Choosing a Roommate

Hey y'all!

So this is my second program, and I found someone who I want to room with. We arrive the same day, but when I logged on to request her as my roommate, it told me we have different departure dates and can't room together because of it.

Last time, I know Advantage and regular season participants roomed together. I lived with a group of Asians who didn't even have either of the same seasons because they were ICPs. Obviously this doesn't really matter, and it's just a formality.

Does anyone know if they will let us room together if we line up together at check-in, even if the online system doesn't let us?

I've emailed Housing already and waiting on a response, just wanted to know if anyone has any experience with this or has lived with people with different departure dates as well.

So I have an update with the email response from housing...

They told me the "Roommate Matching System" will only allow us to room together with the same departure dates. So it sounds like if we get there on check in day and tell them then, we can still room together.

You may want to email them again and clarify your question on the departure date discrepancy before you get your hopes up and specifically cite arriving and checking in together.

My guess is that they would want an apartment to empty at the same time so they can prep it for the next occupants and limit the number of people they would have to move to another apartment to consolidate it.

Ok so i have a question about the "Roommate Matching" on the DCP website... i was looking into doing this but then i wasnt sure if once i am assigned a "match" if I'm able to say that i do or don't want this person as my roommate? Or is it like set in stone that once i go through the process of getting into the roommate matching that im stuck with that person? I'm just worried about clashing personalities/beliefs and want the option to switch if need be.

Hey! It's not set in stone until you get there, and even then, I think there's a period of time where you can switch. After that, it's a moving fee of like $50 or something around that.

Once you get matched with someone, it will give you their email and I think full name as well, so you can contact them through email or search them on Facebook. Last time around, I went through like 3 or 4 different random roommate assignments before finally deciding to room with my best friend from home. We'd been trying to avoid doing that, but it was the best decision.

So yeah, you can just as easily opt out of your randomly assigned roommates once you get them. They'll know you "ditched" them though, because they'll have gotten the email notifying them. It's not really a big deal, unless you have an awkward in-person interaction when you get there, which is a rarity. haha.
