Christmas decoration ideas

We will be arriving at FW on 12/24. We are driving our pop up down from Chicago and are trying to pack light. I really would like Christmas decorations at our site but have no idea about the process I could use. I saw on another board that there are tree exchanges through DVC members but haven't seen anything for FW. Any suggestions? I don't want to feel left out since we will be there until after the new year.

Haven't heard of any tree exchanges at the Fort.
Maybe a really small tree, or some outside lights that take up very little space.

I doubt that it exists because people tend to keeptheir decorations from year-to-year.

We have a 21' hybrid and 2 dogs, so not a lot of space either.

I pack a little tabletop tree (lights already on it) and this year I'm squeezing in a box full of lights to put on the camper. They don't weigh much and don't take up a ton of room (I can squeeze all of this stuff under one of the dinette seats)

Considering the size/impact when setup, inflatables might be a good way to go if space is tight. I love seeing all the new ones that pop up (literally!) from year to year.

Wow, thank goodness space isn't an issue for us. But, if space is an issue for you....their's a Walgreens or CVS or something around the corner from Disney, so you can pick up some things there like a table top tree etc. if you can afford to wait to get once your down here. Otherwise, some suggestions for stuff you can bring that don't take up a lot of space is: Christmas lights (remember to bring extension cords) and one main center peice of some sort. Blow up's are nice and pretty easy to pack. Anything form the discount store is cheap and you can get it down here and then toss it, so you won't have to take it back.

Maybe next year I'll take some pictures of my site decorated to share.

Now, if anyone could just tell me how to get the rope Mickey head in the air, let me know. LOL!

One thing weve done is to buy poinseetias while in Orlando, enjoying them while at the fort, then give them to neighbor when it's time to leave. I think its a great way to share the Christmas spirt.

Thanks for the great ideas. We have quite a few of the blow up decorations at home but don't use them anymore because the neighborhood bullies come be and cut them. DH has spent hours sewing them back up. Anyhow, maybe they can be put to good use at the fort.

Oh I like that one...just becareful though giving it to folks with pets as I think they maybe posionious if injested.

I used to have a little 18" fiber optic tree that I used in the camper but one year I bought one of those Disney Christmas tree hats with dangling characters and battery operated lights. I use that now and I love it. It collapses down pretty flat for travel and then I fluff it up and stand it up as our tree.

If you don't mind going a wee bit further, there is a huge Walmart and a Super Target on the main drag in Kissimmee too.

Another thought...
Ship a box of stuff to FW ahead of time. Lights are pretty lightweight and shouldn't cost much too ship.

And if it's not anything too expensive and you're not worried about bringing it all home, pass it along to someone else before you leave.

That Kissimmee Wal*Mart is where we buy our poinsettias, probably the cheapest place to get 'em. I also heartily endorse inflatables. We have two huge inflatables that we bring (7' Mickey Santa and huge Mickey & Minnie snow-globe) and they make a big impact for a small sacrifice in cargo space. The area under the sofa in our small MoHo is dedicated to the decorations: lights, inflatables, two "neon" palm trees and a few Christmas plushes for the dash. I hope to add a site sign (or two) and maybe some spun snow for the dash this year. I'm also on the lookout for an inflatable Christmas tree. I also pack plenty of extension cords and a yard stake with photo-sensor to turn on the lights at dusk (the inflatables stay up all the time). I may bring the bubble machine too and put it on the roof... it kinda looks like snow. Oh, and don't forget the Mickey & Minnie Santa hats... can you tell I'm getting excited?!

Ok, too cool! I'm from NH and we have plenty of the real thing here (especially last year!) but I always get a HUGE kick out of seeing "snow" in FL.

We'll be on the lookout for you on our nightly golf cart tours.

Disney outlet has some Christmas lights that would be great on your awning, choose from Pooh and Princesses . The Mickey wreath is pretty cool also.

I picked up some nice LED lights from costo and keep them in the camper all year long. Even have a set up on the patio at home....

I also picked up a couple sets of MM lights during halloween, they had just rolled out the xmas stuff.

We thought we had plenty of Christmas decorations until we arrived at the Fort and quickly saw that you can never have too many Christmas decorations at the Fort.

We were in loop 1600 last Christmas next to a RV that had a complete Christmas Wonderland on his site. We were stunned when we arrived, grew to truly enjoy how Fort campers truly share their Christmas spirit with all.

I bought a skinny 5ft pre-lit Christmas tree at Wal-mart that sits on a small table in the camper and hung pre-lit Christmas bough around the rim of the slide out. Both store under one of the dinette benches. That may be an option for you. We hung our stockings from the Christmas bough and decorated the tree with mostly handmade Disney ornaments. Outside, we had our Christmas String lights and our Mickey lamppost decorated for Christmas...but it didn't compare to RVs around us.

If you can't bring many decorations, it's ok. One of our best experiences last Christmas was driving the golf cart through all the loops enjoying all the decorations and visiting with other campers. It's truly a festive atmosphere.
