Christmas Decorations less this yr?

I have been going to WDW every year in Dec. since the early '90's. Just got back from a stay at GF Dec. 6-12. The Christmas decorations are less each year. I don't know if it's $$$$ or PC or both.

Not unless they did it back when they had resort specific mugs, and even then it would've been quite a long time ago, because the last time I got a resort specific mug was in December 2006 (which was the last year they had them) and it wasn't Christmasy. I do however have a mug that I got on either that trip or my trip in Dec 2007 that I got by paying maybe $2 more for a drink at a quick service place, and it's Christmasy. Maybe that's what you're thinking of?
that could very well be.

YES! So glad to see that I'm not the only one who felt there were much fewer decorations this year....everywhere. We were at WDW Dec 6-9. We stayed at the Boardwalk and visited the other Epcot resorts and, outside of the main lobbies, there were fewer decorations throughout the resorts. Even the parks...especially Epcot and Studios. Some areas there you would have been hard pressed to know that it was the Christmas holiday season. Of course we had a great time, but we sure missed the full holiday feeling.

I am a regular December visitor. There are less decorations every year. For those of you that want specifics, I went back and looked at some old pictures. Epcot has a LOT fewer in the paths leading up to the fountain. In the past they had those poinsettia tree things and many poinsettia flower beds. This year there were not there! I went to the Christmas party last year after not going for several years. They used to put up extra decorations for the party, but no more. It does not ruin our trip, but it is sad that Disney is cutting back so much on the decorations.

it is sad that Disney is cutting back so much

That's more the essence of the situation, year-round.

Very sad, and for no reason other than nobody in authority seems to understand that so many guests love the DETAILS.
Those special things that set the Disney experience apart from the chaff of the other parks.

Careful if you notice too much of a decline reprimands come swiftly!;)

We were there Dec. 10-15. We spent an evening resort hopping to look at the decorations. I wasn't impressed. We were staying at AKL - no gingerbread display outside of Boma like there was at one time, although the lobby is beautiful. No gingerbread display at the Poly either - there used to be. I was underwhelmed at the Cont. The WL and the GF still looked beautiful. BC had a nice gingerbread display. YC had the train garden. The BW had a shop and cutouts to put your head in.

I know why they were removed, and wasn't debating whether they look better now or then...but a wreath plus garland is more quantity over just a wreath. Hence less.

and didn't the refillable mugs used to be holiday themed around Christmas? not really a decoration, but something to get in a Christmas mood?

We've been getting the plastic Christmasy character mugs every year for a while now, have a bunch of them, and even got more that one in some years, I think. But, this year I didn't find any, except the cool one they had for the Osborne lights this year, with Mickey on it, but that was it. I was wondering if we just missed them somehow this year or if they really didn't have any this year! Anyone see any of them to purchase this year?

Here now and before I saw this thread, I had commented to my DH that there were fewer decorations than I remembered from previous trips. Im still enjoying them but there are definitely not as many, and while some are obvious, like the LoW, others are more subtle.

We were at WDW from 12/5 through 12/12. My wife and I both commented that the Christmas decorations seemed underwhelming as compared to our trip 4 years ago. Still very pretty but just less so in both the parks and resorts.

We have been going to WDW for Christmas in Nov/Dec since my son was in first grade, he is now 20.. so MANY trips... hence my name "DisneyNDecember".
We have not been the last 2 years. I tend to notice the smallest things (a bit of an OCD).
Yes, the decorations have subtly been cut back every year. We have not been in the past 2 years due to trying other things.
We took our 1st Christmas cruise Dec 7, 2015 on the Disney Dream, it was great!

I remember when my son was in elementary school, there were so many lights !!!!
In the trees thru out MK, in the EPCOT trees as you walk from country to country, every tree was covered in lights. The EPCOT arch that played music & lights danced ---- I so miss that.

Poinsettias thru out Magic Kingdom, the parks, & the resorts.

It is still beautiful, but every year, since they took down the Epcot arch/Dancing Lights display.... it has been less & less.

The lights thru out all the parks in the trees really stands out to me.

It is still beautiful, love the smells, the feeling that the Christmas decorations give me when we do go...... but it does seem less & less to me every year.

Now on the Disney Dream, they had Christmas songs & decorations everywhere. The attention to detail was AWESOME for me, I LOVE Christmas lights & decorations.
They EVEN had Christmas music in the bathroom stalls------ I know.... most folks would not notice this, but I thought it was awesome. :)

Less?
Yes.

And, NEXT year MUCH less, after the loss of the Osbourne Lights.

Maybe they are slowing moving the decorations from the parks/resorts to their boats.

Wow, I have not been on this thread in a while, been spending all my time on the DCL forums.
They are removing the Osbourne Lights next year?
Geez............. this is horrible.

This year is the last year for the Osborne Lights (no "u") because they're tearing down the Streets of America for Star Wars Land.
