We will be booking our gown resort at 11 months for the 2020 Christmas holidays .
DD really wants to stay at another resort too for a couple days ..
Is anything left at the 7 month mark ? I don’t see a lot of cash rooms left through Disney but what we want is avail through 3rd party .. I can always book and cancel I guess ??
I assume it would be easier to tack on a day at the start or end of the trip then Dec24/25
Any thoughts would be great ..
( Pls don’t give me the should have bought where I wanted to stay . I kinda bought as an impulse while there at Easter and in no way regretting but had I known tho there were other options I prob would have purchased elsewhere tbh )
Sincere Thanks so much

I would book a cash reservation through Disney for the resort you want. If you can snag a DVC reservation at 7 months, you can cancel the cash reservation. If you're thinking of moving in the middle of the trip to a different resort for Christmas Eve/Christmas day, then moving back again, I wouldn't do that. With the sheer volume of people, the rooms will take forever to service and you'd likely have to wait all day to get into the room, and be homeless for the day. If you must move, I'd move just once, and not on the busiest of days.

For major holidays and DVC, my advice is to book your home resort and be happy. If you want to try different resorts, do so during less busy times. Like you, there were no choices for resorts back when I purchased. OKW was THE DVC resort. Fortunately, I love staying there, and have only actually traded to a Poly studio once, just to try something different.

I was able to switch for this coming Dec. But I only had a 2 night resie (Dec 19-21). There were limited options though. And looking now, there is zippo. MIL could not make our trip last week due to medical issue and she is interested in going in Dec but the whole entire month is booked pretty solid. Now, we are only 2 months out. That is typical. SIL and I once looked when us two couples had dinner one night and we said 'hey, lets go to WDW for Xmas' on a whim about 2 months out. We looked and nothing was available. But right at 7 months...some things will be open. Studios tough to find. And maybe consider a split stay because finding 3-4 nights is easier than an entire week.

The period Dec 23 to Jan 2 is the actual Christmas "week." Multiple days are usually missing by 7 months out for that time period except for possibilities at SSR, AKV Kidani savanna view, and OKW, and even those can have problems, particularly if seeking studios or having a start date that is after Christmas Day, and thus many who booked earlier will have already blocked out the week (NYE is the highest demand day of the year). You can sometimes get lucky elsewhere if seeking a 1BR.

Thanks guys ideally I just want one night AKL savanna view for my animal obsessed kiddo..
