Christmas Cruise on the Wonder - 12/23/07

draamamom~ We're in a GTY category cabin too, and I haven't heard anything yet. But I do keep checking the DCL website to see if we've been assigned one. I've read on the boards that often that's the first place you can find out.

Some cruise lines won't "berth" their ships (shuffle people up from GTY, and upgrade others) until about two weeks before the sail date, but I'm not sure about DCL since this is the first time we've done a GTY with them.

Thanks! Most of the threads I've seen on here say they usually know about 30 days away, so I figure it will be around Thanksgiving, but maybe longer. I just have to keep checking!! Like I said, though, I'm impatient.

One think I have been thinking about, and maybe a possibilty for Simba2002, is to mail a box to the port with my presents and you could probably get a small tree there that way, too. My only concern is that it won't get there. But it seems from others on the main page that they've been successful having things shipped. Anybody have any thoughts?

We live close to the port, so we are driving there. Do you think we can bring a box? DO you think it will count as a piece of luggage on the ship??

I have a question about bringing your own Christmas tree. Do you place it in a suitcase or can you carry it in a box? We have a Little Disney Princess one that we always set-up in my DD playroom. If I brought that it would save $100!!!! I just do not know how hard it is to get it on the ship. We will be driving to port so that is not an issue. :wizard:
We've done both. One in the suitcase and one "carry it in a box". We have a mini tree that fits in my suitcase along with a container of ornaments and trim. The larger one we just checked as a piece of luggage on the plane. This was for our room at the VWL.

For the ship, they'll just take all your luggage (which could include a box with a tree) at the drop off point and then it's all delivered to your stateroom. Given the amount of stuff I've seen people drop off on previous cruises, I can't imagine a box with Christmas stuff would be any kind of problem.

I've read people have shipped things successfully as well (so that's an option) but I'd rather not add the shipping cost when I can check it on the plane and then just drop it off with my other luggage.

I wouldn't recommend carrying it on yourself since you'll have no place to put it until your stateroom is available, which could be a couple of hours depending on when you arrive.

Thank you for the information. I am really thinking about bringing the little DIsney tree Now. That would save $100 to spend on something else. I will probably still do the decoration of the room. Has anyone had this done and is it worth the $30???:santa:

I'm in A GTY and they told me I might not even know my room until like 2 weeks prior. It make me nervous-- but my travel agent is awesome. She'll hook me up.

On the Stateroom decs-- I've done it... and as long as you don't have a super tall husband (like mine), it's great. I loved it, but he kept running into it. It makes great scrapbooking material after your trip.

30 days!!

We are going as well - I was not able to get online the few weeks. We have been planning since Feb. - I cannot believe it is here!! My family inlcudes my DH, DD15 and DS9. This is our first cruise. We are then staying at WDW until Jan. 4. The kids have no idea - we are planning to tell them as their last present the last night of Hannuka.... (by giving them the guide books - I can see their faces now - books???? that is not a fun present...).

What a wonderful idea! I am trying to decide how to surprise my DH with the cruise. We are staying at WDW first, then I will give him the present at WDW. Any ideas?:santa:

*bump*

Anybody still out there?? By my count we only have...23 days!!!!:cloud9:

We are getting sooooooo excited!! We do a Christmas Chain every year with my DD 5 and we are getting the chain ready. We are putting a special Link on for the Day we leave on the Cruise, Plus Christmas Day!!!!:santa:

We live an Hour away from Walt Disney World. We went and stayed Thanksgiving Night and had Pixie Dust come our way pixiedust: We booked at the Port Orleans Riverside and were upgraded to the Contemporary because they overbooked. So we are so in the Christmas mood
:cheer2:

Wow! What great luck you have! I like the Contemporary for it's location and the character breakfast.

We used to go out to WDW all the time... we were so sad when we had to leave FL.+

So Close!!:woohoo:

Just called the cruise line and talked to the most perky and sweet girl to find out about the movies
- Pirates of the Carribeans (III)
- Rattatioule (not sure about the spelling)
- Game plan
- Underdog
- Dan in real life
- Enchanted
- National Treasure II

My kids are really wanting to see enchanted, I hope I can make them wait.

Just received the Cruise Documents from Disney for the Cruise!!!!! So much excitement I can not contain it!!!:yay:

Man, I'm still waiting on my docs. I hate this part!! And it started snowing here today--- I REALLY can't wait to get to Florida. :moped:

It snowed here in Maryland yesterday and it's all cold and wintery now, so I know what you mean! We got our docs today, too. It's almost time to go!!!! Yippeeee!!

Snow here in Omaha as well, and just a terrible day after yesterday! I cannot wait for nice weather, sunshine and a vacation.

Wow, I feel for you all. Lots of prayers are being sent your way. A cruise will be great to take your mind off it all!

I live about an hour North of WDW and it has been beautiful here. A little cold for Florida Born people:rotfl2: I hope that the weather is this nice in a couple of weeks.

I “wonder” what the weather is going to be like on 12/23?? Anyone looked ahead.

I checked--- low 52/ high 73 partly cloudy:banana:

Is there anyway I can find out/ Look up/ what the seas may be? This is what I am a little nervous about. First Time cruiser and tend to have a little motion sickness when I go out in the ocean in small boats. My DH says it is not going to be the same on the Big Boat. I have my Meds ready!:thumbsup2

Yes, there is... if you go to www.noaa.gov and type in cities along the coast of FL (like Cape Canaveral and Miami) and scroll down to the bottom. On the right, it says "other forecasts"; choose Maritime.

This will give you a basic breakdown of what conditions are currently and what they will be for the next week or so. We aren't sailing that far out to sea-- so we should be relatively similar to the forecasts there.

To be honest-- the ONLY time I have ever "felt" the ocean is when we were at 30 foot seas on the backside of Hurricane Wilma... and it wasn't that bad. The water is usually VERY calm this time of year.

Hope this helps!
