I am trying to figure out what to get my DD7 for Christmas. I am debating between a cheap tablet like a Pandigital or a Nintendo 3DS. I know that's a strange choice, but there it is.

She already has a DS Lite and loves it, but I think she would like the camera and internet options on the 3DS. On amazon, it says the thing has netflix viewing capabilites. Is that true?

If I buy her a tablet instead, she can't play nintendo games on it, but she does still have her DS Lite. She would be able to take a tablet on the road with her, but she could only use her downloaded apps unless we have wi-fi. I would probably root the thing and see if I could put a netflix app on it. She currently has use of a desktop computer and my old smartphone (with no phone or texting activated on it. Basically an android "ipod touch")

What would you guys buy? Please don't suggest an ipad etc. My budget is about $150-$175.

My daughter is asking for the pink Nindento 3ds that comes out tomorrow. I'm hoping I'll actually be able to get one somewhere. Not sure what you should get your daughter. Does she play the nintendo games a lot? It seems like the 3ds can do a lot of cool stuff.

If you can go a bit higher, I would look at the Amazon Kindle Fire ($199) its a tablet and e-reader. Or, if you can find one somewhere, the Blackberry Playbook is on sale through today for $199.

If you can't stretch the budget that much, I would go with the Nintendo. From what I've read about the Pandigital tablets people seem to be disappointed with them.

The Fire is a good sugestion. I have looked everywhere for one of those Balckberry playbooks and have not been able to find one anywhere, so I don't think that option is going to work. Thank you for the suggestions. It gives me some new things to consider.

I know it is only a recommendation and I do not know the reasons, but the salesman at Best Buy advised the 3ds is not recommended for children younger than 8. Maybe some research as to the reasons before purchasing?
