Christmas 2006 Car Rates at Thrifty! Get 'Em While They're LOW!!

I just checked Thrifty for my annual Christmas/New Years trip. They only have availability through 12/31 but rates are really, really good now. I booked through the 31st and will keep an eye on when January's rates open up.

12/23 - 12/30
Intermediate $122 base, $164 all taxes
Full Size $131 base, $174 all taxes
SUV $167 base, $216 all taxes
Minivan $242 base, $304 all taxes

BTW, I have rented from Thrifty 3-4 times now. The counter staff is great (not pushy), the cars are nice and the shuttle comes quickly. I would not hesitate to rent from them again.

Responding to my own thread ...

I am not a patient person and the January 2007 dates had not opened up yet. So ... I called Thrifty and asked them to extend my reservation to 1/6/07 and they did! The agent did an override on the rate because it went up in January, but I still got the $131 rate. $345 complete for 2 weeks over Christmas and New Years in a Full Size is not shabby!

Car Class: Dodge Magnum, Taurus or similar
Rate: 2 weeks @ $131.69/week with Unlimited Miles
Total Base Rate (USD): $263.38
Rental Time Charge $263.38
Airport Access Fee (9.8%) $26.46
State Surcharge ($2.03 per day) $28.42

Thanks for the info. We are also staying until Jan 6 (Dec 16-Jan 6) and I am having a hard time finding an inexpensive rate.
I will book online with thrifty and then call and see if they will also extend my rate.

I just made a ressie with thrifty (on line) for a mid size ($122/wk) for 3 weeks (Dec 16 - Jan 6). Including taxes/fees the rate is $488 for the three weeks. Not a fabulous rate (Last time with Thrifty I paid $79 per week plus fees), but still ok.

You're welcome! I also got the $79 rate over Christmas/NYE 2004. I was even upgraded to a Taurus for that rate. It rocked! But ... $122 is a good rate anytime and a great rate for Christmas. It'll be up to $200-$300 per week soon enough !

When you got them to extend to January 07, did you reserve online and then call or just call. I just did an online ressie for 12/25-31 but I really need to return the car on 1/1. The rate for the minian was $242 for the week, a really good rate for Minivan. I prefer a differnt car since I drive mini van at home but in-laws live in FL and this is the easiest way for us all to get around.

I made the reservation for 1 week (returning on 12/30) online and then called and asked them to extend it.

Update:

I just got off the phone with Thrifty and I also extended to January 1, 07 without having an increase in the rate. The customer service rep. told me that the January availability came up online this morning as it is now 2/1.
