"Chores" Question

4 is a great age to start. My kids did a lot of emptying trash in the bathrooms, sorting laundry, and sweeping the kitchen at this age. They also dusted base boards, wiped down the table after they ate and put their own dishes in the sink. It is great that you are trying to teach your child responsibility early!

I am not implying that at age 4 she shouldn't have to clean up for herself or help pick up and do simple things around the house.... I just dont know that rewarding her with money to spend at Disney World is a concept that a four year old can understand? To be honest I dont think i would want my daughter to think that when she does "chores" or cleans up or anything else that i have her help me do (put clothes away, bring me things, help clean toys or spills on the floor.... etc) that she should recieve a "reward." I believe that its better to teach her to do these things, well..... just because they need to be done!!!!

Sounds good to me. All of my kids have chores to do and they do it because it is their house to live in too and we all help out and we all reap the rewards of having everything done. My kids have learned how to manage their money from what they get on birthday's and such. They will learn more when they get a real job. Until then, I provide them with spending money on vacation if we have it and doing chores are just a part of life. When they have their own house, they won't get paid to do them.

OP - helping to clear some of the things on the table, put silverware in the dishwasher (if you have one) or put it away after it is clean is an easy one. Making sure there is toilet paper in the bathrooms, feeding the dogs when you tell her to, stuff like that is good for her to learn now.

She should not be rewarded for stuff she has to do to live life, putting on PJ's, brushing teeth, and cleaning up her own toys are just something she has to do no matter what. Non-negotiable.
