ideally/traditionaly I would be staying home with just odds and ends to do but the pie shop I ordered a couple of specialty pies at is only filling their Christmas orders today and tomorrow so off to town we go...then a stop at the mall :scared1: but just to grab a single gift card and snag some cinnebons for christmas morning.

otherwise it's (thankfully) pretty low-key....pre slice mushrooms and onions for french dip sandwiches tomorrow night, pre boil macaroni to make Mac and cheese tomorrow. the younger son wants to make salted caramel brownies tonight so the house will smell really nice which I will enjoy between watch 'the Santa Clause' and observing dh and the older son endeavor to construct-

Today is cleaning the bathrooms and vacuuming day. Christmas Eve I will be doing the prep work for Christmas dinner. We have homemade lasagna for Christmas dinner, so I put it together the day before, plus I have a cherry pie to bake and possibly a pan of brownies. My weekend guests are driving over early Christmas morning since they work a full day Christmas Eve and thought the early morning traffic would probably be better (they are about an hour and a half from me). My shopping and wrapping are done and most of the cleaning is done, so for once I feel like I am on top of things (knocking on wood).

It's a odd season of life for us, for the first time since we got married we have no plans for Christmas Eve! We sometimes go out for breakfast or go to a movie and have always hosted a small family group on Christmas Eve, but this year all the family is coming over on Christmas Day. So I'm guessing a Christmas movie, some last minute straightening up and either a lunch out or a mid-day movie may happen. Bloody Mary's in the hot tub most likely!
I wrapped up every chore earlier today, picked up my oysters, hit the bank and make one more stop at the liquor store & grocery store. I'm done.

snag some cinnebons for christmas morning.

It's a simple thing, but we love Cinnabon rolls and we don't have one near us. For the past several years I've bought the 4 or 6 pack boxes at the stores when I'm near one, plus some extra icing. I wrap the boxes in tin foil and pop in freezer. Toss the icing in the freezer as well. Take out Christmas Eve night & leave on counter - heat up on Christmas morning and they are great! I've got two boxes in my freezer now!!!! I tried it on a lark a few years ago and was pleased they held up so well!!!

Canned cheese? That's a strange gift!
We've started a new tradition of having our Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve. Then on Christmas day, after opening gifts, we eat left overs, sit and play with and/or admire gifts, talk to family members living in different places, etc.

Today I finished my wrapping and canned 12 jars of sauce. I need to clean a bathroom which I’m trying to talk myself into doing.

Tomorrow I am going to make an eggnog cheesecake and maybe something else. I’ll also do some food prep for Christmas. DH and I go out for dinner on Christmas Eve.

Thanksgiving Redo. Our oven caught fire the day before Thanksgiving and my DD was bogged down in grad school work so we moved it (I am a big believer in redoing events if need be). Turkey is roasting in the oven. Last minute cleaning for company. Lifetime Xmas movie on the TV.

I'm at work today. No specific plans tonight but our weekend went kind of wonky (my dad was admitted to hospital for heart issues) so we ended up out of town unexpectedly. He is okay, but will follow up with a cardiac surgeon after the holidays. But that said I'm just catching up on the typical stuff that isn't Christmas related - laundry, cleaning.

We don't host anything at our house for Christmas nor do we go anywhere for Christmas day, so thankfully I don't really have any major food prepping to do. I did a grocery pick up yesterday with the items to make a breakfast casserole and some queso dip for the day to snack on, for Christmas Day. We will go to my parents on the 26th but in light of Dad's current health, we are keeping it simple and going out for a nice meal. No prep, mess stays there, etc.

My gifts are wrapped (I truly enjoy it so I have wrapped as I went throughout the month of December).

Honestly the saddest part to me is this month flew by and we haven't done anything "Christmas-y". I always try to plan an event to do as a family of 3... one year it was the Louisville Mega Cave lights show, one year it was Southern Lights at the KY Horsepark, etc. The plan was to get fancy hot chocolates and drive around last weekend and look at Christmas lights - but that didn't happen. The weekend earlier in the month we had free, my nephew graduated from college so we traveled to that. I'm not complaining. Just saying this year feels odd. I know these years happen but it just makes me a little sad.

This turned into a ramble, so I guess I should say thanks for listening :) And the short answer is this Christmas Eve Eve I'm not doing much :)

Oh, we had our oven catch fire a few years ago on Thanksgiving, so I know how that feels. Fortunately we had one of those countertop roasters to cook the turkey and a countertop smart oven for the sides and rolls, but it was quite the pivot to get everything done. The year before the dishwasher went out on Thanksgiving, also not fun. I think we were the only people visiting the appliance store two years in a row on Black Friday. Glad you are able to do a re-do!

Morning will be making the gluten free cinnamon rolls, cream cheese frosting, blueberry muffins for
Christmas morning. And marinating chicken for Christmas dinner. Get cookie trays ready.
DD will arrive after work tomorrow....and spend the night :yay:

I spent about 5 hours trying to finish up the shopping. I'm done except I can't find mittens for DD. They are the only thing she really asked for, and I feel really bad about not being able to get her a pair. I mean... it's winter in Maine, AND it's Christmas; why can't I find mittens anywhere?

No wrapping has even been started. I didn't think I had a lot to do but I am already voerwhelmed. I'm waiting for new glasses lenses so I can see, now that having had cataract surgery has changed my vision so much, but until things are clear I feel like I'm working in a fog all the time. It's slowed me down, for sure. Also, DH's car is not working properly, so having only one vehicle is also an issue at this time of year. Fortunately we don't have any Christmas plans or obligations until we need to be to DD's at 3pm on Christmas day, so I have plenty of time to wrap and organize. No idea wht we are having for supper either tonight or tomorrow, and DD is taking care of Christmas dinner. I'm bringing rolls and a blueberry crumb topped pie (from a local favorite bakery... I'm not even baking this year!)

Not sure if you have them up there, but my husband got me a great pair of very warm mittens last year at Tractor Supply for Christmas.

Good luck in your preparations (and healing!).

My plan for tonight after I get off work (7:00 pm) was to stop at the grocery store and grab a few things that I forgot over the weekend, stop and grab a gift card and lottery ticket, go home, feed the dogs and cats, and then sweep the floors, and mop the kitchen. However, my sister just asked if I could stop and take her to pick up her car from being serviced. That will push me back about 45 minutes. Looks like I'll be up super late tonight.

Had a Dr appt this AM, then since we were in town, went to Target to get a few things I needed to bake etc.
Currently, baking some cookies. Then will be making an easy dinner tonight of hot dogs and fries in the air fryer.

Tomorrow, DH will vacuum while I make homemade lasagna. We also have ham slices with it for Christmas Eve/Christmas Day dinner.

It's just DH and myself and the dogs, so we decided this year to just split the presents b/t both days and we'll have leftovers from tomorrow for Christmas Day as well. Just a chill holiday.
