After hearing so many good reviews about the CR, I went ahead and booked a dinner reservation for our Sept. vacation:cool1: .

The one thng I am really looking forward to is eating the Chocolate wave. After looking at the dinner menu on allears, I noticed that it was made with Grand Marnier.... How strong is the taste in this dessert? I am NOT a fan of alcohol in my food so I was wondering if this dessert tasted ALOT like Grand marnier. Let's hope not.

We had the cheddar soup at LC and the chocolate whiskey cake also and I was releived to find out that although there was alcohol in these, it did not taste at all.....

Can any experts help me out?

I had the chocolate wave in December...I didn't really notice the Grand Marnier taste at all. I thought the dessert was very yummy.:)

Soo looking forward to this! Coral Reef will be our first TS on Aug 31...Epcot has EMH that night. While there are so many choices at Epcot, I couldnt think of another place that will have then DD14mths old more entertained!!

I'm also looking forward to Coral Reef our first TS in September. From what I've read the Grand Marnier is not strong in the cake portion of the chocolate wave. But since they've replaced the ice cream  with cherries, you should know that the cherries are soaked in liquor, and from what I've heard, very strong. So if they don't come to their senses and bring back the ice cream, I'd steer clear of trying the cherries!

No Ice Cream??????????????? C'mon, how much can a scoop of ice cream cost??? I cant eat chocolate cake w/o ice cream:( lol

Yes you'll know it's there. I was there last month and it has a slight kick or maybe I just got a cherries with my bite. But the newest desert item on the CR menu is the Jack Daniels' Chocolate Mousse. YUM. Let me say, when you get to the JD layer, you'll know it. I loved it and we ate there a second night with friends and got it again. The server could not believe that out of the four of us, no one ordered the chocolate wave. We had 4 chocolate mousses. It was nice having something new to order.

But as mentioned regarding the Whiskey Cake, I've never tasted anything extra there. Just tasted like chocolate cake to me.

My family and I just ate at the Coral Reef this past Saturday, and I ordered the Chocolate Wave for dessert. It was very tasty, and the Grand Mariner taste didn't seem very strong to me. I could tell it was there but it wasn't overpowering.

I was bummed that they no longer serve it with vanilla ice cream, too...that would have made it taste much better!

My wife ordered the Chocolate Mousse, and the Jack Daniels layer was VERY strong...so you'll probably want to avoid that dessert!

Enjoy! :)

Has anyone asked to still get the chocolate wave with ice cream? I had it in December and I was my favorite dessert of the trip!

I cannot stand cherries and the cake really needs ice cream!

Grand Marnier is an Orange Liquor, it will probably add a hint of Orange flavor if at all. I plan to try it when I go.

I had this for dessert when we dined at Coral Reef in October. Before going, I was concerned about this as well. I do NOT care for the taste of alcohol. Also, I was concerned about my 11yo DS who is a huge chocolate cake lover. I knew he'd pick this dessert and I didn't want there to be an alcohol taste. I inquired on these boards and was assured you couldn't taste it. And you coudn't! It just tasted like a VERY yummy, gooey chocolate cake! It was fantastic. I didn't taste any alcohol, definitely nothing orange-y. It was just wonderful. Would definitely get it again. Sorry to hear they no longer serve it with the ice cream though. It was white chocolate-flavored and sooooo good. Wouldn't like it so much with alcohol-tasting cherries. Yuck!

Hope you have it and LOVE it! Have fun!

I am sure you could order a scoop of icecream to go with it. We did this at Kona when we ordered their lava cake. $1.95 for the scoop, plus 18% tip. It was worth every cent since all that chocolate needed some icecream!
The little tablespoon of icecream they used to serve with the Wave was hardly worth the trouble.
