I love cards! I can't wait to send them out when I'm older (I'm 22 do sending out cards is personally impractical for me now). I just sent out about 30 graduation announcements (half were the expensive formal ones half were photo ones). I love both traditional and photo cards, I think it's nice to see pictures of people's family especially if I don't see them often.

this year, we sent out 20 cards - no pix, no newsletter

DS is 27 - no need to send any pix of him!

by next year, might only be 15 cards, at the rate it's going...

grew up in big italian family - sending xmas cards was a HUGE deal!

grandma M used to send out (literally) 100 or more

(lots more relatives were alive back then, too)

I always send out a few. My problem is that I can never remember if I've bought cards the year before, to send out the next year. So I have to wait until I unearth all my Christmas stuff.

We do photo cards, about 40 a year. Sent most of them out yesterday, just need to get to the post office and get international stamps for the last few.

And although they are photo cards, they are all hand signed and addressed. Most also have a personal note on the back. My family has come to expect a family pic from our yearly Disney trip as part of the card.

how old is your sister?

i still send out Christmas cards. mine include pictures and a little "favorite things" blurb from each of my kids (included on the actual card).

i'm a photographer and many clients send them out as well (i know because i design their cards). still more have me upload files to tinyprints (or they just buy the DVD of images).

Cards only to close family who live far away, and then mostly just as a vehicle to get the kids' school pictures to them. And to make elderly grandparents happy.

Newsletters - never. That's why I have Facebook. Everyone who wants to know anything about our family already has access to that info on FB.

I don't enjoy receiving cards either. I think they are a waste of paper/trees (for the few I do send, I only send cards made from recycled materials and made in the USA).

I still send some cards out but nothing like I used to. It's just too darn expensive nowadays.
This year, I bought some less expensive cards to just have on hand, and then I made a photo one with my dd in front of our front door with swag. That will get sent to those far away family and close friends we don't get to see much of during the year.
I've pretty much stopped sending cards to those people I see every week!!! With postage being what it is, it's just too costly.

Yes. I LOVE getting and sending holiday cards. I usually send out about 80-100 (this year we pruned our list early and are onyl sending 84). We do a card from shutterlfy with our daughter's pic. Many of our friends and family live far away and they don't get to see her.

I also write a short note (3-4 sentences) on each one. DH addresses them. I love it.

20 or so Christmas cards and then 10 or so New Year cards

We don't have the custom concerning newsletters so it's just seasons greetings and a few personal words for each person :goodvibes

I voted other because I haven't decided yet. I usually send out around 40, but this year my heart just isn't in it. I was going to take a family picture at Thanksgiving, but since we had a turkey accident that ended with DD in the ER, there was no picture taken and I just really don't have the heart to write them. I haven't even done any decorating yet. I am thinking about just buying a small tree to put up and be done with it all this year.

Goodness! What happened with your DD, if you don't mind my asking? (if you do, feel free to ignore)

I hope she is OK now.

And FWIW I can't get into the spirit this year either. No trips to the ER, but no decorating, no tree, haven't even really done any shopping. I am pretty much ready to just skip it all and move on to Easter.

If I get one, I will send one back... other than that, no. I like the idea of it, I am just too lazy to do it.

Call me grinch, but am I the only one who doesn't see the point of sending out cards where you just sign your name to the bottom (and sometimes there's not even a Dear _____ on the top)? I'm happy to get newsletters, pictures, notes, etc. but I'd rather you saved your money and didn't send me a generic card with just your name in it. JMHO :flower3:

She is fine now thanks for asking, she was taking the turkey out and it was in an foil roasting pan that she dropped and the hot broth went down the front of her and burnt her legs. She is much better now thanks.

FWIW, thats not why I don't want to do cards this year. I just lack the christmas spirit. I am the one who always has the cards done, shopping done and tree up the weekend after thanksgiving and this year I have done nothing.

We send out about 40 picture cards of the kids. When the kids are all grown, we may send a few cards, but for now our family enjoys getting a card with their pictures.

No newsletter. Remember the 'Everybody Loves Raymond" episode? :rotfl2:

I do think that Christmas cards are a dying art.

I, typically, don't get my act together before The New Year so I send New Year's cards. I do tend to send photo cards with small snapshots with a "year in review" type of theme. Small captions at the bottom.

I really enjoy seeing my friends & their families in picture cards. I don't live near any friends that I grew up with nor went with to college. I even love pic cards from my siblings families as we, at best, see each other once a year. Facebook is definitely nice for these things but only a Few of my friends post on a regular basis....many are not on at all. I enjoy 1 page/ 1 side newsletters. In recent years I have had two or three friends who do 2 or more pages with itsy-bitsy font with their complete travel logs or whatever. I don't even read those. I don't particularly like a card with just a signature but I do appreciate being thought of.

I send out ~ 100 every year, with a SHORT newsletter attached. (One or two things about each family member. Things you might know if you read every post on Facebook, but might not, either.) And I get thanked regularly, especially by people in my parents' generation for keeping them on the list. I usualy get between 50-60 cards a year. Up to 3 so far this year.
