I know they tape the parade that is shown Christmas Day the first weekend in December, but I have a couple of questions.

We were told by a CM that only CM's and their family members are at the taping, and that taping begins at 5am. Can this be true? It's still dark in Orlando at 5am on December 4th. How can they tape? And I thought that all guests could go to the taping. Anyone know for sure? Anyone been there?

2nd question...Is the parade they show on TV the same parade they have during each night at the MVMCP?

Thank you all for you answers!
Lori

They start taping about 7am and there is a web site that you can go to apply to be an extra for the parade, not sure tho what that site is. They also do alot of taping throughout the parks where you can just walk up. We
actually saw Wynonna Judd in front of the castle last year and also saw the girl from American Idol(can't remember her name)

The parade that is shown on tv is a special parade, there are floats from all 4 parks and also floats and segments from the christmas parade.

Regis and Kelly were set up across from Caseys. To be honest with you it was neat to see them and catch some of the parade taping but to watch Wynonna in front of the castle was really cool.

Do they tape each parks segments on the same day? We arrive Dec.2nd, leave Dec.10, so we might like to be there, especially if we could see something like you did!
So, were you there as a CM or CM family member, or is it possible for us civilians to get in, too??

THANKS
Lori

The taping lasts most of the day, so the general public can get in and stand along the parade route. It's not as great as it sounds. On TV, it looks like a regular parade. But in reality during the taping, it is very slow. They keep retaking shots of the different floats.

We were there during taping last Dec. We meet people who were taped but we did not see them on Christmas morning. We went on Saturday to the MK. It was very crowded and hard to get around. We then avoided the MK until filming was done.

pirate: The parade portion was very difficult to see and IMO not worth the aggrevation. The cool part was watching them tape the performances, one of my all time favorite Disney moments was watching Wynonna Judd sing "O Holy Night" with my DW and my DS (7 yrs) on my shoulders

They had the volunteers there at 7 AM. There was a website to sign up. You got free entry into the park that day.

It is a lot of standing around and a few minutes of a float going by. You yell and scream, clap and then they tell you if was good or that they have to do it again.

I did 2 days of taping and enjoyed it. It was cool the days they taped but they told us to pretend it was warm at MK.

You won't the whole parade, just small parts of it.

Anyone can stand and watch. In fact they make announcements to the crowd and anyone walking by that they can stand and watch.

Was THAT what it was? We were there right after Thanksgiving through the first week in December last year and the day we went to Magic Kingdom, it was all roped off and signs were up telling you that they wuld be taping through, I think, 3:00. The weirdest thing was that most of the people on Main Street were dressed in red and green. The CMs made you take the "detour." The "detour" meant you had to walk through about 5 shops, be rushed along the sidewalk, and not be able to cross the street. I remember later in the day we were coming back from Casey's and there was a guy singing in some foreign language I didn't know. And the weirdest thing was, they kept stopping and telling them "That was good, let's go again." An at one point the director-y guy was asking where everyone was from through a mega phone. My whole clan was VERY confused.

If you are at MK first weekend of December -- especially first Saturday -- you will enter MK through the gift shops on the west side of Main Street & not up Main Street itself as it is blocked off. Strategy that works: whichever way the crowd is being "steered" from "The Hub" -- go the opposite direction. We saw everyone moving toward Tomorrowland & we swung to Adventureland & there was no one there! Positively no one at Thunder or Splash. Also note: If weather is bad first weekend of December, filming will be delayed until the weather is terrific. Always sunny at WDW, right?!
