Last year there was a long thread with great recipes of wonderful things you DISsers were making for breakfast on Christmas morning. There was one recipe for a kind of baked french toasy thing with lots of cinnamon and chunks of bread. Does anyone remember that? I signed up to bring it to our staff breakfast.

Can you help?
TIA

Here is mine:

Ingredients
1 loaf (10 ounces) French bread, cut into 1-inch cubes (10 cups)
8 eggs
3 cups milk
4 teaspoons sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3/4 teaspoon salt, optional
TOPPING:
2 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
Maple syrup, optional
Directions
Place bread cubes in a greased 13-in. x 9-in. baking dish. In a large bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla and salt if desired. Pour over bread. Cover and refrigerate for 8 hours or overnight.
Remove from refrigerator 30 minutes before baking. Dot with butter. Combine sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over the top.
Cover and bake at 350° for 45-50 minutes or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean. Let stand for 5 minutes. Serve with maple syrup if desired. Yield: 12 servings.

I do mine with panettone. YUM.
It's summer in australia so I serve ours with mango and fresh berries in a simple sugar syrup.

Praline Baked French Toast

My family loves this, especially on Christmas Morning!
And, the best thing is that you can make it the night before & then pop it in the oven in the morning!

Praline Baked French Toast
6 tablespoons Butter
1 cup Light Brown Sugar
2 tablespoons Light Corn Syrup
1/2 cup chopped Pecans
2 Eggs, plus 3 Egg Whites
1 cup Orange Juice
1/4 cup Sugar
1/3 cup Milk
1 teaspoon grated Orange Rind
1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon
1 teaspoon Vanilla
1 (16 oz) loaf French Bread, cut into 12 to 15 (1 inch) slices

In a microwaveable dish, combine butter, brown sugar & corn syrup. Microwave until the butter has melted & the brown sugar is dissolved, about 1 minute. Pour the mixture into an ungreased 3 quart oblong baking dish or a 13 x 9 inch pan. Sprinkle with pecans.
In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, egg whites, orange juice, sugar, milk, orange rind, cinnamon & vanilla.
Arrange the bread slices over the brown sugar mixture & pecans in the dish. Pour the egg mixture over the bread slices. Cover & refrigerate for at least 4 hours to overnight.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Bake for about 30 minutes or until toasty. Serve immediately, each piece with some of the praline sauce that forms on the bottom of the dish.

I'm so impressed with people that can manage an actual meal on Christmas morning. We usually eat the candy out of our stockings for breakfast:rotfl:

Maybe I can get inspired to make some of these wonderful recipes this year....my poor family won't know what to make of it:lmao:

For a lot of people a big out-of-the-ordinary breakfast is their Christmas tradition. For you, eating candy for Christmas morning is your tradition. Both sound good to me!!!! :goodvibes

Monkey bread from the freezer, just pop it in the microwave. And candy:santa:

Thats why I love doing the French toast casserole, or an egg/sausage one because all I have to do is stick it in the oven in the morning. We even use paper plates to eat it ;)

We are having Mickey waffles, eggs and bacon (for DH). We do it every year on Christmas. But that french toast thing sounds amazing!!! Might have to try that out!
