Is it really worth a short weekend trip to drive to Disneyland to veiw it in all its christmas splendor. It seems like it is starting late this year :confused3

Yes! Yes! And Yes!!!

It is absolutley gorgeous then. We go every year just to see the decor. And this year the snow effect is supposed to be all the way down Main Street to the big Christmas Tree. The fireworks also change out to Holiday ones, with snow falling afterwards. Love it!

If you have the chance...............go for it!! :cloud9:

You couldn't pay me enough to skip DLR during the Holiday season. It is a truly magical, wonderful and special time of the year.

Yes, it will be crowded, but the crowds add to the fun and excitement. IASW and HMH are not to be missed and the Christmas fireworks and snowfall are truly my favorite thing at DL!

Also, if you have little ones (and even if you don't) the Santa at Big Thunder Ranch is phenomenal... truly one of the very best out there!

YES!!!
I also agree, if you can go, GO!!

We will be there with our newborn.

Im skipping the halloween trip this year because were due at the end of the month :(
but were not skipping the X-mas trip!!

How do you find out when the decorations are up?

Christmas decorations will be up from 11/14/08 thru 1/4/09. For everyone who's going, have fun! :santa:

Christmas fireworks and parade start Nov 21st!

Yes, go! It's so worth it! Last year was my very first time there for the holidays and its truly amazing. :goodvibes :goodvibes :santa: :santa:

And the holiday food and merchandise - let's not forget all of that! Mustn't ignore the snacks and knick-knacks

It seriously is the MOST magical time to be at DLR - fake Christmas tree or not!!! That is not a cliche! There is something extra special in the air, and at night, when everything is lit up (llike the exterior if IASW holiday and the Castle, for example), it is just stunning. Breathtaking. I was just there last weekend (trip report link in my signature below), and while I DO love the Halloween stuff, there is nothing that compares to Christmas time at DLR. Even just walking into the GCH lobby and seeing the beautiful tree is special. DTD is all decked out too. You can't miss it, no matter how crowded it is. If I had a choice of only one day in a year to go to DLR, I would choose a day in December (plus, the weather is much cooler and it is nice and crisp!). It is not to be missed!

The Christmas Tree at DL is real!!! It is the only real tree used in all of the Disney parks.

I went on a Christmas tour last year, and learned alot of stuff. I wish I had written down some of the info........ like how many lights are used on the tree, on IASW and on the castle. :headache:

I know it has been a real tree all the way up through 2007, but isn't it known that this year it will be fake? I read that on DISboards somewhere! In any case, I am sure we won't even be able to tell the difference and they will make it look great but I liked the idea of a giant real tree every year. I wonder if this means the trees around the DLR hotels, DTD and in DCA are all fake too.... In any case, the holiday season is not to be missed!

Sherry,
I also heard that the tree is going to be fake this year. It is too bad! I know it is not for environmental reasons, because a real tree is actually better for the environment than an enormous plastic one that will have to be replaced. I heard that it is for fire safety reasons, but who knows?

They are going to extend the snow effect from the castle (not the snowfall bubbles--the twinkling lights) all the way down mainstreet, so that is something new as well. That should be very pretty.

Oooooh! That will be pretty! Last year was the first year I saw the snow effect on the Castle - not sure how long they had been doing it but I hadn't been to DLR for six years until 2007 - and it was really beautiful to look at at night! I think it could look spectacular if they extend it all the way down Main Street. The whole Main Street area always looks extra-magical when it is lit up at night anyway, so the snow effect could only enhance it. The only thing is that the snow on the Castle didn't look as special in the daytime, up really close. It looked better from afar, at night. I actually wish they COULD dump the snow bubbles on the WHOLE park - at least DL, if not DCA - and not just Main Street. I think that would be hilarious but also could be kind of cool!!! In any case, I have to see the decorations!!!

You see, it never fails. As soon as I leave DLR, I want to go back. I was just at DLR last weekend, and I was tired and my leg hurt and I was just feeling like my brain turned to mush because I couldn't think of anything to do that my friend would agree to (read my "Lost at the World of Disney: trip report, link is below in signature), and she wanted to rest and sit down a lot... and the whole thing was just getting kind of 'old.' It wasn't DLR's fault. It was just that stage you reach where you are just tired of thinking, tired of talking, tired of walking, tired of crowds, tired of lines, can't think of anything to do even though you have barely done anything and there are TONS of things to do... and I hit that point. But I tell you, we didn't spend enough time there. I didn't do half of the things I wanted to do because we just didn't have enough time. And as soon as I left DLR last Sunday, I was dying to get back ASAP! I HAVE to get there around Christmas - that is just too much magic to pass up on! I know some people think that staying at DLR for a week is too long because there are only two parks and how could you fill your time in a whole week, but let me tell you, after last weekend's experience with a 3-night hotel stay and only two days in the park, I realize the benefits of being there for a longer period of time. You need that rest, you need to pace yourself, you need to spread things out, you need to not let it get to overkill point but still be able to have time to take in all the little details and snow bubbles and that sort of thing.

Absolutely worth it!! It's my favorite time of year at Disneyland, and we will be there for 2 weeks this year!!! (Not in the park every day, but coming and going as we please & staying in Anaheim for 2 weeks)

I absolutely LOVE the Disneyland Christmas decorations! I definitely would NOT miss that. It is totally worth a visit, even if it is a short one.

When I walk down Main St. I get all teary-eyed because first off, Disneyland is magical but add in Christmas cheer and it's amazing. You can just feel the happiness.

OOOO, I can't wait!
