Christmas Cruise 2005!!!

Hi Gang,
So much going on.

Nan, thank goodness your little prince is ok. I always flipped out when my kids got hurt!

Another Friday night home alone. Jesse's at his cousin's for the night...again! Chad's out with his, well, whatever he's calling her this week. Mel's at his tennis camp. My best friend is busy tonight. If it weren't so rainy out, I'd go over to the park. There's always a lot of action over there on summer nights. I still may go out, I don't know. But NYC is really crappy when it rains.

I had sort of a bad day at work today. My job is supposed to be fun, for me and for the patients/residents, but now that I've been placed on the vent floor, it's starting to get me down. I feel so sorry for these people. They basically lie in bed ALL DAY, everyday, until there's a miracle or until they die. And I'm not just talking about the older folks, which is bad enough, but there are a few younger ones...25, 29, 43, and 49 years old that are bedbound with deformed limbs and who cannot breathe on their own. And most of them are in contact isolation, whicgh means I have to put on a mask, gloves, and surgical gown when going into their rooms. How inhuman is that, it breaks my heart to treat them that way, but I have to. Imagine stroking someone's hand and they feel rubber instead of warm flesh. And then they plead with their eyes for you to stay with them, but you have to leave. Today I walked in on a patient who I've never heard utter a sound, but today she was sounding like an innocent little baby whimpering as the nurse tried to get an IV in her hand. It just got to me today. But I'll be positive and do what I can do and start fresh on Monday. I try not to get emotionally involved with them, but I find myself thinking about them when I'm home on the weekends, hoping they're ok. I pray for them, that's all I can do.
Anyway, please don't get mad at me for posting all this misery. You're all my pals, I just wanted to share my day. It helps to tell someone.

Tomorrow I have a nice day planned, with my friend Casey. OMG he's another sob story, what do I get myself into! (He's the priest stricken with severe diabetes and Parkinson's). Well, I told him he better be ready right after breakfast, because I'm kidnapping him from his residence for the day and we're going to kick back and watch some stupid movie, order in, snooze if he feels like it, and go through his old photos which I'm in the process of scanning for him. We crack each other up all the time, he's so funny. Imagine a guy right off the boat from Ireland, with the accent, I mimic him all the time and he thinks it's hilarious. Can't wait til tomorrow. :goodvibes

I have the news on, and they're showing the flyers with photos posted in London, looking for missing loved ones from the bombings. It made me nauseous for a moment, ho much it reminded me of 9/11 when I couldn't even pck up a container of milk at the corner store without seeing hundreds of photos like those. What is going on in this world?? I hope I don't sound insensitive, but thank God there's this cruise coming up. I sure as hell need it! And I swear, the moment I'm off that boat and near a phone, I'm booking a nice big vaca for late July 2007...first a 4 day Wonder trip, and then the Poly for a week. I may have to sell everything I own on ebay, but I'm going and that's final! :cool1:

Should I go out?? OK you talked me into it, I'll stay a bit longer and see if I can turn this into thesis length! :rotfl2:

Does anyone have any chocolate??? Please!!! I may need to go out later after all. ;) :mickeybar <-------a nice solid Mickey bar of chocolate as I devour it

Have any of you ever seen the movie It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World? I think it's the funniest movie ever made. I think I'll go over to Amazon.com and buy it. No kidding. I remember once it was on late at night, and everyone was asleep. I was laughing so loud, screaming with laughter, it woke Mel up and he couldn't believe I was laughing that hard at a movie.

Over to Amazon. BBL :sunny:

Hi Aisling

I almost had an alone night but FIL came home, he has to work tomorrow and DS is home, he was gonna go to a concert but didn't want to have to deal with trying to get a ticket.

DH is out prob with BIL and DD is at the concert with my sis and nephew.

I think you should at least take a walk to get yourself some choclate...then come back and DIS with us.

If I had your job I would have to force a change in my own thinking

First, realize that they all apreciate you being there, rubber gloves and all.
you brighten their days, even if it is only to hold their hand.

My example would have to be your best friend...you know how much he enjoys your company and laughs with you. That is who you are.

Your 2007 plans sound awesome!

Go for it Lady...in my best Rob Schneider You can do it!!!

and Mad mad mad mad world!!!

Love that movie...I watch it every chance I get...

Aisling: Not only to those patients know but the family of those patients (like me and my mom and sis) think respiratory walks on water. ~2 years ago dad was in ICU for 3+ weeks with pneumonia on a vent. The nurses and caregivers helped us deal thru the whole thing. My heart reaches out to you and gives you a :grouphug: Now do as Tiggie says and get some chocolate :mickeybar

Fortunately I find that inner strength when the kids are hurt and was too bad at urgent care with Wilson. I think it is my calling as if I let his Daddy console him, I'd have to stuff a sock in my mouth and bite it really hard. When it comes to barfing, I leave the room, sometimes the house to avoid the smell, I just can't deal... Daddy gets that job all to himself. I guess that's why God made parents in pairs huh?(humans at least)

What did DH say about the tennis rabbit???? Totally funny made me LOL.

DH just brought home some fish and chips yummmy dinner time :love2:

bbl,

Nan

Yup, seen it, it's hilarious. And thank you for shopping at Amazon :teeth:

You guys see the fireworks from the 4th of July in this thread ? Makes me want to go to the MK instead of Epcot for NYE.

Well, they finally broke ground on my house. Only 7 more months! Ugh....

Grim, that's cool news! It has begun, here it comes! It's like waiting for a new baby. When will you put your current house up for sale? Or is it already? Best of luck to you both. It's very exciting.

Nan and Tig, thanks. :love2: I did indeed go out, got a sub and a bag of hershey's kisses. If that doesn't change my mood, oh well, then I'm a lost cause!

Grim, I agree those fireworks were crazy! I can't even imagine MK on NYE, well I guess I can, and it's gotta be unbelieveable.

So who's next going to WDW? I think it's Jill and Tig's kids, am I correct? I'm still trying to figure out the new MYW tickets. Do you get APs?

I'm going to go search around the boards to see what's being said about the hurricane.

Hi again...Hi Grim!

Great news on the house Grim, the baby reference is very accurate. It takes so much time in the building of your new baby but the joy is in watching it grow.

Actually Aisling, Mom and I spoke very recently about this and cancelled the trip into Orlando.

I hope she doesn't mind my sharing, but the choice was between a few days in the parks or Mom being able to afford to stay in Pensacola if she made finals. She is still going to Florida, but only her and she's going directly to her competition.

It's really ok tho...my kids have been many many times. We still have two weeks in NC to pay for.

Mom has an AP,
last time I bought MYW tickets from the Mall's Disney Store.
4 days, no hopping for $197.

We always talk about hopping and never leave the park we start at  so to me paying extra for hopping is a waste.

And if you know how many days you need and buy only that amount, the non-expiry $$ is a waste IMO too.

OK, last post for the night, I have a DISmeet in Allentown PA to go to in the am

Both my kids and my nephew Otto went to a concert called sound of the underground this past Saturday, here are some of the shots from that day. They are true autograph hounds they are...the first two are guys from Norma Jean and the next two are with the lead singer from poison the well and the last is my Brittany with her other best friend Courtney.

G'night my Christmas Cruising Friends, I'll be back with pictures by late tomorrow night!

Grim: congrats on the house, oops I mean baby, oops I mean house. Oh cool is that, you go to WDW/cruise and then come home to a new home just a few months later...sounds great!!!

I need to figure out what tickets for us to get for our 12/18-12/24/04, (6 days) 12/31-1/2/05 (3 days) I have a package but it seems like we might do a little better with an AP (for shopping discounts) and then 3 tickets for the 9 days. I better get working on this. I seem to think I read that their are no dining discounts with an AP during the Xmas holidays, does anyone know about this??? I assume that their are shopping discounts. At Dland if you have an AP you get 10% off purchases over $10, and between 10-20% at resturants. The bean counter in me is surfacing, I feel the need to create a spreadsheet here. What a nerd huh?

Oh movies...how about "The Italian Job" both the old one and the recent one. Love them, car scenes are great. We are having a movie fest this weekend here. Starting with tonight with Bridget Jones #2, Neverland & Around the World with 80 days. I think I'll go snoop around Amazon too...looking for a good book, anyone got any good reads to suggest? (Grim, do I detect a shareholder??? or do you work for Amazon, did I miss that somewhere?)

Going to see the firework link now...but I'm not seeing a clear screen, it has lines running up & down the page, any suggestions to fix?

Ciao,

Nan

Both :teeth: The company I used to work for was aquired by amazon.com last March.

I would try going to Microsoft and download the latest version of Windows Media Player.

It's not up yet. I'm not in any hurry, 'cause houses are still going up every week. Dede is ansy to sell though, so we'll probably put it up this month.

If I may ask,

What are your interum plans if the house sells too fast? simple curiosity is asking...

I know some stay with family, some get apartments :confused3

Just BEAT from the days at MILs--kids (& adults) up TOOO late, and awake TOOO early! Afternoon at waterpark...Dan had to leave early to drive home as he had his annual golf trip Fri & Sat. Being a single parent is SOOO much more exhausting than together! So just getting back up to speed today!
Not much else going on--just typical. You were all a bit busy while I was gone!
Kinda thinking I need a nap...but we are headed to our waterpark in an hour.
Sad, Hastings has a MUCH nicer water park than us! (we don't have lazy river or wave pool--and their set up is just better). Too bad--we have the space!
So...better go have some caffeine to gear up!
Bye kids!
Kris
PS I think DH's family thinks I am NUTS with everything I know about the cruise! It seems none of them have done any research at all! Of course, I find planning for a trip almost as pleasurable as the actual trip!
This should make you smile, click on Mika's Face :)
( I can't get this right, but I know you know what I'm trying to say/do here, right???? :confused3 ...too much tech for a sunday)

I just got kissed by a dog....yum....okay that sounded weird huh? I'm a dog lover. Always have been. We had a beagle when I was little, then a dachshund while I was in college (living at home) then I moved out (actually mom & dad moved and I kept the house, to rent of course) got my first of 3 Border Collies, Kowdog. She was the love of my life. We now have Casey (12 years old) and Jenny Rose (6 years old) Enough about dogs....(I'll be sending pics to Tigg to post for me on that topic later) (man it's nice to have ones own offsite tech support, huh....love ya Tiggie) :love2:

We (the kids & Paul right now) are cleaning up the backyard. Junking old toys and the like and getting ready for spa heaven...Molly's bday party..count down has begun...less than 2 weeks.

Tomorrow is the big day at UCSF for my mom (& all of us, 4 girls, Paul and my dad are going) We are meeting a neurosurgeon to see if mom needs surgery on the brain tumor. I suspect that is why we are meeting with the surgeon. We had an appt for 9am and it got move to different doc and to 4pm. Please forgive me if I'm jumping around on this topic. I can't remember who I tell what on this stuff with my parents, as it tends to get me pretty over emotional when I go into it. Rather than be smart and read back a few posts of mine, I'll assume I told you that mom was diagnosed with a tumor in 2001 and just now (April '05) had the follow-up MRI to see it had grown and is clearly affecting her personality and causing much pain. (if not that was the short of a long story)

Okay, that topic is bad so let's talk about Disney....I'm playing the 50th cd which plays into the backyard...it's a small world afterall is playing now...la la la la la la la. I'm also finally down loading my pictures from the flash cards...need them for the bday party....

Okay, must get something of substance completed today....but I'll be lurking...

You may :teeth:

We plan on renting a house (there's a bajillion of them for rent around here). The ideal situation would be to sell to an investor, and then we can rent the house back from them - A long shot, but a lot of investors are buying up houses out here. Of course, that probably won't happen and we'll have to move twice :sad2:

Good luck at UCSF Nan :grouphug:

Speaking of dogs...

I called the police for the second time this week because of a barking dog. Neither Dede or I have had a decents night sleep all week. We have new neighbors, and they have a big dog. They keep the dog outside 24 hours a day, which if you ask me is cruel when it's 115 outside. I never hear anyone go outside an play with him.

Anyway, this poor doggy is barking all night long, all week long. We tried sleeping with ear plugs, but even that didn't help. The first time I called the police, they drove up, rolled down the window for 3 seconds, didn't hear the dog, and drove away. This time, I waited outside for them to make sure they heard the dog. As soon as they got out of their patrol car, sure enough Herbie (that's what Dede 'affectionately' calls him) started barking up a storm.

It was almost 6:00 AM by this time (called at 4:30 AM). The cops went and talked to the neightbors, and he said it wasn't his dog - he was just dog sitting, and he would make other arrangements for the doggy. I was relieved to hear this, 'cause I was upset at the way the animal was treated.

So, I finally got a good nap in this afternoon. :flower:

Anyone see the USGP this afternoon??? :Pinkbounc :bounce:

That's Me! Remote Tech support on demand!

I'm sending over Prayers and Pixie Dust for you and your Mom

Is Molly as anxious for the party as you are? ;) She seems to be an awesome young lady...I just can't get over those polka dot boots...my daughter Brittany thinks "they're hot!" Hi Skjerven Family!

You were close...you had one too many of / <--these.
For all codes use only brackets [] in the front of your code and [/] in the back.

Thanks for the reply Grim

I pray you get your "ideal" buyer for the house. Who wants to move twice?

That poor doggie. And you and Dede too...my Mika is an Akita, they rarely bark. It makes up for having to live next to a beagle. That Cody next door has quite a howl. My puppy is rarely left outside, much less kept out 24/7.

Since you said you got some sleep, is he gone now?

USGP?

Is that golf?

There were two races on today that my guys were watching, and a soccer game. FIL looooves his soccer.

I think he's gone - hasn't barked since 7:00 AM or so.

USGP = Moto GP = motorcycle race at Laguna Seca.
