For those of you that stayed at BLT last Christmas, do you remember any of the activities that were going on at the resort the week of Christmas? I've done searches and haven't come up with much. We were there last year the first weekend of Dec., but this year we will be there with my son and parents from the 20th to the 26th (We're waitlisted for the 19th). I am trying to see if there is anything my dad my be interested in. He isn't big on the parks. Thanks:)

My only suggestion... AVOID the magic kingdom Christmas morning!!!! I have rarely seen that mass of humanity... not since Disney went to 4 gates and limited occupancy. The only thing worse was back in the early 80's when I was a kid on Fourth of July or Christmas and they didn't limit the number of people... it was insanity.

Actually, it might be a good NON-Park day... at least in the morning. We did hit DAK first thing and it wasn't too bad. Epcot at night wasn't bad either.

When we went when my son was 2 (his first trip), I think we did Epcot Christmas day. The parks aren't a concern. We've been there several times when the parks were temporarily closed due to capacity (July 4th, Christmas, spring break, Christmas parade taping, etc.). I just wondered if there were any neat activities at BLT. I would be a little surprised if there were to be honest. The lobby just isn't set up like SSR or the other DVC resorts to do much.

There are some holiday activities on the BLT Community Hall brochure we picked up last year. I'm not sure if it covered all of your dates, but here it is.

Thank you. That was perfect! I hope they do the tie-dye again. My son missed it by an hour at HHI over NYE.

WOW - it looks like they have a lot going on at BLT. Thanks for sharing the community events - - it was very helpful. :flower3:

They have similar events at all CH's that I've been to. Having stayed @ BLT over Christmas I can say there was nothing really specific to a holiday event @ BLT except what was offered @ CH. There were random carloers @ CR and such, but nothing specifically @ BLT. Our first Christmas trip to WDW will be our last, it did not give us the holiday feeling at all. But that's just us...more room for the rest of you :thumbsup2

As a big BLT lover, I am surprised at your comment. I am planning on a split stay BLT (3 days) & BWV (3 days) the week after Thanksgiving(2011). While I wasn't planning on going into MK, I do want to see the lights at Fort Wilderness and hang out at VWL, tour Grand Flo.

It is true, I am a huge BLT fan, just not a fan of being @ WDW over the Christmas holiday. I LOVED the resort but was disappointed at the holiday theming overall.

We had seen and heard all the hype and were soooo excited to give up our normal MNSSHP October trip to give Christmas and MVMCP a try. While I'm happy to say we finally did it (only time of year we had not been at the World) my family and I all agree that christmastime there is not for us.

Many people that we met commented that is "wasn't the same" as years past. Since this was our first time, I can't elaborate on their thoughts but I understood it to mean that with cut backs it just wasn't as "done up" as before.

Many DVC'ers LOVE that time of year, and I'm sure you will too! :thumbsup2

It has been posted by those that travel to WDW that week after Thanksgiving that this is a down time for crowds. I hate the masses of people during Christmas so picking this week, hopefully the crowds will be low and we get to see all the decorations.

Well is it less than if you actually went Xmas week. But you know from here it's a really popular time for DVC'ers. I think most of the WDW tour books I've glanced at suggest the week after T-giving as a good time to go to avoid crowds. The TA at our AAA, who's been subject to TK's cruise whims, says it's when she tells parents with small kids to go.

For someone who's tied to a school schedule it probably wouldn't phase me.

I had to laugh at TGM's plans mid-October, packed, better get to the parks at rope drop, it will be crazy:rotfl2::rotfl2:. It thought it was rather empty, I 'd love to go again at that time of year.

I always like the week or two before Christmas... leaving around the 21 or 22. It usually gets me out before the crowds and people are in the high holiday spirit.

Yep, that would be a good time, after the 1st 2 weeks of Dec and before the holiday crowds pile in.

BWV Dreamin, have you thought about that timeframe?

I thought about those weeks. I am alittle afraid that the more into December the greater the chances of snow! It has snowed on Dec.5 th every year now for the past 5 years ( I think). I don't recall any snow during the last week of November.

We were at at BLT during the week of Dec. 20-26 this past year. Here are a couple of "non-park" recommendations for your dad:
Ride the monorail around and look at the decor at the Poly and the GF. The Poly was "okay" but the GF has the full-sized gingerbread house--and I thought the decor there was exceptional.

Go see the Hoop-De-Doo-Musical Review. Not sure if you are worried about cost--because it's not cheap but it was SO worth it. They do Christmas songs along with most of the regular songs from the program. We rode the boat from the Contemporary dock to Fort Wilderness and it was really fun.

Oh, and you can also go to the Top of the World Lounge at BLT and watch the MK fireworks without having to go to the MK. Not quite the same experience as "being there" but for someone who isn't a park fan--it's a great alternative.

My tip for a park for Christmas Day? Animal Kingdom. I couldn't believe how few people were there this past year (because everyone was at MK!).

Shhh! Don't tell everyone how great AK is on major holidays!

I actually didn't realize that Hoop De Doo did Christmas songs during the holidays! How great!! We are planning on eating at Hoop De Doo on Christmas Day (although fried chicken and ribs are kinda atypical for a Christmas meal - LOL). What an added treat to have some Christmas songs thrown into the program!! Thanks for the tip!
