Christmas eve dinner

No fish here. Interestingly, that custom is not widely spread in Italy at all, mostly in the southern poor sections of the country. It is a popular Italian-American tradition.

For tonight:
Lasagna
Salad
Roasted garlic and fresh bread
Scallops wrapped in bacon
Pies, pies pies
Trifle
some other stuff

DH is playing (trumpet) at a church this afternoon. Afterward, we're going out to dinner at a special restaurant we only go to on Christmas eve. Then home...I'm actually pretty well finished with wrapping and such.

For my little family of 4 we are having enough appetizers to feed an army. I way over bought! Then tomorrow my parents house with turkey, ham and all the fixings. I'll bring the mashed poatoes and a veggie casserole. Yum, yum!

We usually have finger foods or Chinese take out, but this year we are having venision - delivered to our table courtesy of my husband.

It turns out only 4 for dinner this evening--so I'm doing the Shrimp/Asparagus risotto that my gang likes....nice, easy, one pot :hippie:

We are having a ton of appetizers (pigs in blankets, shrimp cocktail, mini beef wellingtons, brie, pimento cheese spread etc), then at midnight we have bagels, lox, baked salmon, egg salad, tuna salad.

Christmas day is Shrimp cocktail, Prime Rib, Mashed potatoes, squash, basil carrots.

We usually get together with my mom, either her place or ours, and have a casual affair. We've done everything from pizza or sandwiches to lasagna. This year we are having meatballs, buffalo chicken dip, devilled eggs and some other munchies. We have a big meal with my in-laws Christmas day.

It's tradition to go over to my parent's house on Christmas Eve if we are in town. We're having sub sandwiches, chips and dip, little smoked sausages in BBQ sauce and brownies with ice cream for dessert.

New tastes this year, the whole family helped me cook today! For appetizers we are having baked artichoke dip with nachos and yummy veggie spinach dip with that swirl Rye and Pumpernickel bread. I just pulled the gloves off from scrubbing and soaking clams, oysters and mussels. I also have tilapia, haddock, calamari, shrimp and scallops. All will be baked in a green Spanish sauce in the oven then served over home made Spanish rice. I also made a back-up Pesto and back-up Zatarains just in case. Sides will be Escarole with Cannellini and a nice big salad.

Ohhh, and I really wanted to try 'mead' so DH found me some.

Christmas Eve is a huge feast at my house:santa::goodvibes We are off to watch Disney's Christmas Carol now:santa:

The in-laws will be over at 6... I think I'll start with the mead at 5:rotfl:

I really wanted to make homemade lasanga, but I've got kidney stones and they are giving me fits today.

My family and DH's family are all coming over tomorrow for Christmas dinner. DH is making the turkey, homemade rolls, and sweet potatoes, and everyone else is bringing a side dish.

I still have to do a dessert... or two.

My husband is working until late tonight. I sent in a big big batch of jambalya, cornbread and some Christmas cutout brownies dusted in powder sugar.

I saved some for myself for later tonight if I don't go visiting others.

Tomorrow we are having a feast for brunch before my husband goes back to work though!

Tonight we're heading to my brother's house. My parents will also be there. Each family is bringing a dish, an appetizer and dessert.

I know my mom is making finger sandwiches and my brother is making potato salad, I *think* sweet and sour keilbasa, and we're bringing a pot of homemade meatballs with italian bread, deviled eggs, soda and homemade chocolate fudge. It's sort of a mish mash of stuff. Lots of grazing all night long!!!

Then tomorrow we're heading over to my SIL's house. She usually makes the whole turkey/ham dinner with all the fixins but this year she's doing lasagna with salad and garlic bread. I'm bringing fudge and 7layer cookies.

It's just me and 13yo dd. So I am making my first turkey tonight. She wants turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and corn. I said ok even though the carbs will kill me.....LOL. I didn't make any sweets as she get plenty from her father and grandmother. I will start my baking on Monday as my sister is coming into town on Tues for a week. We will definitely eat well next week.

French onion soup, standing rib roast, king crabs legs, asparagus, cake.

I think we have appetizers of cheese and a artichoke dip.

Since it's just us and our grown kids, we'll have the good champagne tonight and have the regular champagne in the morning as mimosas.

Beef tenderloin with mushroom paté topped with a shallot demi-glace,

Roasted asparagus and cherry tomatoes with garlic and basil,

Twice-baked potatoes,

and

Chocolate cheesecake with a fresh raspberry and blueberry sauce.

We're just about to eat...and it smells really, really good :):cool1::thumbsup2
