Christmas "Brag" letters

:rotfl:I dont do the letters but one year my mom decided she would do one because a lot of things went on that year she wanted to share ( or brag which ever you perfer ;) )
Great letter telling all the stuff the kids and grandkids had done though the year.....then she got to the part about her and my dad. She put how she had an abnormal pap smear and the doc had told my dad if he didnt quit smoking he could die soon. You know just the kind of things you really dont want to know:rotfl:
Still cracks me up that she sent this to people!

Love them and here is why.

I am a keeper of family news, always have, always will.

I grew up with a cousin that moved away and probably haven't seen for 25 years. Every year we get the letter and it is always perfect in their world. My Mom who never says a bad thing about anyone even thought they were over the top. Finally I broke the news to her that they weren't that perfect when I showed her the previous 2 years of letters and they also mentioned his oldest daughter would be graduating HS that year and was planning on attending an Ivy league school. After 3 years of being a senior in HS I doubted she was getting accepted to the prestigious school they kept mentioning. My Mom had a good belly laugh when I pulled out the birth announcement and his daughter was 22. Really I have nothing against whatever she decided to do with her life but it was and still is funny. Sadly she hasn't been mentioned in the last few years so I don't know if she ever graduated.

I guess there are some people that think our memory is short from year to year.

OP here, I think the family letters to family are fine. The letter I opened this morning was from an acquaintance, at best.

I was over at my parents' house visiting last week, and my mom had me open her Christmas cards.. and I opened one, with a very depressing brag letter. This poor lady had 5 people in her family die over the last year and the entire letter was one big justification for her being depressed and disconnected all year. It made me sad, but it was the weirdest thing ever to get in a Christmas card from somebody that my family apparently doesn't know all that well.

One of my high school friends would send one every year.
I ended up throwing them away after reading the first one.
It truly was a bragfest.
Now her life is not so pretty (as things do happen to people) and I imagine she will not write these any more. :sad1:
