Christmas Eve Dinner

We also do the heavy appetizers. It is my absolute favorite meal of the year and my mom started it when my sisters and I were little. Now there are husbands and grandchildren at my parents house and we eat things like:
seafood salad, sweet and sour meatballs, bacon rollups, big fruit platter, big veggie platter with dip, artichoke dip, stuffed mushrooms, wings and/or buffalo chicken dip, nachos and cheese. Every year there are a few additions but the ones listed are pretty much every year.

For dessert, one of my sisters and I usually bring cookie trays--we both bake and participate in cookie exchanges so there is usually a pretty good variety.

After we eat and clean up we usually play games. In the last few years we've started doing the gift exchange with my side of the family then as well.

We do a traditional ham/turkey dinner on Christmas Day at my house.

Last year, I invited our pastor & family over for Christmas Eve dinner. We went to early church and then ate. Since you never know how long the service will be, I knew it had to be something that couldn't be overcooked. I found a potato chowder recipe on-line. YUM it was wonderful. Everyone loved it.

Way back, we used to do the Italian traditional fish dinner, but found it was too much work with evening mass. So now we eat after church and always have a BIG Italian antipasto consisting of Genoa Salami, Capricola, Pepperoni, Provolone Cheese, Ham, Prosciutto, Turkey, Roasted Red Peppers, Hard Boiled Eggs, Asparagus, Black Olives, (I think that's everything), along with a couple of crusty loafs of Italian Bread.

I am drooling... that sounds so good!

This year we are going to do an open house also. I'm going to make a few differn't types of soups, chili and salads. Have baskets of fresh breads and a dessert buffet of Christmas cookies, candies and a hot chocolate/ coffee bar.:santa: We going to hang out at the house, play the Wii and then go to midnight mass.:santa:

We are doing something different this year. Our favorite Chinese resturant will be open on Christmas eve and Christmas day. so we are renting some Christmas movies, getting our pj's on and having Chinese delivered! :woohoo::yay::dance3:
It is a big deal for us, we usually have traditional fish dinner.

Lots of people around here have tamales on Christmas Eve (Texas), and that's what I would LOVE to do. Unfortunately, we're usually celebrating with either my family or my DH's family so we end up doing the big dinner about 5 times before it's all over. I end up being very sick of turkey and ham since that's all we have for almost a solid week.

We do appetizers and desserts for Christmas Eve dinner.

My sister and I have already planned what we are bringing. I'm going to make bacon wrapped water chestnuts and mozza sticks. My sister bought a shrimp ring and smiley fries. My mom will probably make cornish pasties. Not sure what my other sister will bring. I'm also going to make up a hotdog croissant roll for my niece that's lactose intollerant. Now we need to figure out what we are having for dessert.

We too usually do heavy appetizers. This year I think it will just be three of us...our oldest daughter works at Applebee's and has to work that night. We might go there and sit in her section...at least we'll all be together for a few moments! :rotfl:
