Is it really as simple as dipping the strawberries in melted chocolate (say c. chips) and then chilling? Am I supposed to add anything to the chocolate?

They are easy to make...just make sure the strawberries are dry.

I rinse mine then dry them on paper towel.

I line a tray with parchment paper and melt my chocolate in a bowl in the microwave...too lazy to do it with a double boiler.
Just do it in short bursts in the microwave. Twenty seconds, then stir, twenty seconds then stir until melted.

Dip the strawberries in the chocolate and sit them on the tray to set without touching each other. Put them in the fridge when done.

I use good quality chocolate (Lindt dark or Cadbury milk) as they melt really smoothly. Choc chips are okay but not the best.

It is simple, but you need to make sure that the strawberries are dry before you dip them in the chocolate. If you want to make tuxedo strawberries, dip them in white chocolate first. Dip them straight down into the chocolate. Allow the excess chocolate to drip off before you lay them down. Put them in the refrigerator for a few minutes to set. Then, dip them in the milk chocolate by dipping each side at an angle. This allows you to see the little triangle of white at the top. Again, allow the excess to drip off each side as you dip them. Put them back in the fridge to set up. To make the dark chocolate tie an buttons, use a toothpick.

Good luck! It's actually a lot of fun!

Thanks. I know it sounded like stupid question, but I keep finding recipies that say to add shortening to the chocolate when melting. I think "Huh?"

I am hosting a cookie decorating party for DD(3) and a few of her friends. Since adults (Mommies) will be in tow, I am having some snack/finger foods to offset the sugar high from cookie decorating, as well as feeding the Mommies with some yummy food. I want to have a sweet treat, so hence the chocolate dipped strawberries.

It also works better if the strawberies aren't really cold before you dip them.

It usually says to add shortening to chocolate chips, I think because the ingredients make them more solid so the shortening loosens it up a bit, if that makes sense. My Mom always added parafin wax, which I found out was to make them shinier. I quit doing it that way because sometimes it makes the chocolate taste funny.

With the leftover chocolate I always dip whatever we have around the house like nilla wafers, apricots, pretzels or marshmallows. Then with the little bit left in the bottom of the bowl I add nuts and stir it up and place spoonfuls on the waxed paper. I don't like to waste even a little bit of the yummy chocolate

Have fun!

Just letting you know you are free to ship the "rejects" my way, I will provide my address via PM...:rotfl::woohoo:;)

I have a chocolate melter and I buy the chocolate discs to melt them in there. I agree with suggestions on not having the strawberries too cold.

my husband makes his with choc and shortening (crisco) they are yum
