Christmas Cruising 2005

I looked online, on the same level as Mom and I were it was about $1,000 per adult. I intended to go with my hubby, no kids...what'cha got in mind? :boat:

Can you come to NC at all, starting around Sept 9th? Rose emailed me her dates for the trip just today :) We are booking a house for two weeks-come have a Corona with us while we watch the sun go down and the stars go by

:wizard: Prayers, Hugs and Pixie dust for you and your family Nan...

and Aisling, and Dede and John and Chad and Jesse and Mel and Paul and Wilson and Molly and Mom and Tori and Tyler and Sharon and Dom and Karen and Tara and Kayla and Jim and Rieanne and Lynn and Keith and Kris and Dan and Marcus and Hailey and Jack and all my other fellow Christmas Cruisers out there...lurking...~LYMI~ :grouphug:

Nan, the raspberry lips place sounds cool. I think it would be neat to open up a place like that here, and throw princess parties or hair/makeup parties for girls.

Hey Dede - maybe reconsider the paralegal thing, and consider life as an entrapeneur - you could maybe open a Rasberry Lips franchise in AZ.

I think the chicken has lost his head.... :rolleyes1

The real story is he lost his post from last night. I was working on my new clients laptop (in front of the tv  :cheer2: ) into the database thru a VPN and Paul was on the Dis board....he crafted his post and the board went down...

Paul "what's wrong with this message, what do I do?"
Nan "hit the back button"
Paul " I did allready"
Nan "welcome to the club you lost your post"
Paul "that's it, I'm not dising anymore"
Nan "you're a chicken"

Hi Paul and Nan :wave2:
You guys are so cute.

I've been looking into doing Universal in the fall. We always stay onsite, and the hotels are great. The front-of-the-line access is so worth it. And then do the NYE Magic for 2007, with a week at WDW. All I need is the $$$! Our Universal vacations always cost a lot less than WDW. Chad's might be doing a semester abroad next year, so we have to see how to fit everything in.

We're all sick with colds here, really bad coughs. What I wrote above is a result of my illness-related delirium, I think! TGIF tomorrow. :cheer2:

Aisling's right, you two are cute
 Hi Paul, Hi Nan

and Aisling, delirious or not it sounds like a lovely plan :boat:

Feel better soon my friend

I got a hot date tomorrow :hyper:

Hubby is taking the day off so we can go out to a movie and have lunch together

~TTFN~

hey guys, I've got that cold in the head too, yuckie.

so dad update. his doctor called me today (after asking dad of course) to confirm that he needs to do his rehab down here, since my mom is EXHAUSTED and needs her family to help her out. Finally someone has gotten him to get that in his head. So, plan is for me to find the place tomorrow, most likely the same place he stayed a few years back when he was recouping from his last illness. I think I may not go up with Lee, 2 of the boys (her son & our nephew) will join her. Hopefully I'll have a bed for him in rehab by the time they get here, maybe Sunday or Monday.

house update, seller's agent repsonded to our agent's request of what's up with I'll have info on the 24th. Time to wait...again....

Maybe I'll get Paul to take a drive over this weekend to sneak some pictures. I wish I could see your faces when you see this house...Kris, I keep saying to myself, "I don't think you can buy a house in NE for 1.4 mil" :rotfl2: It's so ridcoulous, but we have decided that if we can get it we really need to make every effort to do it. We really want to be in HMB and I want to have a house/location that makes me happy for those stinking prices.

Time to say goodnight for tonight,

Nan

Dede, how's the new house coming along?

I'm not Dede, but I can answer :teeth:

The house is finally starting to come along:

They will dry-wall and stucco within the next couple of days. We're still having 'cabinet issues' though. They are taking away the huge kitchen drawers we loved and replacing them with 2 small drawers due to the new cabinet maker. When asked about it, the sales lady get's really defensive and starts rambling on how they are exactly the same but 'more expensive!!!'. It's a round-and-round kind of thing:

Dede: I'm concerned about the new cabinets
Crazy Lady: But they're EXACTLY the same! You wouldn't have even noticed the difference if we hadn't told you.
Dede: They aren't the same - the drawers are different
Crazy Lady: But they're more expensive!!!
Dede: I don't care, I want the old drawers
Crazy Lady: But they're exactly the same.
Dede: No the old cabinets had big drawers, the new ones have 2 small drawers.
Crazy Lady: But it's more expensive to have 2 smaller drawers!!!

Other than that, it's going well. The builder is doing a very high quality job. They've fixed all the things I've found wrong - even going as far as pouring a new patio because of what was a fairly minor thing.

They're saying it will be done end of March, so that probably means mid-April, which will make it a whole year :earseek:

grim pirate:

John, maybe that sales lady is related to our crazy seller's agent :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

It is so exciting to see your house  :cheer2:

For some reason I had a 2 story in my mind....love the signle story  and love the look   room for us to visit? :confused3 Pool in the back yard? :cool1:

ok, it is very crisp and sunny here I'm going to see if I can get Paul to play a bit of hookey and go the beach for an hour or so....wish me luck!!!

N

I would talk directly to the cabinetmaker, is that possible?

maybe he hears better than your sales/contact person - crazy lady :faint:

Besides the cabinets I bet you two are rather relieved to see your new home come along as far as it has :cloud9:

We like our home...John's grandmother did all the work, all's we have to do is maintain. The gardens are perfect, the trees are gorgeous, the inside has been done up very nicely. Of course maintenence in itself is a challenge when owning a home huh?

Nan, enjoy the beach...truly one of my fav places in the world to be, after Disney of course ;)

:scratchin isn't that WHY you want HMB?

I would do it - don't second guess yourself on this house my friend. It's perfect. You get it at a great price - even at 1.4 million dollars - cause you can turn that into a 5 million dollar home by the time the kids graduate...princess: pirate:

Don't think that would matter - the builder is the one placing the order. I'm sure the cabinet maker has big drawers (he he!), the builder just isn't ordering them. The joys of a tract home...

The next one will be custom - I was pretty good with Lincoln Logs in my day...

grim pirate:

She's a doofus!

and your cabinetmaker has Big Drawers :earseek:

I actually studied cabinetmaking for 3 years in vocational school...I got a job in the field and quickly found out it is truly a man's world and I'm still a girl princess:

I am happy that I can use my abilities around our house. When we moved in our cabinets had been painted almost to black. I saw that there was solid blonde oak behind that paint and stripped and urethaned all of them back to the original wood color.

When John's G'Mom passed the house was almost done. There are some areas where the molding wasn't finished and I have the pleasure of finishing it. The wood is even here in the house so I matching it was never an issue. The only thing I lack is time...I seem to be spending alot of it in Florida lately :duck:

When are you planning on doing the Magic 2007? I am 99.9% sure we are doing it in Christmas time..as usual!

Hi all!

Paul, I love the idea of owning my own business, but its really scary to think about the start up. Maybe I'll get the guts someday. This end of town would actually probably be a great place to start something like that. There's pretty much nothing out this way.

Aisling- as Grim showed you, the house is coming along very well. Yes, I'm peeved about the cabinets. What bothers me the most is how we kept getting told that they were going to be exactly like the cabinets from the first company, and now that its obvious that they're not, they've changed their tune to "as close as humanly possible", which doesn't look very close at all to me. Anyway, as long as they hold my kitchen stuff, I guess I can live with them. Grim says that maybe we can at least get the drawers redone so that they're wide instead of the little ones they're sticking us with now.

I have so enjoyed looking at everyone's pictures. What a trip, and now we have all the pictoral memories we could have ever asked for.

Tig, you definitely have a gem of a husband. Grim likes to act like he can't cook, but he's really good at it. He says he'll cook in the big new kitchen, but we'll see.

Oh and speaking again of the new house, we'd love it if people came to visit us. Just don't come in the summer until we get the pool. Unless you like feeling like you're in a toaster oven. :rotfl:

Kris, we will be eagerly awaiting your pictures. Hope school's going well for you. I'm ready for Spring Break! :rotfl2:

Nan- you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. My Mom and Aunt just went through the whole nursing home dilemma with my grandfather back in July. It was very hard, but in-home care wasn't working, so they put him in a home closer to the both of them. He was very angry for a while, but deep down he knew it was for the best, I hope.

Well, I'm wiped out. Very long, trying week. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

::MinnieMo Dede

Thanks for the kind words Dede. Today brings us somewhat good news. Dad's doctor decided it was time to talk to one of his children (which was me) to make sure we knew how wiped out mom was by caring for dad. DUH!!! If you have a 2x4 hit my dad on the head with it, ok? So that's the short story, with the note that he agreed to come down here for rehab hopefully 2-4 weeks, mom will stay at Lee's. Now he just needs to get well enough to travel down. We put off going up this weekend, he isn't ready just yet. Maybe mid week we'll go get them. Hopefully they will agree to assisted living now that they are down here.

So, better news. I'm planning the next vacation.

Mini vacation for now. There is a new American Girl store opening up in LA in April. Molly wants to have a small (ha ha) party with just 2 friends there. Our Las Madres/babyhood friends, Nora(daughter) &Tamsen(mom) & Hannah(daughter) & Patty(mom). It's started out to be girls & moms weekend trip, but I feel sad for the boys not coming (each has a brother, to match Wilson of course), so now it's girls & moms head down on Friday, AG all day on Saturday, then the boys (& dads) show up as a suprise late at night after they drive down Saturday and see the Dodgers game Sat night. We all have AG brunch on Sunday, then part ways (I'm going to try to sneak in a few days with the mouse of course...wish me luck with Paul on that one)

I think we won't go in Feb, but you know me, never say never...my girlfriend that went with me last summer might be up for it again...it's buy an adult tic get a kid free. That just made me think....hmmm I might get my nephew to come along....he loves dland and Wilson (he is 28) nice to have big boys around to drive :goodvibes

man am I rambler today. I better post in case I lose it....

Nite for now,

Nan

p.s. I'll visit AZ in winter or when the pool comes :rotfl2:

WOW :goodvibes: That's Fantastic news Grim and Dede :cheer2: Congratulations and lots and lots of Pixie Dust pixiedust: I bet you're on :cloud9:
 Lynn and Keith

:cool1: :thumbsup2 :goodvibes   :lovestruc :sunny: :cloud9: :woohoo: :yay: :yay: :yay:
SOOOO happy for you both! (We can relate--Jack was the result of Fiesta Bowl 1999!) Does that change the job scenario any, Dede? :confused3

Been a bit nuts around here...things going every night and I am STILL trying to get Xmas stuff down! But I booked a Southern Living party for Friday night, so I GOTTA get it all down, put in storage, and this house given a good cleaning by then. (I've always said I need to entertain every couple of weeks just to get my house cleaned good each time! Guess I could afford a cleaning lady for what I would spend in party expenses!!!!) I was gonna get it done today...but a VERY late night last night has me zonked today. I don't even think I have the energy to type! :surfweb:

All this house talk...was at a friend's new house last night. It is a gorgeous house & looked huge from the outside, but the first floor felt considerably smaller than ours...Tig mad a good point...that $1.4mill. house will only increase in value--SIGNIFIGANTLY--for you. That is TOP end around here (there may be none on the market, but I am sure you can build one for that...MIL's in Hastings--pop. 20K--was probably about $1M w/ all the bells & whistles). BUT while housing seems to increase at about 6%/year in newer neighborhoods, I don't know that you would be guaranteed that kind of return at the upper end. Plus, best view here are golf courses, or a few small lakes not too far from Lincoln. I LOVE our house & our neighborhood. Good thing, cuz I love a change...but no reason to. That's OK, I can spend my $ on travel! :woohoo:

Speaking of travel...(OK, obviously I am coming up w/ the energy to type! :p ) Mom just got a deal from Bally's the week of my birthday...if they will let her book the room w/ her rate for us, we will get 4 nights for about $250 (TOTAL)--plus airfare for about $200pp. That total is about what KC was gonna cost us...so we are seriously considering it. (well, I am, Dan has been snoozing all morning!) I brought up NYC, but Dan grimaced (FUNNY since that was his original plan he was going to do!). I think that's gonna hafta be a girls only trip! princess:

Nan--prayers on the Dad thing. My teammate has been dealing w/ a very elderly mother out of town for years...it can be very draining. But you do the best you can...

Tig--how was the date?

Well...hope everyone is having a good weekend!!!!
Kris
