Christmas Cards...AARRGG!

I do printed labels every year. So easy and I just have to hit print each year and I have my Christmas Card list.

For the first time in several years, I have time to send Christmas cards. I have been doing research on card etiquette and everyone says that computer printed address labels is a no-no. Well, I was going to do these labels because I had surgery on my right hand, and I still have a lot of pain when writing with that hand. I am right handed. I can't get my husband or son to do the addresses for me because their hand writing is so bad no one can read it.

My question is, just how tacky is it to put computer labels on Christmas cards? I bought the clear labels, and did them in a very nice script, but if it is going to be seen as being lazy or tacky, then I will just not send the cards. My family and friends will be shocked if they get a card, so no card is no big deal.

We have used Christmas labels for years now. None of our friends have ever complained.

I do computer printed labels for the sake of the Post Office. Its easier for the sorting machines to read them and gets the mail moving faster. Humans can only sort so many hand-written envelopes and they are busy enough in December without me adding to their work.

I've been doing computer labels for close to 15 years and no one has said anything. On the other hand, I make our cards either on the computer or with scrapbooking supplies, and gets tons of compliments on them. I design the envelope labels to coordinate with the card, but I don't think anyone notices. LOL

I hope to buy Christmas cards in WDW next week. I have the labels all printed out, along with postage stamps and my return add labels.

I have never found pre-addressed labels obnoxious.

Specifically, the post office prefers/appreciates/has the easiest time sorting and delivering when the NAME, ADDRESS, CITY, and STATE are all printed in upper-case - either hand- or computer-generated. They also advise that we do use proper abbreviations (ST, AVE, RD instead of Street, Avenue, Road) and that we not use punctuation http://www.usps.com/send/preparemailandpackages/labelsandaddressing/usingthecorrectaddress.htm

So, to directly answer the OP: use the labels! use the labels! use the labels! Your mail sorters and carriers thank you.

My hand writing is so bad I do the envelopes on a printer, in a script font with green ink. I do hand write the inside of the card, which is almost illegible!

I think labels are fine, especially in your situation.

I know it's Christmas, but block letters and black ink is easier for the sorting machines and personnel to read and sort

Thanks everyone for the great replies. I am going to just print my labels and slap those things on and not worry about it anymore. I will hand write our names inside the cards. Good thing all of our names are short!

I see nothing wrong with printed labels. Most cards I get have printed labels and return address.

Hey Yorkie, (my home town) a card sent is better than none.

I did my adresses on the computer too.

I agree-if people get their undies in a twist over something as stupid as this, they will get dropped from my list.

I would say that 90% of our cards some with pre-printed labels and no 'personal note". Who cares, I want to see how the kids have grown or read their letters to see what has gone on in their lives in the past year. I pre-print our names on the cards, pre-print the address AND return address on all the cards. Actually I don't use labels because they cost extra, I just print right to the envelope.

So how do you print right on the envelope? I'd love to do this after seeing the price for the clear labels. Not what i wanna spend on those. I've never printed on envelopes b4 so I'm not sure how to center it or stuff.
