Day 4 - Castaway Cay

We woke early again to find the ship doing another giant U-Turn in the ocean to prepare for backing into the dock. During the backing I went topside to deck nine for some coffee and to watch the docking. It is pretty neat to watch. While on the stren I goty my first look at the island. Boy does it seem small when you can see the opposite shore.
After returning to the cabin to collect the family we opted skip breakfast. Hard to believe but every morning brought new adventures and today we were excited to get going. (Santa had dropped off new masks and snorkles for the kids) We followed the signs to go ashore and in no time again we were taking pictures of the giant christmas tree and presents along to dock. We got towels and headed to the tram ride. Weather sunny and getting warmer by the minute. We were one of the first to hit the beach and were lucky enough to score a hammoc by the waters edge. Oh yeah on the wat I stopped and rented fins and a mask for myself.
Everyone was smiling and very cheerful. First DS and I snorkled and after a while we finally found the hidden mickey way out there. We even took plenty of pics to prove it. Back on shore DW and DD played in the sand. By this time the beach was filling up quickly and some peoples attitudes were poor but oh well.
After a few hours and a few Conch Coolers(they were good!) we decided to explore a little. DD made it as far as the hair beadding. While waiting DS and I found the Heads Up Bar and a couple more Conch Coolers, the game area and the runway to Serenity Bay. Way to far to walk so we headed back.
DD still in the chair getting her hair done. DS and I hit the lunch line at Cookie's BBQ. The food wasn't bad but it still wasn't on the ship. I did find that at the Heads Up bar you could get some great pictures of the ship at dock.
A word of warning to all, don't let the kids get their entire head beadded. DD sat for TWO hours, patiently I might add, getting done. The final bill was 74 dollars. I wasn't to happy with that but DD thought her hair was cool so I let it go. Thats what vacation is for.
After that DW was ready to go back so we headed toward the ship stopping along the way for pictures. We opted to walk back and it wasn't to far.
Back on board the kids hit the Mickey pool and I filmed a little. They wanted to go down the slide so we hung out till dinner.
After showers and dressing we headed to dinner stopping in the atrium for character pics.
Dinner for our last night(sob) was at Animator's Palate. This was a neat experience. The show was nice but I felt as if the waiters were rushing like there was no tomorrow. Dinner again was excellent and as customary we tipped all our servers more than the reccomended since they did an outstanding job. Tonight we ate like four kings and probably started to look as big as four kings.
After dinner the kids again insisted on going to the clubs and they made us promise we wouldn't get them till closing.
Back in the room was a bottle of farewell champagne and DW and I did all the necessary packing. Once finished we just strolled the entire ship. From deck 10 foreward to deck 2 aft.
We snuck a peek at the Spa and it looked nice. Saw the ESPN club and even found the hidden decks. It was kind of funny because the entire mood of the ship was a sort of sadness. We enjoyed our last evening our way and it was great.
The only real disappointment was the onboard pictures. We threw away all but one of the pictures taken and the prices were outrageous. Glad I had a good memory card in the camera. We took 300 + pictures.
After getting the kids AT CLOSING and saying our good byes to the counselors we retired to the cabin and were greeted by a beautiful Swan towel animal that took up most of our bed. In his tail were chocolates and the bag tags arranged for decoration.
All packing was done, picking up and double checking for stuff I retired to my veranda for one, OK two Margaritas and a final Cubin Cigar. The salt air and breeze put me at ease and when done I hit the sack like a rock.
We did squeeze in shopping onboard throughout the trip and they weren't to bad. I even bought myself the new DCL wrist watch.
Tomorrow the wrap up and my thoughts.
