Christmas 2010 trip anyone interested?

Ok, is this sad or what? I don't leave until this coming Monday night for DW, and after reading this thread I'm already tempted to try to set up another trip in December. This whole meet up idea regardless if it's an organized series of events or non-RSVP casual meet ups sounds like a lot of fun.

You can add my birthday: July 25th

9/23 is my son's birthday! Mine is 9/29! :goodvibes

My oldest son's birthday is also 9/23. My youngest son's birthday is 9/30.

Please add my birthday to the calendar - 5/13

Hello everyone,
This year I will have no one to travel with. I really wanted to go to Disney, but was so nervous at the thought of going solo until I read all of the wonderful posts. I was wondering if any of you have done Mickey's Not so Scary Halloween party or the Christmas Party solo? I really wanted attend one of these events and worried that I would feel out of place. Any suggestions for attending the parties would be appreciated.
My travel dates are still up in the air, but at this point I am leaning towards the week after Thanksgiving. Thanks!!

I plan on doing the Very Merry solo while I am there.

I will be on the DDP and will be looking to see if anyone wants to join up for ADRs.

Still planning.

I've attended both parties but not solo. I have traveled to WDW solo before. It was last year for my birthday and I had an amazing time!!!

I was apprehensive at first about going to WDW solo but I was fortunate enough to find some wonderful DISers who were going to be at WDW at the same time.

I spent some of the time on my own and had a wonderful time exploring WDW by myself. I never felt self conscience about being solo, not even when I ate alone.

The rest of the time I spent with my DIS peeps. It was really great to spend time at WDW with people who love it as much as I do!!!

If you have never attended a party, I think you should. They are lots of fun. And while I can't speak from experience, I would think doing a party solo would be lots of fun!

On a grown-up girls only trip, I spent a few mornings in the parks solo, and it was actually really nice. Chatted up several people in lines, etc. and never had to wait on others or have others wait on me because I wanted to see or do this or that. I don't think I could do an entire trip solo, but that's what your fellow DISers are for. ;)

I think you'll be fine doing the parties solo. There are several people who are walking around by themselves whether solo-tripping or just waiting for their group, and I'd never think "Oh, they must be here alone." No one really stands out at WDW (well, SOME people do, but you get my drift). Have fun and enjoy!!

Ok, now I'm curious as to how I should go about planning this. I leave on Monday for the current trip. I've been looking at room rates for December and they don't look bad. Should I wait till I arrive and see if there's a bounceback offer for December, or should I start making reservations before I go? :confused3

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Unless you have a time sensitive PIN, I'd wait. Not too much should happen between now and the end of your trip.

Geez call me a slacker...

Birthdays all (finally) updated!

JamieLynn: You should go! Don't worry about being by yourself. You will have a blast, and if it's during December there will be others in the parks also going solo (hence the thread).

Zoidberg: I maintain that ADRs as a group might be fun and maybe one of the things we try to organize as a meet. Agreed, though, we're all still planning.

Wasre: You know I think you should come in December. ;)

TO THE WHOLE GROUP: Did anyone like the ideas of reserving a private Illuminations viewing area, or a fireworks cruise, or a big dining ressie as a group, or anything that might cost some money up front? Or do we want to keep things more casual, in general?

I'm really fine with either - I was just curious as to what, if anything, I should bother looking into.

:grouphug:

Any ladies who want to hangout in December during the first 2 weeks feel free to get ahold of me I have alot of ideas that I am thinking about and want to have other singles mainly ladies join me for good times.

Ok... Slacker. You think I should be there in December? Uhhhh, when did we talk about that? :rolleyes1 <duck> Yes, yes. I know.... :thumbsup2 I'll look at possible bounceback options next week.

I think a group Fireworks cruise could be a lot of fun. An ADR for the group sounds good too. If people are willing, I'd love to meet other DISers while there. Any idea the cost difference between a Fireworks Cruise and a Private Illuminations viewing area?

I am handing over the planning keys to Oregongirl if your a single female then pm me if you want to share a meal or meetup .

Mike - Didn't see your last post until now. You don't have the hand the keys over, per se. I am happy to help and/or to have help in planning. :)

Speaking of, are there any new peoples that are going in December and want to be added to the google calendar or join the thread?

I think an Illuminations cruise seems like something to try for since a number of people have expressed an interest, but its too early to try and book yet.

To keep the thread alive - I have some questions that ya'll can chime in with an answer on:

1) How are you handling flights and where are you finding good deals? Through the airline websites? Expedia? Travelocity? CheapFlights? Travel Agent?

2) Would you prefer a meet-up activity to be based on the number of 'registered' google calendar peoples (i.e. the more the merrier), or would you prefer an activity be on a specific day (i.e. Friday night, Tuesday afternoon, etc).

3) Would you prefer an organized, food related meet-up that requires ressies, or a loose, 'we meet here and go on rides as a group' type meet-up?

1) I've just started looking at flights. For me personally it's looking easier and slightly cheaper if I do 2 one-way tickets. I've looked through Expedia and a couple of direct airline sites. Expedia seems to have more options available than either Delta or American directly. (I also have a way to earn some cash back by purchasing through Expedia, Priceline, Travelocity and Hotwire.)

2) I'd definitely be up for a 'the more the merrier' type get together. I think that it will be easier to plan either a get together on a specific day as the date gets closer and we see how many might be joining up.

3) A ressie for something like the Biergarten in Epcot might be fun, but again I think it will depend on how many people are planning to be there and how many would like to do something of that nature. I'd definitely love to see a huge group of us get together for at least rides where we take over a big section of a ride at the same time. "How many in your party?" "Uhhhh, 18?" ;) I don't really see why we couldn't do both for those interested. :thumbsup2 Of course we can't make any ADRs until early June, so we still have a little time before that window opens.
