I just got off the phone with member services(DVC) because I thought next year 's School Christmas Holidays were Dec 19th To Jan 2nd. I received info from my school board ( Peel Board of Education) --our dates for Holidays next Christmas are Dec 26th to Jan 6th.
Well I'm all re booked but thought this info might help someone else.

Happy Planning all

Hugs Mel

Our school board changed it as well. When I was booking my 2011 vacation at end of Nov, kids were returning to classes on Jan 2nd. then just before Christmas, the Board approved a revised schedule with kids in classes until Dec 23rd and not back until the 9th. It hasn't been approved by the Ministry of Education yet (still "tentative"), but this is sooo much better for us. DD will be 14 this year and really wants to do Half Marathon with me on Jan 7th. This is probably the ONLY year that the break will accommodate the Marathon Weekend at WDW.:banana::banana:

Do you know if the Ministry has approved your schedule for your Board? Last week ours wasn't approved as of yet, and I'm hesitant to register for Half until it is.

Same thing has happened with us - we are the Halton board
I would imagine we're the same with the Dufferin-Peel Catholic Board. (Not that it changes vacation for us, Christmas is always home with family) I'd rather know the P.A. days now as we're looking for a parental getaway and want to leverage a PA day for easier child care for my mom.

We are also scheduled for the same dates....kids go to school right until the 23rd and then go back january 9th!! That is just ridiculous if you ask any parent I can find.
The week before and the week after would be far more tolerable.....once christmas is over though what is there for them to do!!
O.k now I HAVE to find a holiday for after christmas.!! I hate to think of us around here for 10 days after christmas with NOTHING on......ugggg.

Love, love, love the time after Christmas off! Christmas is exciting, and stuff gets done whether we are in school or not. Unfortunately, I really wanted to go to the marathon (as cheerleader) with the family doing the half, but you just can't trust the flights on that last day, and we HAVE to be at school on the 9th, no ifs ands or buts. :sad2:

So book a Sat afternoon flight? that gives you a "buffer day". I don't believe that any of us are planning on the Full. You know you don't want to miss this. ;)

Any idea when the Ministry will approve the tentative schedules???

The Northern Boards DSONE and NCDSB are also going with finish Dec. 23 return Jan. 9 .... I am super thrilled about this - our first DVC trip "home" is booked over New Years and into that first "low season week" in January. (I'm a HS teacher and I didn't think I would see WDW during the holidays until I retired many many many years from now!) Now, if only I can find airfare that works for us! :upsidedow

Same here in Lambton Kent. I hate when the year goes right up til Christmas..that means I get no help from DH:headache:! Lots of time after Christmas for a trip somewhere!:)

My mother was a teacher and the rule always was that school was out the Friday before Christmas Eve. If Christmas Eve fell on a Friday we were always off the Friday before. This is how I figure out the school holidays and it has worked for the past 14 years for me.

Really? I love it! KPR did this last Christmas (Thurs 23rd to Jan 6th). They had a vote put up on their website for parents to choose.

Personally I disliked the kids being home for a week before Christmas. A couple of days is ok, but not a full week. They get so hyped up in anticipation, it drives me nuts! :rotfl: And I like to spend that last week doing all my baking.

This year the kids stay in school up to Fri 23rd. Then have 2 weeks off. Same as OP.

Is this REALLY low season?? Like SERIOUSLY?! If so HOLY CRAP!

Well, it is low-season DVC points-wise! Not so sure about crowdwise (or regular room rate-wise). :)

Right up to December 31st is "premiere season" in DVC point terms (which correlates with WDWs peak attendance), but starting January 1st DVC enters "adventure season" with the points the lowest possible. I've never travelled at this time of year, but apparently the crowds do drop off after the 31st only to pick up again the following weekend for the marathon.

We have the Friday before as a board holiday, so our last day of school is Thursday, Dec. 22rd.

I would suspect there are a few details to be worked out for the holiday, and it's too early for them to give you that information yet, except in tentative form. Our trustees don't confirm schedules until later this school year.

I'm a teacher and can't even get this info, nor can our union, and the reason is that they still have the right, within the Education Act, to tinker with next year's school calendar.

Good luck in planning your trip, Tiger :)

I was curious how school boards were posting this so early?? Our school boards (Ottawa) has not posted anything.

I really do hope this is the case because we will definitely be seriously looking at a vacation Jan 1st. Bonus that I can use vacation days from next year and kids are out of school!

BTW, I'm so blaming you as the one who put the thought in my head when hubby asks! :rotfl:

Until I read your posting yesterday, I never put two & two together and realized we actually *could* see the holiday stuff at Disney. DH balked when he found out about 9 and 10 crowd levels late December. :rolleyes1

I have not been able to stop wondering if we can swing it. It would be wonderful to surprise the kids at Christmas! :cloud9:

Our board put out two calendars and asked parents to vote on their preference ... 90% voted on going until the 23rd and back on the 9th of January!!! Yahoo!!!! I SOOOOO prefer to do this!!!

I find when we have the week off ahead all I do is rush around and do more (ie. buy more) and feel totally rushed!!! Then you just have that week in b/w and there is New Years (and family things in b/w) and boom back to school!

I like having little time before Christmas off and then having a REAL break AFTER the madness is over!!! Hmmm ... maybe the first week of January at WDW wouldn't be so bad after all ... now you have put that into MY head too!!!! But we better be quiet --- or those WDW people will figure it out and hike the rates :) I just don't know if I can go in January AND at March Break :rotfl:

Dec 21st until Jan 4th in Saskatoon for the Catholic Schools.

We have a pre-xmas trip planned for the 8th-18th of DEC so the kids will go back and get their homework and catch-up over the break.

Ok ... blame me! :)

We will be travelling with 3 little ones, and so do not plan to venture into a park at all on NYE. If things go well, we may try to stay at the MK for the NYE fireworks trial-run on Dec. 30th. (This is our arrival day, so not sure how that will play out.) We're hoping everyone is so tired from all the festivities that the parks will be somewhat manageable from Jan. 1st onward.
