Earlier today, Mom got a Christmas card from a family member who used her sister's name with Mom's last name on the envelope. If she sends back a card to them, should she correct them about it or let it slide? We had just seen the relatives in question this past Saturday at our family Christmas dinner and Mom commented about being confused for her sister a lot....

What do you mean by correct?

IF you mean a reminder of what her correct name was expressed in the card...no.

If you mean addressing the envelope and signing the card with her correct name...yes.

For those of advanced age--sometimes correcting doesn't do much. We had a relative who was developing alzheimer's and back when she was still reasonably of normal mind--we'd get little mistakes every now and again. To me, it is the thought that counts and greeting cards aren't the place to address the problem.

My DH is often addressed by his last name and I have had my daughter's name in place of my own a time or two.

The thing is, they're not elderly. If they were, it wouldn't be an issue.... But they're, I'm guessing, mid to late 40s.

"Correct" by mentioning it in the card.

Do you mean she addressed the card to 'Mary Smith" and your mom is Susan Smith and her sister is Mary? I would let it go, no biggie. I wrote out 80 cards the other day and I wouldn't be suprised if I made a random error or two. Heck, I can't even remember who I sent them to:lmao:

Regardless, I would just sign the card correctly and let it go.

I would use another opportunity to mention it to them. But not in a holiday card. (or in a future birthday card or other occasion card.)

Thanks for the replies. I'll tell Mom to not bother with it. :goodvibes

It's no biggie but I didn't know what to do......
