And yes I do understand what war means. I get it. I don't think blowing up civilians is a good thing obviously. But just think if someone from the Taliban had been interviewed and said "well, it doesn't bother me to kill people. Sure I get a little nervous but then you just do it". And yes, I realize he was talking about the enemy, but it sounds callous.
I love my country, but I also believe that I don't have to overlook its faults either. And I think one of our biggest faults is that we have this view that whatever "we" do is right and whatever "they" do is wrong. I would be naive to think that we are always right in everything we do.
Wonderful post, and unlike many things these days......It was actually objective. The world is full of people that blindly follow others and seem to not be able to think for themselves. They also defend anything that they love even when certain things are clearly indefensible. There are bad teachers, cops, priests, and military servicemen. I'm not saying that this man was a bad person, but he obviously made bad choices after he came home. And his death does not erase that. Maybe we can learn from it by illuminating those mistakes and not ignoring them. And for the record, I am the son, husband, and best friend of ex military service people. I am also the uncle of a current service person. I love my country and our military, but that love does not impair my judgement.
