he would like. Does he have the Lego Star Wars game for the SP yet? It is available for the DS or GBA.

DS Lite.... that thing is C O O L ... with a capital C!
